Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

I do hope that your family have now settled into the routine of school and that the children are enjoying being back with their friends.  I have managed to catch up with several parents this week, either in the mornings or after school, or whilst visiting the various parent information evenings and I look forward to meeting our new parents next week.  Monday evening will be an opportunity for all our new families from Reception to J6 to meet the school staff and learn a little more about the school and the year ahead.

Whilst today was tinged with sadness when I attended Mary O’Farrell’s funeral, I also had chance to reflect on what a wonderful, full and holy life she enjoyed and understand how much she meant to so many people.  I am sure that Crackley Hall staff, parents and pupils both past and present will have their own special memories of Mary.  There will be a non-uniform day held later this term to raise money for Myton Hospice and I am also going to arrange for an additional wooden bench in our Prayer Garden in memory of Mary.  Should you wish to make a separate donation to the hospice, please use the following link www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Mary-O-Farrell

Before I left school for Mary’s service this morning I was impressed by the number of awards and achievements that were accumulated by the children during the summer holiday.    Congratulations to all of our Stars of the Week: Beatrice, Henry, Arthur, Amy, Lawson, Sebastian, Scarlett, Aaron, George, all of J4J, Matilda, Annabel, Carys, Martha, Caitlin.

I would like to congratulate Conor on his fantastic singing performance at this morning’s assembly – a super way to start the school year.  Although there have not been many sports fixtures as yet, preparations and training sessions are taking place so that our teams are ready and raring to go when the time calls.

My thanks are extended to Mrs Jackson-Mayne for co-ordinating the Service of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for J5 and J6 which took place this week.  This was hosted by Archbishop Bernard Longley from his Chapel in Birmingham and was streamed live to all schools across the Diocese of Birmingham.  This was the first time that our students have had this opportunity to join a live sermon over the internet.

I am pleased to let you all know that Crackley Hall now has a defibrillator located in school.  This is due to the generosity of our hard working PTA.  The defibrillator can be used by anyone, no training needed and has been registered with the ambulance service should they need to direct a member of the public to the facility.  Please try and support our PTA through the various events that they meticulously plan; everything they do benefits your children and the school.  The AGM takes place next Wednesday at 7.00 pm the School Hall and this would be a marvellous opportunity for you to meet the members.

I would also welcome many new faces on the committee to help those who already do so much – not all roles require a lot of work and most require no form of public speaking, etc.

I know that some parents have enquired about the holiday club facility available at Crackley Hall and I can confirm that during the October half term, this will be available for both weeks.  Details on how to book will be released by the end of next week.  It is hoped to be able to extend this provision to include the Christmas Inset days, February half term,  two weeks at Easter and all of July should there be sufficient demand.

As we start a new school year, it can take a few weeks for children, parents and staff to become used to routines and expectations, especially if you are new.  Please do feel that you can contact a member of the friendly and helpful office team or your child’s class teacher for almost anything.  They would be delighted to help you and, if unable, will put you in contact with the right person.  I find that by going straight to the source of information, or where you feel that the information should be coming from, you will receive the answer you need or help us to provide a better solution in the future.  We will always strive to continue to provide the highest level of service and care for every child and, in this, I encourage teamwork and ongoing dialogue between home and school.

Thank you for all the lovely chats and good humour over the past week; thank you for helping us in doing the best we can.

I hope that you all have a restful and happy weekend.

God bless,

Robert Duigan

Crackley Joins Online Eucharistic Adoration

This week through the wonders of modern technology the Service of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, hosted by Archbishop Bernard from his Chapel, was streamed live to all schools across the Diocese of Birmingham.

Crackley's Year 5 and 6 children welcomed Father David and joined this live sermon over the internet. For the first time, this gave pupils and staff the opportunity to participate in prayer, hymn and readings with others and to think of the great gift Jesus gave to us.

Many thanks to Mr. Ostrowski, Crackley's most attentive technical support operative, for his assistance in connecting Crackley to this special event.

First Stay 'n' Play Session Kicks Off A Fun-Filled Autumn Term

This Wednesday 12 September our Little Crackers Nursery was buzzing with excitement as Mrs. Gail ushered in our first Stay 'n' Play participants of the new academic year.

A prompt 10.00am start meant tiny hands could get amongst the various activities thoughtfully presented in different learning zones. No brick, block or brush was left untouched as our guests sought greater understanding through the medium of inventive, interactive play.

We had a great time at our first regular session and we're also so excited about our Little Crackers Stay 'n' Play schedule of visiting activities for the autumn term!

From drama and dance activities to hands on creative fun, and not to mention our fabulous Christmas party, there's guaranteed to be something everyone will enjoy so be sure to join us.

For our first visiting activity we welcome Drama Tots who will be taking our Stay 'n' Players on a special Dinosaur Adventure on Wednesday 26 September 2018.

Drama Tots are passionate that children learn through play. Children love the world of make-believe, it is a concept which comes instinctively to them. Drama Tots ignite a spark in young imaginations and explore themes using roleplay, music and movement plus a variety of props, puppets and instruments.

In addition to helping your child build foundations to be a sociable, confident and creative child, the most important message children and their carers can take from a Drama Tots session is to smile, laugh and have fun!

Our Stay 'n' Play sessions run every Wednesday during term-time from 10.00am to 11.30am and are just £2, including refreshments. All are welcome, so why not bring a friend!

For more information, please visit: www.littlecrackers.co.uk/stay-n-play and check out the list of activities here

We look forward to seeing you.

Foundation News: Countdown To Princethorpe College Entrance Exams Begins

With a little over eight weeks to go, the countdown to Princethorpe's Entrance Exams for admission in September 2019 has begun. This year the exams for Year 7 to 10 entry will take place on Saturday 10 November from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

The College's friendly Admissions Team has been kept busy over the summer accepting registrations from prospective parents.  The deadline for registrations is ideally Friday 5 October, to enable the seeking of references from junior schools. Junior 6 parents wishing their children to sit the exams do need to complete a registration form and submit it with the accompanying registration fee by this date.

There are plenty of opportunities for prospective pupils and their parents to visit the College before the Entrance Exams, including the College's Open Morning on Thursday 27 September from 10.30am to 12.30pm, when pupil tour guides will be available to show visitors around the school.

Comments Melanie Butler, Assistant Head, Marketing, Admissions and Communications, "Parents and pupils still have plenty of time to prepare and opportunities to visit the College in the run up to the exams.  The results will be out at the end of November, making for an exam-free Christmas holiday, which has got to be good news."

For more information on the admissions process click here to visit the Admissions Update newsletter.

If you have any queries relating to admissions please feel free to email the Registrars at admissions@princethorpe.co.uk or call them on 01926 634201.

"Princethorpe College - What's It All About?" That’s the question followers of the College on social media have been seeing every day over the course of the last week.

The film, produced by the Foundation Marketing Team and award-winning Affixxius Films, was shot over the Lent and Trinity Terms and aims to communicate the all-embracing nature of Princethorpe, the wealth of opportunities on offer and the individuals who make up our community. It also celebrates the College's beautiful setting.

The launch has been timed to coincide with the College's admissions for 2019 and the lead up to entrance exams in November.

Nursery News

This week we have continued with our theme, ‘all about me’.  If you get chance, please have a look at our self-portraits on display in the corridor near the main office, they are fabulous!  We used the mirror to look at our eyes, noses and mouths, and pulled funny faces too, before painting what we saw.  As we move into next week we continue with this theme as we begin to talk more about the important people in our lives, and how we are related to them – we have already started to look at some photos and hear about cousins, uncles, aunts and grandparents, as well as brothers, sisters and mums and dads.  One a different note, thank you very much for sending in wellies, we had a ‘big welly check’ on Wednesday morning when the rain came to play, and it was good to be able to splash in the puddles.  As you can imagine, we have a lot of little people dealing with lots of little shoes so having names in things really helps, but it was wonderful to see how many of our children were able to manage their shoes and wellies themselves, well done!

Have a great weekend, hopefully enjoying a bit more late summer sun, and if you are out and about please bring in some of the bits and bobs that you find for our Autumn collections – we love to chat about what we find.

Crackley Hall Christmas Fayre - Save The Date

Saturday 1 December 1.00pm - 4.00pm

Is it too early to be thinking about Christmas yet? Some might say yes, but please save the date as we're sure it will come round quickly!

Also, if anybody works for a company that offers matched funding we would love to hear from you. If you work for an organisation that has a match funding policy, any money you raise could be matched by your employer. Companies may match the fundraising total for an event, or for the stall that their employee is working on. Usually, the employee will need to supply them with a letter from the PTA detailing the date and nature of the event, together with the total raised. We would be grateful if you could see if your employer has a match funding scheme, or if they are willing to match fund any of our events or charity contributions. Please email ptachair@crackleyhall.co.uk if you might be able to help.

Thank you for your support.
