Welcome to The Chronicle, Crackley Hall's electronic newsletter.

Crackley Hall was delighted to be awarded a Silver certificate by Kenilworth in Bloom in a presentation last Friday evening. Last Friday was also a good day for our U10 Girls Football team, they finished second in the ISA Midlands Tournament.

It was wonderful to celebrate Harvest Mass on Tuesday, thank you to Junior 5S who led the service so beautifully.

Do read on to see what else has been happening in school this week.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

I trust that, at the end of another busy week, everyone is eagerly anticipating the weekend ahead. According to the Met Office, we can expect lovely, dry weather throughout the country, with temperatures even surpassing those in Ibiza! This presents us with the opportunities to enjoy outdoor pursuits, should you be inclined, or gather with friends or family where possible, perhaps around the BBQ?

Kenilworth in Bloom judges visited our school in July and were impressed with various exhibits such as the Nursery Garden, the Sunflower Garden of Junior 4 and Junior 2's vegetable garden. They acknowledged the hard work done at the Forest School and were amazed by the students' passion, knowledge, and care towards their environment. Our school gardens were also praised for their ability to provide for wildlife. We were thrilled to receive the silver award at the awards ceremony, and our Head Boy and Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Girl, and Junior 6 Heads of Student Council, along with Mrs Burley, were all proud to accept it on behalf of the school community. I appreciate the support of Mrs Burley and the families who attended the event. Let's keep displaying our love for the environment and motivating others to do the same.

Soren, Darcy, and Lexi-Jean fared very well at the ISA National Indoor Ski Championships in Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre, last week. Their confidence and determination on the slopes were truly inspiring. Our school provides various competitive sporting opportunities, and skiing is one of them. Mr Stedeford is keen to find out if other passionate skiers would like to participate in this competition next year.

The upcoming parent consultation evenings are just around the corner and will be held on Tuesday 17 and Thursday 19 October. You will receive a direct link to the online booking system (this evening), which will allow you to reserve your time slot. These meetings serve as a valuable opportunity for parents to discuss their child's progress in their new class, near the start of the academic year. For Junior 6 students, the emphasis will be on their mathematics and English coursework as they prepare for entrance exams. This presents an excellent chance for parents to engage in their child's education, and I encourage you to take advantage of it. For the rest of the school, a large part of the focus will be on pastoral matters, approach to school life, involvement and participation in school and general enthusiasm and attitude. Getting these aspects right will feed into all-round success.

Our Head Boy and Girl Blythe and Evie and their Deputies, Arthur, and Beatrice and RE and Ethos captains, Elsie W-P and Josie-Jean beamed with pride at their collaboration meeting with our Foundation Senior School, Princethorpe College Prefects Chloe, Zara and Grace.  I was immensely proud to hear about their creative ideas and exciting projects for the coming year.

The school photographers will be visiting us on Tuesday 10 October to capture class, individual, and siblings' photos. As such, I kindly request that you ensure your child comes to school dressed in their winter uniform, as this will help create a uniform and smart look in the photos. I look forward to seeing lasting memories of your child's time with us captured on camera.

Father Kevin will be in school on Thursday morning to lead the Rosary Assembly. During the assembly, Father Kevin will be sharing his knowledge and insights regarding the significance of the Rosary, providing the pupils with an opportunity to further enrich their spiritual understanding. Pupils who have a rosary are welcome to bring their own rosaries to this momentous assembly.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your understanding and cooperation in following procedures for collection/drop off and parking. Health and safety measures always need to be uppermost in our procedures, including at drop-off and collection times. Your adherence to these guidelines has also helped us to start building stronger relationships with our neighbours.

I feel a warm sense of joy and appreciation when I see the kindness of those who have contributed to our Food Bank. This really shows the empathy and generosity of our school community, and I am most grateful to Mrs Forino, our RE coordinator, for co-ordinating this outreach initiative at school. During our Harvest Mass, Father Kevin emphasized the significance of showing love and compassion to others, and of looking at the world with a positive perspective. As we head into the winter season, many families may encounter significant challenges in providing food and warmth for their loved ones. I want to express my sincerest gratitude to everyone who participated in the collection. Every single donation is genuinely appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week: Michael and Matilda – Nursery; Elliot and Henry – Rec; Imogen and Teddy - J1; Nirvair and Theoharis - J2; Grace and Xanthe - J3; Hector and Archie - J4; Diya and Theo - J5; Hollie and Adreena - J6. As always, I appreciate all the hard work invested by our children each day and it is a privilege to celebrate and acknowledge this whenever possible.  Well done to all of our stars of the week and to those who were awarded Da Vinci’s for their superb efforts in various subjects. Congratulations to the pupils who have excelled outside of school, in various pursuits, and who were recognised at today’s assembly. Our inter-house music competition has progressed through the first round – well done to all pupils who entered. We were treated to a wonderful music presentation, with a powerful earth care message, by both Junior 5 classes. I was so pleased to see many pupils taking themselves outside of their comfort zones as they were all involved in the performance. Henry, in Junior 4, played the piano exceptionally well – the result of his hard work and talent – excellent, Henry! Our sports teams all fared very well over the past week; well done to everyone.

I hope that you are able to enjoy some relaxation time this weekend; there is much sport to watch, including the rugby and cricket world cups and further ‘interesting’ football. Have a lovely weekend with your families.

God bless
Rob Duigan

Crackley Hall Awarded A Silver Certificate By Kenilworth In Bloom

Crackley Hall School is delighted to have been awarded a Silver certificate in this year’s Kenilworth in Bloom competition.

Judges from the annual gardening competition visited the school back in July to inspect the green-fingered pupils' gardening efforts and on Friday 29 September the school attended a presentation evening at Kenilworth Sports and Social Club to receive their award.

Crackley Hall was pleased to take part in the school’s category of this year’s competition with children from across the school working on gardening projects. The four judges who visited the school were impressed by the Nursery garden, with its beetroot, carrots and variety of herbs, Junior 4's sunflower garden as well as Junior 2's vegetable gardens and of course the planting work that has taken place in Forest School.

The judges were also impressed by pupils’ knowledge and enthusiasm and the care that they showed for the environment and how the gardens at the school made provision for wildlife.

Along with Mrs Burley, the Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl and the Year 6 School Councillors all attended the presentation. Head Boy, Blythe, and Head Girl, Evie, spoke to the assembled audience to thank Kenilworth in Bloom for the award.

Mrs Burley was very proud, commenting, “The children were fabulous and incredible ambassadors for Crackley. A huge thank you to the parents for joining us too, it was a lovely evening. We won Silver, so second prize. It was the first time we have entered so we were thrilled and will be putting plans in place for how we can win Gold. We would like to extend our thanks to the volunteers at Kenilworth in Bloom for making us feel so welcome, we are looking forward to lots more collaborative projects together.”

Crackley And Princethorpe Prefects Get Collaborative

Prefects Chloe, Zara and Grace from our Foundation Senior School, Princethorpe College, visited Crackley Hall yesterday for a collaboration meeting. Our Head Boy and Girl, Blythe and Evie and their Deputies, Arthur and Beatrice and RE and Ethos captains, Elsie W-P and Josie-Jean, were part of the discussion, sharing creative ideas and planning exciting projects for the coming year and beyond.

Their aim is to strengthen links across the Foundation and we look forward to seeing their plans in action!

Thank You For Your Food Bank Donations

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the generous donations during this month of harvest for our local foodbank. We were delighted with the response and with the quantity of donations received. Warwick District Foodbank collected the donations today and our RE Captains and some of our school councillors were on hand to help load donations. Each month we will ask a different class to bring in donations so we can continue to support this important community endeavour throughout the year. Thank you again for your continued support.

Warwickshire Police Deliver Online Safety Session

PC Darren Lund visited Junior 6 on Tuesday 3 October to advise on the importance of Online Safety. Pupils became 'social network detectives' as they engaged in an exercise to spot good and bad behaviours online and assess potential risks. They also discussed the dangers of hackers and unauthorised access.

A huge thank you to Warwickshire Police for delivering the informative and engaging session for our young people.

School Council Meet For The First Time

Our School Council met for the first time today. They were very excited for the year ahead and started to formulate a plan of action.

As elected representatives for their classes our school councillors play an important role in promoting pupil voice. They help to make decisions about how the school is run and take on projects that support the children's learning and development, such as organising charity events, representing the school at outside events and ensuring the school is environmentally friendly. The School Council is one of many opportunities here at Crackley Hall for pupils to develop the skills and traits to become good leaders.

A Warm Welcome To Mrs Devine

We are delighted to welcome Jemma Devine to Crackley Hall School. Mrs Devine is joining the School Office team working on the front reception desk and will be a friendly first face for all our visitors to Crackley Hall.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

As part of our investigation into Book One of The Spiderwick Chronicles in English, the children have been creating their own faeries (magical creatures that you might find surrounding the Spiderwick Mansion). After two weeks of careful research and experimentation, the children chose their favorite creation to explore further. Using fine line pens and an ink wash, their work was transformed into the pages you might find in the ancient dusty tomb from the secret room of the Spiderwick Mansion! We’ve loved reading about the faeries Junior 6, well done!

Junior 5

Over the last few weeks, Junior 5L have been learning about our solar system and the planets that inhabit it. They have been researching two different theorists (Copernicus and Galileo), exploring day and night and creating unique mnemonics to help them remember the order of the planets. Junior 5L have been curious while investigating the different phases of the moon using biscuits as a resource!

Junior 4

This week in Junior 4 we have been carrying out investigations which involve how to change the pitch of a sound. We looked at various instruments that play a variety of notes and made some predictions. We then made our own panpipes and investigated how the pitch of the sound changed as we blew across different length pipes. We came to the conclusion that the smaller the pipe, the higher the pitch of the sound. The longer the pipe, the lower the pitch of the sound. What an interesting outcome!

Junior 3

As part of our Science topic on nutrition and healthy eating, Junior 3 have been investigating how much sugar is in different drinks. We have been working like super scientists to make predictions, ask questions and learn how to read nutrition labels before finally interpreting our findings. Our investigation confirmed some things we already knew, but it also threw up some surprises. Such as the amount of sugar contained in apple juice and the fact that water contains no sugar at all! We recorded our results neatly in a table and had a go at creating a bar chart. Keen to display our findings and educate the rest of the school about our sugary discoveries, we weighed out the amount of sugar 350mls of each drink would contain and created a display for all to see.

Junior 2

It has been a fun-filled week in Junior 2 again. In Maths, we have focused on number bonds from 10-100, related facts and fact families. In English, we thought about what kind of dragon lies inside of us. Some examples are ‘Inside of me is an angry dragon who stomps from room to room; inside of me is a tired dragon who curls up asleep in the corner.’ Our Science lessons are taking off with great imagination and environmental awareness. We have discussed materials around us and been on a material investigation tour around the school. We are keen to find out the properties of materials, what things come from and learn how they are used. Is it a suitable material for the right job? We are all looking forward to our trip to Warwick Castle next week to support our work in History.

Junior 1

Junior 1 have loved their Maths lessons this week as they have begun to explore the concept of splitting amounts into two. Everyone loved using the counters and the ‘Part Whole’ boards to find the whole or two parts of the numbers. There was lots of investigating and discussions as everyone shared how the different amounts could be split in a variety of ways. This work then led on to addition and how two numbers are combined by using the addition symbol. Our Science lessons were equally practical as we investigated our sense of touch with the feely bag to describe whether items were smooth, bumpy, rough or spiky. In Geography, we learnt about the different compass points and placed animals correctly on the grid according to north, south, east and west. For History, we have begun to look at the Victorians by learning about their houses and comparing them to houses of today.

Reception

This week in Reception we have been sorting in Maths! We have chosen our own rules for sorting in the classroom and the children have worked together to organise and differentiate between lots of different maths equipment. We have also been out into the outdoors, collecting autumnal objects and sorting them too! We enjoyed our Harvest Mass on Tuesday and the children sang at the top of their voices!

Nursery

This week we have started thinking about Autumn and Harvest. We have enjoyed reading the story of the Little Red Hen, which inspired us to make some bread. The children kneaded the dough and made snips in it to create their rolls into little hedgehogs.

In Dormice, we have been using our fine motor skills for colourful bead threading and Miss Mary helped us bake biscuits.

Outside, the Dingle Dangle Scarecrow came to Little Crackers. We sang the scarecrow song and made scarecrows with spare clothes. We stuffed our scarecrows with lovely soft barley straw after having felt it, smelt it, rustled it and scrunched it.

Harvest Mass

Father Kevin visited the school on Tuesday to celebrate mass and the harvesting of food around the world. Led by Junior 5S, we were asked to think about the people who are involved in planting, harvesting, and preparing the food we eat and the importance of sharing our love and kindness with everyone. Fr Kevin talked about a selection of vegetables he had brought in and compared the eyes of a potato, the heart of a cabbage, the ears of wheat and the hands of a banana to how we should look at our world with a good heart, listening to those around us and helping each other with our hands.  We were also reminded that it was the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on the 4 October.

Monday Mission Assembly

Mr Duigan led the Monday Mission Assembly and talked about Saint Therese of Lisieux and how little acts of kindness can make a huge difference to others. Saint Therese wanted us to do little things with love and that we shouldn't think we are more important than anyone else. Mr Duigan explained that Saint Therese believed  that God does not look so much on the greatness of our actions, nor even at their difficulty, but at the love with which we do them. Saint Therese showed us all how we can change the world with kindness - with kind hands, kind hearts and a kind mouth. What can we do this week to demonstrate our kindness to others?

Crackley Enjoys Exciting ISA Indoor Ski Championships

Many congratulations to our Crackley Hall ski team who put in super performances on Monday 25 September, at the ISA National Indoor Ski Championships at Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre.

Our holiday skiers, Soren, Darcey and Lexi-Jean all did brilliantly, flying down the slopes like professional racers, showing amazing confidence and determination and finishing 10th, 13th and 24th respectively in their classes.

We were delighted to hear that they all had a great time, huge thanks to the parents, Mrs Wilcox-Smith, Mrs Bowley and Mrs Ellis for their support – it was a fantastic experience for the children.

We are thrilled to have skiing as one of the many competitive sporting opportunities available to pupils in Key Stage 2. Do let Mr Stedeford know if there are any other keen skiers who would like to take part in this competition next year.

U10 Girls Are Runners Up In ISA Midlands Tournamanet

Last Friday 29 September, Crackley took a team of 11 Junior 5 girls to Dixie Grammar to play in the Midlands ISA Football Tournament. In a tough schedule, the girls faced 10 quick-fire games but played superbly not conceding a single goal and remaining unbeaten all day.

The whole team showed exemplary determination and a high level of skill and finished just one point off the top of the table as tournament runners-up.

A really fantastic effort, a huge well done to them all.

Playing for Crackley Hall were:

Grace, Mahnoor, Jessie, Gwen, Scarlett, Charlotte, Harriet, Evie, Eleanor, Ella and Amelia

Clubs

Lego Club

Have you ever wished you could live in your own castle? Well this week in Lego Club we made several castle residences. We had towers galore and spectacular dragons flying a little too close for comfort as they battled on dry land with the knights who were trying to guard their chateaus. Drawbridges were raised for added protection and moats were widened to stop any fearsome villains venturing inside. Looking for somewhere to relax and chill, we even made a treehouse for our beloved animals to take in the tranquillity of their surroundings without any dragon interruptions….ahh bliss!

PTA Opportunities

We have lots of opportunities for roles both on and off the core committee, all of which play a part in shaping the extra experiences we can offer our children, often the fun ones! In the last year it has been the PTA that has organised popular events such as the Colour Run, Christmas and Summer Fairs and the Christmas pantomime.

We support a whole host of other activities too, such as Fairtrade Fortnight, One World Week, the Inter School Cross Country Championships and many other sporting and social activities.

Joining meetings and participating is a great way to enhance the experience for your child and for you too! There are lots of ad-hoc ways to help without huge ongoing commitment. Please do join the meeting and/or get in touch.

Pre-loved Uniform

The weather is slightly chiller now and we have winter uniform in stock. We will continue to sell jumpers, coats and winter pinafores for the next few weeks. If you have any orders you would like to place, please email uniform@pta.crackleyhall.co.uk. Please remember that we are volunteer run and aim to get back to you within seven days. We are continually grateful for donations, and these can be dropped into the box labelled ‘PTA uniform’, located in the front porch of the school. A huge thank you for your support; we couldn’t run the second hand shop without your generous donations.

Next PTA Meeting

Our next PTA meeting will be held at 4.30pm in the school hall on Thursday 9 November. With advance notice to the Chair, complimentary aftercare for a parent wishing to attend will kindly be provided by the school. Contact us via the office or on mariagordonpta@gmail.com

School Drop Off And Collection Arrangements

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally.

When collecting in the evening, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If you are unsure or wish to clarify any points, please call the School Office.
