Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

The end of the half term is upon already and the past seven weeks have been a whirlwind of hard work, dedication, lots of co-curricular activities and some fun in between. As we approach the well-deserved half-term break, let us take a moment to reflect on the many achievements, be thankful for all the benefits and look to recharge our batteries.

The joy and enthusiasm of our Nursery children as they carved their pumpkins this week served as a reminder of the magic of childhood and just enjoying the moment that you are in. We try to keep parents informed about their child's class activities on a regular basis. To achieve this, we capture class memories every week and share them with you via the Chronicle. This weekly update will give you a glimpse of all the exciting activities that our classes have been enjoying. I would encourage you to go through this and see for yourself the fun-filled learning environment that we have created for our pupils. I am also very grateful for the hard work put in by our staff to make learning a meaningful and exciting experience for our pupils.

With several exciting competitions on the horizon, the upcoming weeks provide a perfect chance to engage your children in fun activities indoors, especially with the weather forecast being less than ideal.

Congratulations to all the enthusiastic and talented pupils who participated in the recent House Art Competition, and congratulations to our well-deserved winners. We now look forward, in the coming weeks, to another House Art competition with the theme "GIFT", posted on SEESAW this Monday, October 23, and closing on December 15. Let's inspire and encourage each other to showcase our creativity and imagination. Best of luck to everyone who participates!

Every year, we have the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Catholic Independent Schools Conference Christmas card competition. This year's theme, 'Jesus - King of Kings', provides us with a chance to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Let us embrace our creativity and come up with unique designs that showcase our talent and love for the season. Remember, this competition is not just about winning, but also about participating and representing our school with pride. So, let's give it our all, and who knows, one of our card designs could be the one chosen to be sent out nationally. Also, our winning design will be used as this year’s school Christmas card. All entries will also earn points in the house competition. I cannot wait to see what amazing work you all come up with.

As the season of Advent, and then Christmas approaches, we are thrilled to participate in the St Nicholas Church Christmas Tree Festival by entering a tree that embodies the spirit of giving and compassion. With the proceeds going to Flourish, a Christian charity that supports young girls in need of building self-esteem and mental wellness, our efforts will make a positive difference in the Warwickshire community. This year, the Crackley Hall Christmas Tree will be adorned with unique, handcrafted ornaments fashioned by the pupils themselves. Our commitment to sustainability and preserving the environment has led us to use recycled materials for the decorations, and the theme of "Peace" will inspire all our creative entries. So, let's unleash our imagination and create something truly extraordinary. Remember, the deadline for submissions is Monday, November 20th, and additional information will be provided via Seesaw.

I would like to announce that we will be once again supporting the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox appeal this year. Let us come together to spread love and kindness by preparing a medium-sized shoebox filled with thoughtful gifts, wrapped and ready to be gifted. Remember, toothpaste and sweets are not permitted. For more information on suitable contents, please visit the Operation Christmas Child website at samaritans-purse.org.uk. Please return your beautifully decorated shoebox, along with a generous donation of £5 to the school by Friday, November 10th. Your contribution will help us continue to share God's love with our community and beyond. Thank you for supporting this most worthwhile charity at this time.

Your child's all-round development and success is a priority, and we believe in providing them with the best possible learning experience. However, we need your help to make that happen. By making sure your child is fully equipped with the necessary tools, you are supporting them to get the most from all their lessons and to, hopefully, reach their full potential.  Please take a moment to regularly replenish their named pencil cases, so they can start each day feeling confident and prepared to learn.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week: Nursery - Stephanie and Lyla; Rec – Emma and Charlotte; J1 – Isla and Sebastian; J2 – Henry and Jovan; J3 – Olivia and Ashleigh; J4 – Savannah and Eloise; J5 - Charlie and Grace; and J6 – Austin and Amy. They have all worked so hard and can be proud of their efforts. The music that touched the hearts of many this morning was beautifully performed by Mrs Lomas' cello group, Olivia H on the piano, and Oscar's beautiful singing.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the hardworking and outstanding staff and our wonderful parents for their overwhelming support this half term. I would like to give a special thank you to all our pupils who consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic, motivation, kindness and a sense of fun.

We have a lot more sport to watch this weekend, with the Rugby World Cup semi-finals taking place in Paris. I think that New Zealand will certainly make it through to the final and that England may come up trumps against South Africa.  Both England and South Africa have had poor last results in the Cricket World Cup and they meet each other tomorrow as well, with England certainly firm favourites in the match.

I hope that you all travel safely if going away over the half-term break. Have a lovely time with your families.

God bless
Rob Duigan

Quote Of The Week

"There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction." - Oprah Winfrey.

Important Information

Christmas Tree Decoration Competition

Christmas is fast approaching and each year we enter a tree into the St Nicholas Church Christmas Tree Festival. All money raised will be donated to Flourish - a Christian based charity who support girls aged 11 to 18 years, nurturing self-esteem and mental wellbeing within Warwickshire. The Crackley Hall Christmas Tree will be adorned with decorations created by the pupils of Crackley Hall.

We are continuing to look for ways to live more sustainably and with this in mind this year’s Christmas Tree Decorations must be made from products from your recycling! The theme is ‘Peace’.

All decorations need to be submitted by Monday 20 November. Please be creative, have fun and ensure your competition entry is made from materials which were destined for the recycling. Further information will be sent out on Seesaw.

CISC & Crackley Hall Christmas Card Competition

Each year, the Catholic Independent Schools Conference challenges pupils across the UK to create their annual Christmas cards. This is done in the form of a competition which KS1 and KS2 are encouraged to enter. This year, the theme for the card is ‘Jesus – King of Kings’ and will need a religious flavour!

Work submitted should be A4, portrait or landscape and 2D – it could also be a photograph.

As always, Mr Duigan will be making a selection for our school Christmas card from those images submitted. We are also making this a House competition, with 5 house points for entering, 10 for the runners-up and 20 for the card chosen by Mr Duigan.

The closing date is 6 November. Please give any work to Ms Holmes. Work should be labelled on the reverse with pupil’s name and class, plus their HOUSE!

Get creative everyone! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Operation Christmas Shoebox Appeal

This Christmas we will be supporting the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal.

Please fill a medium sized shoebox with suitable gifts (no toothpaste or sweets) and wrap the lid and box separately. (For further guidance on contents please see Operation Christmas Child - samaritans-purse.org.uk).

Filled and decorated shoeboxes should be returned to school by Friday 10 November along with a donation of £5. Thank you in advance for your support as we continue to share God’s love with those in our community and further afield.

Whole School Junior Da Vinci Half Term Challenge - Reminder

Sustainability Challenge

Choose one of the tasks on the attached sheet to complete over the half term break.  Bring your ideas to school in any format, to share with your class teacher by Friday 10 November for a whole school display.  Be as creative as possible!

How does the food we eat directly impact the world around us?

More than half of the habitable space on Earth is currently used for food production, and the world's population is likely to grow by as much as 25% by the year 2050. Meat production methods in particular are contributing significantly to climate change. It is clear that something in the food supply chain needs to change. As we look to venture beyond Earth in the future, sustainable food produciton is one of the many challenges that we need to overcome before off-world living is a self sustaining option.

Sustainability Tasks - check the attached sheet here for further information

1. Where does our food come from?

2. Plan a mini farm

3. Did you know?

Show off your ideas for more sustainable farming and food production.

Art Success For Crackley Pupils In Regional ISA Competition

Avni and Amaya, who are now in Junior 1 and Junior 2 respectively, have come first in the Independent Schools Association’s (ISA) Regional Art Competition. While Sara and Harry (both now in Junior 6) and last year’s Junior 1 and Junior 5L have taken second place in this prestigious competition.

Every year the ISA hold an Art competition and Crackley Hall always takes part. It is a great way to celebrate the outstanding artwork produced by pupils across the school.

This year, Avni took first place with her striking Barn Owl pastel in the Art 2D Individual EYFS class while Amaya’s lovely painting, Fish Blowing Bubbles won the Art 2D Individual KS1 class.

Last year’s Junior 1 placed second in the Art 3D Group KS1 class with Birds In A Terracotta Pot, Junior 5’s Winter Print also took second in the Textiles Group KS2 class and Sara and Harry were awarded second for their Tudor Portraits in the Art 2D Group KS2 class.

We congratulate all the artists on their super success.

Avni and Amya’s work now goes forward to the ISA National Art Competition, that takes place locally, at Chesford Grange, in November.

It was great to see Princethorpe College’s artists doing well too with the College taking three firsts and a second place, including a former Crackley Hall pupil Ruby Harris who was awarded the coveted first place in the Art 2D Individual KS5 class for her piece Fast Food.

New House Events Round Off An Exciting Half Term

We have had a fantastic afternoon of House fun to round off the half term. Children from Years 3-6 gathered excitedly in the school hall to cheer on their house-mates as they took on three new exciting events in our annual House competition schedule this year.

First up was the Spelling Bee – a trial of spelling prowess with Junior 4 taking on the challenge. It was keenly contested but after much careful concentration it was Mars that proved victorious.

Next up was the Instrumentalist Final where all the children who had made it through the auditions performed. A huge well done to:

  • William playing Pluto on the piano (Mars)
  • Sienna F playing Cheshire Cat on the piano (Saturn)
  • Beatrice playing Alleluia on the piano (Venus)
  • Henry F playing Ninette's Musette on the piano (Jupiter)

We then moved on to the Vocalist Final, well done to all who took to the stage to perform:

  • Jenson sang Singing in the Rain (Saturn)
  • Isla sang Quiet (Jupiter)
  • Josie-Jean sang Everlasting (Venus)
  • Evie K sang Naughty (Mars)

Many thanks to Heather Nadin who joined us this afternoon to act as our judge for the Instrumental and Vocal finals. After hearing all of the amazing performances and considering carefully she declared the winners to be Evie, for Mars, in the Singing competition and Henry F, for Jupiter, in the Instrumental competition. A huge well done to them both.

Many thanks to all who helped with the afternoon’s fun and especially to Mr Vaughan who arranges and runs all of Crackley Hall’s House events.

Stones Symbolise Pupils Unique Contribution To Crackley Hall

On Wednesday 18 October we welcomed Father Kevin into school for our Blessing of the Stones service. Pupils new to the school gathered outside in St Joseph’s Prayer Garden where Father Kevin blessed their decorated stones before they were placed in the box underneath the cross.

Each stone represents a member of the Crackley Hall community and together the growing collection of stones provides a lasting legacy of children’s time at Crackley Hall School.

Intended as a place for prayer and reflection, our prayer garden is a special location within Crackley Hall's confines offering a peaceful place for students and staff throughout the year.

Thank you to the RE Captains for supporting Father Kevin in the service.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

What a fantastic half term we’ve had in Junior 6, the children have worked so hard the past seven weeks and they all more than deserve a well-earned break.

In English, this week we finished off our exploration of The Spiderwick Chronicles by creating our own diary entries. The children imagined that they had just moved into the mysterious Spiderwick Mansion and described the house in super detail and the strange creatures they found living inside. We were so impressed by your ambitious vocabulary and individual style - hearing about each of your experiences in the Mansion was both exhilarating and inspiring.

In Science, we finished off our week-long investigation into mold growth. The children have completed a week of fantastic scientific observations and can now compare their findings like real mycologists! You are all Superstars J6 – keep it up!

Junior 5

Junior 5 have had a busy week learning about Black History across a variety of subjects. In English, they have answered comprehension questions on Katherine Johnson and Nelson Mandela.

The children have also written non-chronological reports about an Alien (using imaginative ideas) from a newly discovered planet that NASA might have discovered with Katherine’s assistance.

In Art, Junior 5L have been creating their own Kente cloth pieces, using coloured paper and scissors to create a weaved, patterned background. Once they had created the base, they used black pen to add geometric patterns to their designs.

Junior 4

It was palindromes, motifs and pitched percussions galore in Junior 4 this week as we learnt how to compile our own mythical creatures to sound. Inspired by DJ and composer, Mason Bates, and listening to his orchestral symphony Anthology of Fantastic Zoology, each of us made a poster to represent our creatures. We then transferred this to sound using a variety of instruments in an ensemble, showing how music can conjure up creative ideas and a powerful picture in our imaginations. Each group showcased their work, whilst listening to constructive comments on how our compositions could be improved.

Junior 3

Junior 3 have been busy preparing for their writing assessment this week by fully immersing themselves in all things Stone Age. We have visited the Forest School area to think of amazing adjectives to describe a wooded Stone Age camp setting. We pretended to sit around a roaring campfire and to forage for food and tools. We even sat huddled in a make-shift cave and imagined what it would have been like for families centuries ago sat in the cold and the gloom.

Back in school, we have also been exploring the very first forms of art as we created our own cave paintings and learnt how to draw a mixed-media landscape of Stonehenge. We thought carefully about how to create perspective in our pictures by making the stones closest to us larger, and gradually becoming smaller as they got further away.

With the weather turning cold this week, we are very thankful that, in this day and age, we have warm cosy homes to return to after a day of hard work in school.

Junior 2

J2 have continued working diligently right until the end of this half term. We have enjoyed Forest School sessions with Mrs Clarke and J2R have their next session straight after half term. The children have been set a fun activity to do in the holiday on Seesaw, please have a look. All of the J2 team are exceptionally proud of the children and hope that they have a well deserved rest before we head into the next half term. I wonder what surprises there might be in store for you? See you in November J2.

Junior 1

What a fantastic end to our first half-term in Junior 1. Our class Assembly was a huge success, and everyone was so proud of how well we performed. We loved seeing our wonderful families in school on Thursday morning and everyone’s smiling faces gave us such a warm ending to our week. We have learnt so much about harvest time and we have worked hard to learn our lines and then say them as loud as we could to fill the hall. We learnt how fruit, vegetables and wheat are harvested during the autumn and how the wheat is ground into flour. We were amazed to learn how flour is used to make biscuits, cakes, pastries, bread, and pasta. We loved performing our Harvest song which we have been learning with Mrs Olden in our Music lessons, making sure we sang clearly and remembered all the actions. Now it is time for our half-term break, and we are all looking forward to having a rest from our lessons ready to come back full of energy next term. Well done, Junior 1!

Reception

This week in Reception we have been making lots of patterns in Maths. The children have used natural resources from outside to make autumn patterns, as well as creating simple patterns with shapes and colours in their Maths books. They have also been ‘wowing’ us with their writing this week. They have been writing cvc words in their books and some have even been able to write short captions to match a picture. We are so impressed!

Nursery

This week we have gone pumpkin mad with some kindly donated pumpkins of various sizes and colours. The children have loved getting their hands messy, scooping out the insides of the pumpkins and separating the seeds from the flesh. They have chopped slices of pumpkin, weighed out ingredients, mixed and spooned out the mixture, then baked delicious pumpkin muffins down at the Gables kitchen.

Outside, they experimented with wooden hammers and heavier stones, to investigate which made the best tool for hammering golf tees into a giant pumpkin.

Pumpkins even found their way into our topical action songs this week!

Monday's Mission Assembly

Mrs Horan led the school's Mission Assembly, which was based on World Mission Day, to be celebrated on Sunday 22 October. We were reminded of the ethos of our school and how we can create a school family where we grow together to become better people. Pupils were asked what they thought a Mission was. Answers ranged from being able to accomplish something in order to help people, to being given a special task to undertake.

The Bible message from the disciples of John and Matthew proclaimed us to love one another and to go out and make disciples of all nations. Mrs Horan explained that World Mission Sunday will be a chance to show love to other people throughout the world. Closer to home, we could make a difference ourselves by showing respect to each other, smiling and being kind which, in turn, would spread God's love to encourage others to do the same.

Junior 2 Learn About The Timeline Of Jesus

Junior 2 have been getting to grips with the passage of time in Jesus' life, taking care to talk about His family on earth along the way.  They understood that Jesus had a family with His mother, Mary, and earth Father, Joseph, and they then created a timeline of Jesus' life, beginning from the Annunciation, Nativity, Flight to Egypt, Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, Baptism, the call of the Disciples, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We discussed Mary's thoughts in each scenario and how she cared for her Son.

Lego Club

In Lego Club this week we helped save the earth with our very own Superheroes!  With super-cool strengths and abilities, we had a flying Iron Man who hovered and unleased a powerful unibeam. Fear not, as Spiderman was on standby shooting his webs and using his spider senses to spot those objects invisible to others. Not to be outdone, the ever-popular Captain America threw his mighty shield at the enemies, whilst Hulk and the iconic Wonder-Woman smashed and twirled their way in to save the day! What an action-packed time we all had!  Enjoy half-term Lego building everyone and remember, with a bucket of Lego, you can tell any story.

Christmas Shopping

Thank you to everyone who ordered cards, wrap and gifts through the Classfundraising web shop. Your orders are being processed and we will distribute them to you at home via your child/children as we receive them. It is likely that we will receive cards, wrap and tags first and other items such as mugs, bags, teddies, baubles and tea towels in a second delivery.

There are two more great ways to support the school's PTA and your children this Christmas!

1. Sign up to Easyfundraising for Crackley. Download the mobile app and it automatically pops up if you visit a site offering a donation. It doesn't cost you anything and really could boost funds if we all chip in a little bit by how we shop.

2. We will be holding a Grand Christmas Raffle and welcome both individual and corporate donations for prizes to create some extra joy and excitement! Please click here to let us know if you can help.  Look out for our business donors in future PTA communications.

PTA Opportunities

We're mobilising for the Christmas Fair and would welcome anyone who wants to help. It's a magical time of year for the children and how better to make it extra special than by helping to create a fun filled afternoon for them to enjoy with their friends? The children LOVE to see you helping!

We have open roles for a Vice-Chair and Vice-Treasurer: please contact the office or the PTA directly if you would like to find out more about how you can support the school in either of these positions.

Pre-loved Uniform

A huge thanks to all who supported our pre loved uniform sale this morning with both donations and purchases. We were so happy to offer many items of clothing at discounted prices and reuse quality uniform. We raised £669.50. A fantastic result.

Next PTA Meeting

Our next PTA meeting will be held at 4.30pm in the school hall on Thursday 9 November. With advance notice to the Chair, complimentary Aftercare for a parent wishing to attend will kindly be provided by the school.

Contact us via the office or on mariagordonpta@gmail.com

PTA Key Dates

Our next event is the annual Christmas Fair and it promises to be a real treat for the children. Please mark the afternoon of Saturday 2 December in your diaries.  Key PTA dates are in the poster for your reference. School Drop Off And Collection Arrangements

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally.

When collecting in the evening, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If you are unsure or wish to clarify any points, please call the School Office.

Please see below the carline locations and collections for the Michaelmas Term:
