Many thanks to all who have read through the Foundation Strategic Plan and even more thanks to those who sent through feedback – as promised, we have been in contact with all those who requested it.

A number of parents asked for more details on our sustainability plans – an outline of our strategy and progress will be published on our website before the end of this month and this should give you a really good insight to what we are currently doing and what we are aiming to achieve in the future.

There were also some queries about our plans to develop more non-fee income streams to help support the education of our pupils. Our excellent new Commercial Enterprises Manager, Gemma Cullinane, is preparing a short survey to gather your ideas about activities you, your families or friends may be interested in, ranging from adult and children leisure activities evening classes to larger scale events and weddings. An online survey will be shared with you after half term.

As I’m sure you are aware, 2024 is almost certainly going to be a General Election year. We have been in contact with the MPs and prospective MPs from the main political parties in all the constituencies where our Foundation families live and I have had face-to-face meetings with a good number of these. These meetings have been very useful in ensuring that the people who will potentially be representing us in Parliament have a good knowledge and understanding of our schools, our ethos and the key role we play in supporting families in the local community. I’m sure there will be plenty more to say about the election in the future.

Dear Parents 

It's hard to believe that this half-term has flown by so quickly. As we leave the dark and cold January behind and move into days of longer light, it certainly helps to lift the spirits.

We recently received the sad news of the passing of Mrs Kat Vaughan's mother, Beryl, which has made this week particularly sad for us. Beryl was a valued member of the wider school community and will always be remembered with fondness. We kindly ask that you keep Beryl, as well as Mr and Mrs Vaughan and their sons, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 

We are constantly striving to enhance and improve the school environment, motivate and enthuse pupils, and ensure that their time spent with us is happy and productive. It fills me with immense pride when we receive continued positive feedback from parents on a weekly basis. Of course, there are also various areas that need an overhaul or minor tweaks from time to time. Feedback here is also most useful.  Thank you for your support in all we do, including ensuring that your child arrives at school on time as this helps to give them the best possible start to each day. 

On the 3rd of February, the U10 Girls Football team travelled to Repton Prep to participate in their Girls Football Festival. The event offered the girls a chance to showcase their skills and gain valuable match experience. Competing against teams from all over the Midlands, the girls put in a tremendous effort and delivered exceptional performances.  They emerged victorious with four wins and only one loss, showcasing their individual and collective brilliance. This was a remarkable display of teamwork and determination. We are immensely proud of them, especially considering their limited experience playing together. Congratulations to the team and thank you to Mr Stedeford and Mr M Duigan for coaching the girls.

During Children's Mental Health Week, the Junior 6 student councillors demonstrated outstanding initiative by helping other children to express themselves and feel heard through the theme of "My Voice Matters." This led to a sense of community, promoted well-being, and boosted self-esteem. Throughout the week, pupils were encouraged to share their concerns anonymously or with a teacher or Junior 6 councillor, and they were also encouraged to use their voices to express gratitude towards others, promoting positivity. A calm half-hour over lunch allowed everyone to connect, chat, and participate in activities. This week served as a powerful reminder that our pupils’ voices matter, and they can use them to make a positive difference in our lives and the lives of others. I had the pleasure of attending the performing arts events at Crackley Hall this week, and I must say, they were truly inspiring. Watching the pupils enjoy displaying their incredible musical and dramatic talents left me in complete awe of their skills and passion. It was clear that the staff, particularly Mrs Olden, Mrs Wildey and Mrs Paphitis, worked tirelessly to make the evening a success, and they certainly deserve special recognition for their outstanding contributions to the performing arts. Thank you, too, to our various peripatetic and visiting teachers. I feel privileged to have witnessed the growth of the pupils' confidence and many other skills by attend Crackley Hall’s external clubs led by Jaz Hanlon, Tania Goode and Shoshana Stokes. They are inspirational teachers.

Technology truly is amazing! The Spanish Club at our school recently used VR headsets to travel to Barcelona, accompanied by their teachers. They explored the Sagrada Familia and a tapas restaurant, and even visited the beach in Alicante. It's inspiring to see how technology can transport us to new places and provide unique experiences, and it's wonderful to see how much the children enjoyed this opportunity.

Recent assessments have confirmed the wonderful progress that our pupils have been making in the core subjects. Moving forward, the school is considering ways of keeping parents more formally informed on a more regular basis as opposed to our more regular, informal communications.

I'd like to remind you of the recent changes we made to our Aftercare booking system. These changes have been introduced to provide an enhanced experience for all involved. Please note that permanent bookings are only valid for the current term, and we kindly request that you notify your child of any Aftercare bookings to avoid any confusion. If you require a same-day booking, please ensure that you make the booking by our deadline of 1:00 pm on that day. Thank you for your continued cooperation. 

I have received information that the Holiday Club is scheduled to take place from Monday, February 12 to Thursday, February 15, 2024, and is now fully booked.  If you need to cancel your booking, please note that cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the start of the event will result in a full payment fee which will be added to your fees. 

We have noticed an increase in traffic congestion during our usually smooth carline. This is mainly due to some vehicles being left unattended around the roundabout and entrance, causing unnecessary delays. Many parents in carline behind an abandoned car would need to make their way to their place of work and are being unnecessarily held up. Unfortunately, one of our staff members was unable to leave the building for two hours this week due to a vehicle parked in the staff area and blocked their vehicle. To prevent such situations from happening in the future, we kindly request all parents to park their vehicles in the designated areas as advised by the school.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week who received their certificates at assembly: Nursery – Amos and Jasper; Rec – Elliot and Amelie; J1 – Sebastian B and Bracken; J2 Aarav and Ciara; J3 – All of J3V and All of J3W; J4 – Himmy and Oscar; J5 – Mahnoor and Leo ; J6 – Evie and Jenson.  

Ireland looked very good at the start of the Six Nations. It promises to be an interesting competition, particularly if the French get going. The England v Ireland match might prove crucial.

Create your own obstacle course!

Keep yourself active this half term by creating your own obstacle course in your home or garden.

Plan, design and complete your obstacle course and send your ideas into your teacher by Friday 23 February ready for a display.

You could photograph or video yourself completing this course – what is your record time? Can your friends/siblings/parents complete it as well? What about as a team?

Here is your task outline:

1. Choose your location – ask parents where a good place would be to build your obstacle course.

2. Plan your layout – you need a start and finish line and a stopwatch to see how fast you can complete the course. Make sure you include obstacles for climbing on, balancing on, crawling over/under/through. Make sure you draw out your plan of the course.

3. Collect the materials – think about the obstacles you are going to need, cardboard boxes, benches, skipping ropes. If you have a climbing frame or trampoline are these included as part of your obstacle course?

4. Set up the course – place your obstacles and walk through each activity to check that it is safe.

5. Create a story – use your imagination to bring the obstacle course to life, are those really pillows or are they the backs of turtles to get across the shark infested water? Is that skipping rope on the grass really a tightrope across a ravine?

Send in your plan, and some photos or videos of you completing your obstacle course to your teacher.

Ms Holmes challenges you to create a portrait of yourself, or someone else, maybe someone you admire using recycled and sustainable resources. (The image shown is to give you an idea only of how you could achieve this). House points will be given for entering, for innovative ideas and for overall creativity.

Work should be your own and no larger than A3.

You should demonstrate clever use of recycling and reusing resources. Work should be brought into school to Ms Holmes by Thursday 21 March.

Our Stars of the Week this week are:

Congratulations to them all!

Crackley Hall’s Key Stage 2 Evening of Performing Arts took place on Tuesday 6 February showcasing the breadth and depth of pupils’ musical and dramatic talents.

Musical Theatre Group opened the proceedings with a spectacular The Greatest Showman Medley and that was followed by 22 performances all sparkling with crisp clear deliveries, fine-tuned fingers and well-rehearsed polish.

The evening finished, as it had begun, with the stage packed with performers as the Chamber Choir and Choral Group delivered glorious performances of favourites such as Hold Back The River and There’s A Power In The Music.

Headmaster, Rob Duigan expressed his delight at it all announcing, ‘There is no better way to spend an evening than to come and watch Crackley’s children perform. They never cease to amaze me. Thank you to them all, it has been a truly memorable evening.”

Many thanks to all of the staff involved in preparing the children and supporting the production and to Mrs Olden, Mrs Wildey and Mrs Paphitis who have shown us yet again what talent, energy and zest for the performing arts there is at Crackley Hall.

Crackley Hall’s KS1 Performing Arts Afternoon took place on Thursday 8 February and what a show it was. The concert featured music, poetry, song and dance, and parents, family and friends gathered excitedly in the hall to enjoy this celebration of the talent of our younger pupils.

Junior 1 opened the show with songs, Mirror, Mirror and The Dolphin Song, and an impressive recorder performance of the lively Djembe Jam. 15 further acts followed on includingd impressive instrumental pieces from young musicians, humorous poetry and a spectacular show piece from Encanto.

Our enormous thanks and congratulations go to all our accomplished young performers who took to the stage in front of their proud parents, and of course to their teachers who have worked so hard to help them achieve so much. Special thanks as well to Junior 6 pupils, Jenson, Sukhmani and Darcey, who hosted and introduced each act.

Nursery children were treated to a special visit on Wednesday, which included a dragon, a rat and a host of other animals. Liz from Drama Tots UK led a thrilling session based around the Chinese New Year story - her infectious energy and vivacious presence captivated the youngsters' imaginations and it was lovely to see how much fun they were having.

Our Junior 6 School Councillors came up with some fantastic ideas to support Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme was, 'My Voice Matters' and was all about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves. Recognising that children who feel that their voices are heard and that they can make a difference, have a greater sense of community and self-esteem.

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we encouraged all children and young people to be able to say – and believe - 'My Voice Matters'.

The Junior 6 student councillors made a special box for children to put their concerns or worries in and the box has been checked daily throughout the week. Children could remain anonymous, ask for their concern to be passed onto their teacher, or speak to a Junior 6 councillor (with a teacher close at hand). They also encouraged the children to use their voice to tell others how grateful they are for them, as showing gratitude can really help you to feel positive and to reflect upon the things we are thankful for.

During the week pupils also had a calm half-hour in which they could chat in general or talk about some of the worries that were raised, take part in some activities and have a nice nurturing time together.

As part of our activities for Children’s Mental Health Week, Crackley Hall School was delighted to welcome Loudmouth Theatre, an educational training company, into school on Monday 5 February. Loudmouth Theatre provide learning through the medium of theatre on personal, social, and health education topics. They delivered a great performance to Years 4 and 5 and it was a really engaging way for us to begin Children's Mental Health Week.

Junior 3 worked very hard preparing for their class assembly which was eagerly performed on Thursday morning. The children have been learning all about Fairtrade and why it is so important to look for the Fairtrade sticker when out buying grocery shopping. The performances of the children were outstanding, from Pablo and bananas, to Paloma and the farmers, and the shopkeepers and narrators too. All of Junior 3 looked very well rehearsed and they spoke and acted out their parts with confidence and enjoyment, as well as singing fantastic songs about the hard work of banana farmers with The Banana Boat Song, and about how we should look after our world and each with We Are The World. Well done, Junior 3!

The latest edition of the Crackley Review has just been published and was sent out to families this week.

Our yearbook records and reflects the last academic year giving a super insight into life in school and the wonderful learning that goes on day in day out here at Crackley Hall School and Little Crackers Nursery.

It makes a wonderful memento for children and parents, and we hope you all enjoy looking through the stories and photos.

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7 March. Children and staff will be dressing up as their favourite character from a book. There will be lots of fun activities on the day and the children will all receive a book voucher to redeem at a bookshop. Please put the date in your diaries.

We love to celebrate our pupils' talents, so every week in Celebration Assembly we hear of the childrens' successes and achievements and we watch performances by some of our pupils. Here are some photos from this morning.

A huge well done to all!

This week in French, the children have been practicing their conversational skills in preparation for their residential trip. In pairs, they introduced themselves to each other and explained where they were from and what their likes and dislikes were. They then used their knowledge of French grammar to write longer sentences about their interests. Well done, Junior 6, this was a tricky task and you approached it with real enthusiasm. We can’t wait to hear you using these skills in France! Have a restful and pleasant half-term break.

Junior 5 have been busy donning their Michael Morpurgo hats this week. It was time for the childrens' half-termly writing assessment and they were all required to step into the shoes of Michael, describing their wonderful adventures on the Peggy Sue, in a letter back home. There were some superb examples of exciting descriptive techniques, similes, metaphors and personification. The children’s writing is showing great progress and they should all be very proud.

This week in Junior 4, we have continued our investigations about the three states of matter and reversible changes. We created a mini water cycle from putting hot water in a cup, covering it with cling film and placing an ice cube on the top. We observed all of the changes water goes through on its journey through the water cycle, from evaporation, to condensation and collection.

Junior 3 have been exploring Word, PowerPoint and email in their Computing lessons. They have been learning some key skills: inserting a picture in Word; changing size, colour and type of font and creating presentations. The children have been enthusiastically emailing each other and Mrs Lammas. They have been sharing their Word document about an interest of theirs with Mrs Lammas through attaching the document to an email. Junior 3 have begun to familiarise themselves with PowerPoint, creating a piece of work about light or Egyptians, demonstrating what they have learnt in Science and History this half-term.

Junior 2 have enjoyed performing their poetry and musical skills, showcasing a vibrant tapestry of creativity. With enthusiasm radiating through the air, these young learners have transformed simple recitations into captivating performances, infusing their verses with rhythm and melody. Through the exploration of poetry, they not only develop language and communication skills, but also cultivate an appreciation for the expressive power of words. Engaging in musical endeavors adds another layer of sensory delight, fostering a holistic approach to their artistic journey. Junior 2 confidently expressed themselves - we certainly have some budding stars! 

What a super trip Junior 1 had this week to the Transport Museum in Coventry to help support their learning in history. They had a wonderful time trying out scooters to see how wheels made from different materials can alter how smooth the ride is, tried balancing rounded blocks on top of each other, had a go at sitting on a Penny Farthing bicycle and tested out a Taxi before visiting the fastest car in the world! One of the highlights was being able to see how big the old cars were and comparing them to each other. Back in school, they put on marvellous performances in the KS1 Performing Arts afternoon, reciting poems and singing songs to all of our parents. We loved watching and listening to all the other children in KS1 perform and help make the afternoon a huge success.

This week has been all about our farm visit on Tuesday. We had a wonderful time, stroking the tiny black lamb and the sheep, feeding the goats and the rabbits, standing back from the grumpy llamas and spotting the different guinea pigs, chickens and rabbits in the barn. Our helper, Paul, was full of information and introduced us to his favourite bugs too! We met the millipede, a hissing cockroach and even a tarantula! We were very proud of both classes, who listened to instructions, behaved beautifully, and finished the whole day off with a ‘climb, and a slide, and a leap and a jump’ in the soft play. 

Pancake Day falls during half term so Badgers and Hedgehogs (and Staff) couldn’t resist having a little Pancake fun this week. The children have mixed the batter; watched eagerly whilst the pancakes cooked; chosen their favourite toppings; and munched delicious, wafer-thin discs of golden yumminess! We made some extra thick pancakes to take outside so that every child could practise tossing pancakes and the children also joined in with giggles and gusto during The Grand Pancake Race. The children learned a counting song too, all about pancake disasters in the kitchen, which they wanted to sing again and again.

Inside Nursery, the Preschoolers have continued to explore our RSHE topic about keeping our bodies safe. The message this week was ‘my body, my rules’, and that ‘privates are private’. We explored the importance of talking to their ‘special people’ if anything troubles them.

Chinese Lunar New Year also falls at the start of the half term break, so Badgers and Hedgehogs have created Chinese Lanterns and tried to use hinged chopsticks to fill bowls with noodles. The cohort thoroughly enjoyed the drama workshop about celebrating the festival.

The Phonics topic for this week is the ‘Vets’, so we have been looking after lots of sick and injured animals in the roleplay area, including a huge boa constrictor!

One lunchtime, an impromptu, pop-up hairdressers set up in the classroom and Mary helped the budding stylists to create all sorts of requested styles - ‘dinosaur’, ‘unicorn’ and ‘Elsa’, to name but a few.

To coincide with Mental Health Week, Mrs Forino led the Monday Mission Assembly and talked about what impacts our mental health. Answers ranged from not having enough sleep, working too much, watching too much television, and relationships. The pupils were then asked what was missing - which was Prayer. As we listened to Mark Chapter 1:29-39, where Jesus was healing and helping people, Jesus knew He needed to take care of His own mental health and He did this by going to quiet, soliatary and lonely places to reflect, just like we can do. We all agreed that God welcomes all of us, no matter who we are or what we have done, to pray.

Playing teams from across the Midlands, the girls had a super successful event. All the girls played brilliantly, improving both individually and as a team. They claimed four wins and only had one loss and we are really proud of them all, especially considering they’ve barely played together. It was a brilliant display by all.

This week has been a whirlwind of excitement with the Performing Arts Evening for J3-6 on Tuesday, and Performing Arts afternoon for R-J2 on Thursday. It has been a great pleasure for me not only to teach these lovely children each week, but to be able to show all their parents/families their achievements has been a joy! Each and every child has grown in confidence, dance ability, musicality and team building skills. I truly believe that performing arts are so important for primary school aged children, as it allows pupils to express themselves and communicate in a completely different way and build key skills for later life.

In Spanish Club the children used our VR headsets and travelled to Barcelona this week. Mrs Westerman and Señora Green came along on the trip. They visited the Sagrada Familia and a tapas bar, then popped to Alicante for a beach visit, but were back at Crackley in time for lunch. The children seemed to really enjoy the feeling of being in a different country.

Love was in the air this week in Lego Club and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we decided to celebrate love and friendship to make this special day even more memorable by letting our close friends, family members and those we care about know how much we appreciate them. So, with this in mind, we delved into making an adorable pair of birds sitting on a branch decorated with pink hearts and flowers. A pupil wanted to make this for their mum. We also made bunches of flowers to symbolise appreciation for those we care about and we even devised a dog-dating app for our beloved pets!! We made a big red heart to represent just how much love we have for our families, and we all fell in love with a colony of penguins from Madagascar sitting on a heart shaped rock making friends with a lovestruck elephant! Just smile and wave, penguins!

Our Stay 'n' Play community were welcomed to Little Crackers Nursery on Wednesday morning for a special, 'Look Inside Nursery' session. The little ones and their adults had fun exploring our nursery setting, playing in the home corner, on the reading carpet and creating Valentine's Day keepsakes.

It was lovely to showcase the excellent facilities we have here at Little Crackers Nursery and we are looking forward to seeing some of our Stay 'n' Players starting with us over the coming months.

Due to club and activity changes, permanent Aftercare bookings are only valid for the current term. 

If you require either permanent or occasional Aftercare for the Lent Term, please make a new booking by emailing:

aftercare@crackleyhall.co.uk or receptionist@crackleyhall.co.uk

If you need to make a same-day Aftercare booking - please ensure you contact the school office no later than 1:00 pm that day. Any requests made after 1:00 pm will only be authorised at the Headmaster's discretion.

If you have booked an Aftercare session, letting your child know would also be helpful.

Any children not collected from the carline, for example, if parents are stuck in traffic, will be taken to Aftercare at 4:15 pm, when carline finishes and charged accordingly.

Aftercare runs from 3:15 pm until 6:00 pm, with charges being £5.00 per hour or part thereof.

Childcare vouchers can be used as payment or part payment for Aftercare.

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally. 

When collecting in the afternoon, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, please ensure you have notified the School Office by email/telephone no later than lunchtime that day. If you would like alternative collection arrangements to be permanent, please can you notify the School Office by email.
