Dear Parents

It has certainly been a blustery end to this half term with storm Eunice making an appearance during the course of today. Thank you to everyone who responded to the request for early collection which in turn helped alleviate waiting outside, or under the trees in the avenue, at the usual end of day. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered damage as a result of the storm.

Thankfully the weather was calm and dry on Monday morning when Mr Robertson, Foundation Grounds Manager, was able to help us plant the trees in what will become our Jubilee Garden.  Each class was able to watch the planting and every child received a commemorative pin badge celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  My thanks are extended to Mr Robertson, Mrs Stephenson and the PTA for co-ordinating the purchase of trees.  I look forward to watching the garden take shape over the next few months.

The PTA were also involved in the pre-loved book sale which took place on Monday.  Each class were able to choose from a vast selection of books in return for a donation.  The total amount raised was £466.34 and I know that our school library has benefited from this sizable donation from the PTA which has enabled us buy new stock for the library.  Children are now enjoying the refurbished library on a rota basis and it is hoped to grow this provision this year.  Many thanks to Mrs Steeples for her commitment and wonderful ideas for the library.

Junior 1 and Reception classes were very excited this week when they went on their class visits.  Mrs Hardwick led the Junior 1 visit to the Transport Museum on Wednesday and Mrs Allen and Mrs Malcolm accompanied their classes to Attwell Farm Park.  It is the first time that this year’s Reception class have been able to enjoy an excursion and it was so successful, we hope to make this an annual visit.  My thanks to all involved making these visits so enjoyable for the children.

Your child’s mid-year report will be published to My School Portal next week and there will an opportunity to discuss progress made at the next online parent consultation evening in March.  Please keep a look out for further communications on how to book appointments.  We will be returning to some ‘in person’ meetings during the next academic year.

I was delighted to be able to host our celebration assembly again today and thoroughly enjoyed watching members of Junior 5 and 6 orchestra and Reception classes perform to an audience.  This was certainly appreciated by all present and the children in class too.  Stars of the Week were presented to Teddy-Beau, Jovan, Bevan, Josh, Joshua, George, Gwen, all of J3V, Ria, Louis, Mairen, Jack, George and Elle.   There was a bumper collection of Bronze Awards presented to Reception class today, all their hard work has been recognised and rewarded with their Bronze badge which they can wear with pride.  Well done to the pupils in Junior 1 and above who have earned their bronze awards and their Da Vincis.  Congratulations to everyone who received an award today!

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing half term, whatever your plans, and hope that the children return refreshed and excited, ready for the second half of the Lent Term.  The first week back promises to be a busy one as we start One World Week and celebrate World Book Day on Friday 4 March.

Thank you to the staff for their hard work over a Covid-affected half term and our parents for all their support and understanding. I am especially pleased with the pupils for their super efforts.

A reminder that parents of children who have been offered a place at Princethorpe College need to confirm acceptance of their place with a £300 deposit by Thursday 3 March 2022. Please be aware that the College can only guarantee places which are accepted by the deadline date.

Once you have confirmed your acceptance of a place and sent your £300 deposit you will receive an acknowledgement and a receipt. A Joining Pack will then be sent to you during the Easter holidays, this will include various permission forms and essential information on school life.

Once a child reaches compulsory school age – on 31 December, 31 March or 31 August following their fifth birthday (whichever comes first) - these payments can only be made for Before and After School Care and Holiday club.

To view your statement please hover your curser over 'School Fee Invoices'. A drop-down box will appear 'Statement of Account'. Please click on this. Congratulations to them all!

Talented young tennis player, and Crackley Hall’s Junior 4 pupil, Isaac Fox has just been selected to play for Warwickshire in the Lawn Tennis Association’s County Cup. Isaac will play for Warwickshire’s U9 tennis team at Ellesmere College on Sunday 20 March.

Isaac has worked hard over the last 12 months to maintain his place in the top four ranking for his age group in the County, to secure his place in the Warwickshire squad. He was delighted to have been selected and will continue to train hard to prepare for the big event.

It is going to be a big weekend for Isaac, as the day before, on Saturday 19 March, he will also be running for Crackley Hall representing the Midlands team in the National Cross-Country finals at Worksop College.

A huge well done to Isaac and good luck!

To mark Valentine’s Day on Monday, Crackley Hall’s PTA held their popular ‘Pre-loved Book Fair’ with a large selection of wonderful second-hand books, both fiction and non-fiction, all looking to find new homes. Divided into age categories and put out on display for the children to peruse there was plenty of excitement as in turn the classes came down to choose.

Of course, the book sale was very popular with our Crackley crew, as there is simply nothing they enjoy better than exploring a new book. The brightly coloured jackets and bold titles caught the imagination of them all and our eager readers were all excited to take their new books home.

Thank you so much to the PTA for organising this wonderful event and to all the parents who donated books. Reading is such an important skill for our children, and it was fantastic to see them getting so excited about books.

On Monday morning, children from Crackley Hall School, with the help of Mr Robertson from the Grounds team at the Princethorpe Foundation, planted a tree on the school grounds adjacent to the playground. Each class came down in turn to plant their tree including the Little Crackers Nursery children.

The crab apple, rowan and field maple saplings were purchased by the PTA as part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year. There was much excitement amongst the children and staff, and even Mr Duigan couldn’t resist popping out to help Junior 2 with their planting. Every child also received a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee commemorative pin badge, and the classes will all now pin their trees on The Queen's Green Canopy map.

It's a fantastic initiative for the children to be a part of, and we will all enjoy watching the tiny trees grow.

Whole School Half Term Junior da Vinci Challenge

Junior 5 are warmly invited to a taste of senior school life at Princethorpe College on Tuesday 17 May 2022. The taster day will begin at 9.30am when the children will be transported to the College by mini-bus from Crackley Hall. Pupils will experience a variety of classroom sessions, a tour of the school and a question and answer session with our current pupils. Break and lunch will be provided and there is no charge for this day.

At the end of the day, parents are invited to join their children at 4.15pm for an informal Parents’ Information Session, offering information on entry to the College for September 2023. Light refreshments will also be served. Ed Hester, the Headmaster, along with other key members of staff will be available to talk to you about the College and to outline the admissions process. Children will also have the opportunity to trial the online CEM test, one of the exams that prospective pupils complete during the Entrance Examinations day, which will take place on Saturday 5 November 2022.

As part of the school’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, we are holding a Diamond Anniversary Gala Ball on the evening of Saturday 14 May 2022 at Crackley Hall.
 
This event was originally scheduled for March 2020 but due to the outbreak of COVID-19, it was postponed. Two years later we are pleased to be able to host the event to celebrate this milestone. The event will give past pupils, current and former parents and staff the perfect opportunity to celebrate the school’s success and rich history.
 
The Gables will be transformed into a party venue for the occasion and guests will enjoy a red-carpet welcome, champagne and canapes, a delicious hot gala buffet, with a choice of desserts, cheese and tea and coffee, followed by speeches and live music and dancing. There will be a pay bar with the facility to pre-order drinks. The fun will kick off with a reception at 7.00pm and carriages will be at midnight.
 
Heading up the evening’s entertainment will be Revolver, a versatile five piece Midlands-based band who perform classic rock and pop covers from the 50s to the present day.
 
Tickets cost £40 per head, with a maximum of two tickets available per person and online payment will be taken at time of booking. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. 

Please note, there is a finite limit to the number of tickets available. Once capacity is reached, if you would like to be notified of any returned tickets, please email jennyvaughan@crackleyhall.co.uk and state how many tickets you are looking for. You will then be added to a waiting list, on a first come, first served basis.

The dress code for the evening will be black tie and the equivalent for ladies.

Crackley Hall will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day on Thursday 3 March with lots of book related activities in school.

As two of our year groups are out of school for the day on this date, we will be dressing up as our favourite characters from a book on Friday 4 March.

Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 March 2022

The National Space Centre in Leicester is joining forces with Fairy Bricks and the Brickish Association to host a celebration of all things LEGO.

Now in its eleventh year, the weekend will see the whole building filled with huge LEGO creations, rare kits, planes, trains and automobiles, as well as LEGO shops, games and play areas (subject to government guidelines).

The event is all thanks to the Brickish Association, a UK-based community of LEGO Fans who work with LEGO to build some of the most amazing structures from the iconic bricks, and Fairy Bricks work directly with hospital play teams to provide LEGO as a vital aid to recovery.

Visitors are invited to help build a giant LEGO mosaic and smaller visitors, or even the big ones who just love LEGO, can sit down at the building tables and just get creative.

Why not get involved with this competition to create a picture book for World Book Day!

The ReadingZone Picture Book Competition 2022, in partnership with World Book Day, is challenging those aged four to 18 years to make their own picture book. You can work on your own, or with partners or in a group to create a picture book.

Judging the entries will be acclaimed author and illustrator Sarah McIntyre (Grumpycorn, The New Neighbours and Pugs of the Frozen North).

The competition closes on Friday 22 April 2022, and the winners will be announced in June. Prizes include £100 of books for each winner's school or library, plus a free online author event for the overall winner.

Crackley Hall and Little Crackers will be opening their doors for a Spring Open Morning on Saturday 5 March from 10.30am to 12.30pm. 

This is a great opportunity for prospective families to look around Little Crackers Nursery and Crackley Hall School as well as meet key members of staff. The school will come alive with musical performances and sport in action as well as an activity trail around the school. Can you find all the Crackley lambs?

In Music and Drama lessons over the last few weeks Junior 6 have been focusing on performance skills. In Drama they have been polishing and perfecting their recitals ready for their LAMDA exams next half-term. The children have worked extremely hard securing the words of their poetry and prose pieces to memory and have been concentrating on using clear diction, facial and vocal expression and good eye-contact to communicate the meaning of their pieces to an audience. They have also thought about the reasons why they enjoy a particular piece of text and how to explain their choices and give information about the text as a whole to another person. In Music the children have been working on songs from Aladdin, The Lion King and We Will Rock You – in preparation for the summer show. Some scenes have been acted out in readiness for the auditions which are scheduled to take place at the end of the term.

During RE, Junior 5 discussed the seven sacraments and how these are powerful signs which continue to be used today. We focussed on one of the three categories, the initiation or belonging, which included the sacrament of Baptism. We explored this through art and looked at how the Baptism of Jesus has been depicted by artists throughout the centuries. We then painted our interpretation of the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus during His Baptism. We thought about the symbols used in Baptism - a dove, flame, candle, baptism garment, oil and water, and used this knowledge to create our works of art. We think you will agree that they look amazing!

Junior 4 have demonstrated great stamina this week. Despite it being week 7, since the start of term they have continued their great attitude towards their learning. Their hard work has been complemented by some lovely out of class activities, including an opportunity to plant a tree, as part of the Jubilee year. Earlier in the week, the rain poured but with every cloud, there is a silver lining and that came in the form of wet weather play, where the children enjoyed watching Peppa Pig in French! In class, the children finalised their magnificent clocks that they had been creating in Art and it was wonderful to see such an array of creative ideas. Happy Half Term Junior 4!

Junior 3 have been 'walking and talking' like Egyptians this week, as our fabulous topic draws to a close. Apart from our beautiful clay cartouches (a symbolic naming-plaque for a Pharaoh), the children have been busy creating and making Egyptian crowns. We have had fun designing and building our ideas into something geometric and exotic, imaging jewels of lapis lazuli and obsidian, coral and gold. We can’t wait to see the finished display.  Junior 3V have immersed themselves in finding out all about the Ancient Egyptian process of mummification. After learning about all the elaborate steps involved and watching an amazing clip from the Getty Museum, we worked collaboratively with our learning partners to show how much we remembered by mummifying a tomato. It was a messy and fairly gruesome process. Finally, our tomatoes were ready to be left for 40 days to dehydrate and we turned our attention to learning how a mummy was covered in Mummia resin, wrapped in bandages, decorated with amulets and placed into a sarcophagus. One lucky pupil got to experience first-hand the final stages of being an Egyptain Pharaoh; can you guess who it is?

What a wonderful end to this half term. The children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic on China and it was very apt that our final lesson of the week culminated in the children delicately painting their own Willow Pattern plate for Art. In English, Junior 2 learned and performed the poem Willow Pattern Plate by Tony Mitton in true LAMDA style, they were all superstars! Everyone then went on to write some beautiful poetry based on the poem they had learnt. We also had great fun in our Maths lessons, making 2D and 3D shapes out of mini marshmallows and cocktail sticks, which really helped to consolidate the names of shapes and the language around them. In PSHE, we continued to think about our mental health and enjoyed a guided meditation using bubbles. It really helped to blow our worries away! We hope you all have a fantastic half-term and we look forward to starting our new topic on the Great Fire of London when we return to school.

A trip to the Transport museum was the highlight of the week in Junior 1. After travelling by coach, we arrived and had a workshop learning about this history of bicycles, which was very interesting. After lunch we had the opportunity to wander around the museum and find out about how types of transport have changed over time. It was interesting to see the early cars and bicycles and compare them to what we use now. There was also the opportunity to sit on a Penny Farthing bicycle and see how big it really was. In the special ‘Women in Motor Racing’ exhibition there was the opportunity to design a car and race it against another design on a simulator. There was so much to see that we all agreed to come back another day with our families and explore further.

This week, Reception went on our long-awaited trip to the farm! The children made us so proud with their amazing behaviour, asking lots of questions, being so polite and showing their caring nature to the animals. We fed alpacas, held a new-born lamb and cuddled some very fluffy rabbits! The children loved finding out about the animals on the farm and how they are looked after.

One World Week

One World Week begins after half term with sessions for each class with Sohan Kailey, to explore Indian Dance and Storytelling. This has been kindly funded by the PTA.

During the week pupils in all year groups are taking trips to different places of worship to help find out about the different ways people follow their faith. On Wednesday, children in Reception to Junior 3 will be entertained by ‘Pilgrim Puppets’ to find out more about the parable of The Lost Sheep.  Junior 3 will then help to lead the Ash Wednesday Mass at 11.15am. Mrs Olden has been busy rehearsing pupils in Choral Group in J4, 5 and 6 and they will entertain us with the song Sing to appropriately conclude our One World Week.

Junior 2 

Junior 2 have been looking at the Baptism of Jesus and how this has been depicted by artists throughout the centuries. We then painted our interpretation of the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus during His Baptism and the symbols which are used in a Baptism.  We also made our own dove to represent the Holy Spirit and used a cloud to represent the key words used in Baptism.

Our Junior 4 girls played Crescent School on Thursday afternoon in between the rain showers. The girls threw everything they had into their game, focusing hard on their footwork and their court positions. The netball was fast and furious with plenty of passing and excellent shots on goal. Well done girls.

On Wednesday 16 February, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Thomas took two Under 10 Netball teams to Eversfield Prep School, Solihull, to play Netball. It was a very windy day and all our girls played really well.

The A team fought hard in both defence and attack, as Eversfield proved to be rather strong opposition. The girls showed real determination and skill, fighting hard for every ball. Their hard work and great teamwork eventually paid off, as they impressively won 8-4. Georgie S was voted player of the match by the opposing team.

It was the first Netball match of the season for our selected B squad players, and they all tried their very best, but eventually lost 9-0. Players of the match were Sofi and Jessie.

Well done to all of our girls!                                                                    

What does a Stegosaurus, a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Triceratops all have in common?  They are all the latest mighty members of Lego Club, of course! This week our imaginations ran wild as we brought the thrills of the prehistoric age back to life and invented some new species too - thanks to a donation of some 'prehistoric' Lego from a pupil's dad! The topic of dinosaurs has long captured the imaginations of all of us and, with this in mind, we imagined if the dinosaurs still roamed the earth today, how could we live alongside them?  Some of us said we would try to make friends and maybe teach them how to swim, perhaps with Lego quadrupeds' armbands – what a great idea!   We also discussed why we don’t see animals this size today – with Bo the seal delightfully clapping her flippers in excited approval!  Would we feel safe if dinosaurs were still alive and which species of animal are they related to? Very interesting questions and discussion which inspired us even more to discover the thrills of our prehistoric giants. Here’s a question to think about - What do you call a dinosaur with a Lego body?  A Lego-saurus! Happy half-term everyone! 

This week I would like to say thank you to all those parents who contacted me to let me know they read our newsletter – I hope you enjoyed your cheeky chocolate treat!  I will be looking at ways to make the newsletter even easier to access after half term. I would also like to wish you all a Happy belated Valentine’s Day.  In the big room the Hedgehogs and Badgers have enjoyed exploring the meaning behind this lovely celebration and our book, Guess How Much I Love You, encouraged lots of conversations about our families and friends as we found out about the people we love. Hearing about all of your families really made us smile this week. Our Dormice have also had a wonderful week, exploring pouring, scooping, emptying and filling with various containers, jugs, spoons and even shells in the sand and the cereals! As some of you start Half Term I hope you all have a wonderful week, and hopefully enjoy a good rest before we ‘spring’ into Spring! Our daffodils are starting to appear and we are looking forward to some warmer days. For those of you with us all year, it is that lovely time when the school goes quiet and you get the place to yourselves! Whatever your plans, I hope you all enjoy the coming days. Stay safe and happy and we will see you all back together soon.

We had the biggest donations yet for the pre-loved book sale and we can’t thank you enough. The children were so excited to have a chance to pick books they loved and even sat down to read them before they had to go back to class. 

The total raised was £466.34.

This takes place on Fridays between 8:30-10:00am (before and during the Celebration Assembly) and outside the hall entrance. 

It is important to know we can only accommodate one year group at a time, so please continue to use the Uniform@pta.crackleyhall.co.uk email to submit your requests if you haven’t been invited to the assembly for your child’s year group. 

We are able to take cards, cash or cheque. 

We are also always looking for donations of items your child has outgrown, please drop these in the box labelled ‘PTA uniform’, located on the front porch of the school. We are in dire need of any sports track bottoms at the moment. 

As always we thank you for your support and couldn’t run the second hand shop without your generous donations. 

Thank you to all the parents who participated in purchasing the Jubilee trees. Attached you will find a picture to help you better identify your tree. The PTA have donated a commemorative Jubilee badge to every student, and they will be able to wear this on their blazer this year to honour the Queens Jubilee.
