The Chronicle

A warm welcome to the first Chronicle of the 2025-26 academic year, we hope everyone has had a good summer break and enjoyed their first week back in school.

The Chronicle is mailed out each Friday evening and includes school news, updates from the classrooms and information for parents.

It has been lovely to have the children back looking smart in their uniform and we have been impressed with how quickly they have settled into their learning.

We are looking forward to another busy and exciting school year.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Mr Duigan`s weekly message.

Dear Parents

I should like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone at the start of our new school year. I hope you and your families enjoyed a happy, restful and restorative summer break. It was a real joy to see the children return with such enthusiasm and energy, ready to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. I would like to extend an especially warm welcome to our new families, and I hope that you have already been able to connect with some of our ‘more familiar’ faces amongst the parent body. I would be more than happy to help our new families in connecting with others.

As we begin this term, I would like to take a moment to thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and smooth start and end to each school day. Our carline system is a vital part of this, and I kindly ask that all families adhere to the timings and procedures in place. These are designed not only for efficiency but, most importantly, for the safety of all our pupils and staff. Please ensure you arrive within your designated time slot and follow the guidance of our staff on duty. The field is a great space to utilise as a holding area, which will be open for your convenience, so when traffic starts to become stagnant, please use this space for waiting. I have also asked that staff ensure that they have the pupils downstairs and ready in good time. You are more than welcome to leave your car and walk to any designated area, or to help your child with their belongings. The best area for this drop-off in the mornings would be the lower playground, where you would find it less of a hurry.

There are other articles contained within this edition of the Chronicle to guide and advise; this is useful and helpful especially to our newer families who have just joined us.

This term also coincides with the Season of Creation, a time observed by Christians around the world from 1 September to 4 October, culminating in the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology and our local church here to Kenilworth. It is a season of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to caring for our common home. As a school rooted in faith and stewardship, we will be encouraging our pupils to consider how they can be caretakers of God’s creation and to cherish and protect our world and all living things.

We look forward to a term filled with learning, growth, challenge and community spirit. Thank you for journeying with us as we nurture not only academic excellence but also compassion, responsibility, and faith in our young people.

For our first celebration Assembly back, my thanks go to Edward (J6A) who opened with a superb performance of 'Singing in the Rain!' Congratulations also to this week’s Stars of the Week: Rec A - All pupils, Reception M- All pupils; J1 – Lyla and Hendrix; J2 – Charlotte and Indie; J3 – Imogen and Henry; J4 – Musa and Elliot; J5 – Michael and Jess; J6 – Will H and Gabriella.

Sara Higginbotham, our co-chair of the PTA, has called for willing volunteers and new parents on the PTA committee. It is not at all onerous and people are not expected to give more of their time than they are able. Please contact the school office should you be interested in seeing if a PTA role would suit you.

As a Foundation we are always looking at better ways to communicate, and so with that are excited to announce that My School Portal have released a new Guardian mobile app, which is now available for download. The new app makes it even easier for parents and guardians to access key information, such as reports, attendance information, teacher contacts and rewards information, as well as documents, school communications and useful links, please see the article on this for further details.

There is certainly some good sport to watch this weekend. The Springboks have a difficult fixture against the All Blacks in New Zealand, along with the US Open tennis and some international football matches. The Woman’s Rugby World Cup is well underway, with England looking very strong indeed. I did not expect the South African cricketers to beat England in the ODIs this week, but I will certainly take that result.

I would like to wish you all a happy and restful weekend with friends and family.

God bless

Rob Duigan

Medical Reminders

Please note these important medical reminders.

Diarrhoea and Vomiting

Children must stay off school for 48 hours after the last instance of diarrhoea or vomiting.

Short-Term Medicines

In general, most short-term medicines, e.g. antibiotics, cough medicine, seasonal hay fever medication etc should be managed so that it is not necessary for the medicines to come into school.

If this is not possible, the medication should be brought to the School Office by an adult and not your child, in it's original packaging, clearly named with your child’s name and class, and with a completed Administration of Medication Form.

Long-Term Medicines

If your child suffers with a chronic medical condition and has been prescribed medication to take whilst at school, the medication should be brought to the School Office by yourself, not your child, in it’s original packaging, clearly named with your child’s name and class, and with a completed Administration of Medication Form.

Further documentation may need to be completed, e.g. Inhaler Consent Form, Care Plan etc. Please discuss this with the School Office.

Blessings Of The Stones - For New Starters

On Wednesday 17 September, all new pupils at Crackley Hall will take part in our special Blessings of the Stones service. We warmly invite all Reception children and new starters from across the school to bring in a stone that they have painted or decorated to represent themselves.

Children may choose to write their name on the stone, draw their family, a hobby, a flower, a symbol, or a favourite place, anything meaningful to them. They are encouraged to paint it in their favourite colour and varnish it to preserve their design.

During the service, Father Kevin will bless each stone and speak to the children about belonging to the Crackley Hall School community, reminding them that it is the children who help to build a school. The stones will then be placed in our prayer garden, serving as a lasting symbol of each child’s place in our school, even after they have moved on.

Please ensure stones are brought to your child’s class teacher by Monday 15 September.

Junior 5 children and any other children taking part in a sport club or fixture,  will need to bring their PE kit in their named sports bag, and will have time to change after their photographs.

A Warm Welcome Back To School

We gave a very special welcome to all our new pupils on Tuesday as we started the new school year. We know that they will thrive and be very happy here.

We began the school year with an assembly led by Mr Duigan who highlighted the importance of Crackley Hall's ethos and how that helps us work together so we can all succeed. He also talked about the importance of relationships and how being kind to one another helps build strong foundations within our school family.

It's going to be a busy and exciting term, full of lots of lovely learning, as we lay the foundations for another successful academic year.

Introducing Our Nursery Management Team

We are delighted to have our new nursery management team in place after welcoming Rosemary Flint as Nursery Manager and Sharon Doran as Deputy Nursery Manager to Little Crackers Nursery. They will work alongside our existing Deputy Manager, Clare Bird, to deliver our exciting plans for Little Crackers Nursery.

Rosemary is a qualified early years teacher with a wide range of experience in different settings, including most recently Bromsgrove School. She will lead on curriculum development, the children’s enrichment activities, staff development and training, as well as communication with parents. Rosemary will also join the extended Senior Leadership Team at Crackley Hall to ensure the nursery is well aligned with the strategies of the main school.

Sharon has a degree in Early Childhood Education Studies and has experience as an early years leader at King Henry VIII Preparatory School and Pathways Nursery amongst others. She will be responsible for ensuring all compliance is correct and in place for the nursery, which will include staff:child ratios, reporting and funding.

We are immensely grateful to Clare Bird for taking on the Acting Nursery Manager role for the last few months, with Rosemary’s arrival she will revert to her role as Deputy Nursery Manager and will now take the lead in launching and developing the new Ladybirds Room for babies from 9-months-old.

The nursery leadership team will work together with Emma Malcolm, Head of Early Years and KS1 at Crackley Hall, to ensure that Little Crackers Nursery goes from strength to strength.

Over the summer, we have also welcomed Harriet Sharpe to our Nursery team as a Nursery Practitioner. Harriet is a former Crackley Hall School pupil and is looking forward to furthering her experience in childcare before she commences her training as a Norland Nanny.

Comments, Rob Duigan, Headmaster, “With these appointments we now have a highly skilled management team in place to deliver our exciting and ambitious plans for Little Crackers Nursery. Their knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for the early years sector shone through at interview and I am delighted to welcome them to the Crackley Hall and Little Crackers family.”

Nursery Waved Goodbye To Mary And Louise

Over the summer holidays we bid farewell to the wonderful Mary and Louise from the Nursery team.

Marvellous Mary had been with the school for 25 years, a total of 19 in Little Crackers Nursery. During her time, she has loved and looked after so many children providing them with the very best of starts to their school journey. Knowing her love of baking, the children had hand-printed an apron as a special goodbye gift. Louise had been with Little Crackers for three years and was moving on to new adventures.

We were sad to see these amazing ladies go; we will miss them both and we wish them the very best for the future.

Crackley Hall Thrilled With Former Pupils' Exam Results

In August, we were incredibly proud to see the Classes of 2018 and 2020 receiving their respective A-level and GCSE results. We wished them well and hope we brought back some fun memories with the old photo we found of the Class of 2018 when they were here at Crackley Hall School. We were thrilled to see our former pupils achieving such good grades and congratulate them and their fellow pupils at Princethorpe College on an excellent set of exam results. It is always so wonderful to watch our pupils go on to so much success.  We wish everyone the very best of luck as they move on to their choice of next steps.

Top Tips For Navigating The Chronicle On Your Mobile Phone

To help families new to the school, and as a reminder for all, here are some top tips for navigating the school's e-newsletter, The Chronicle, on your mobile phone.

You will receive an email when the newsletter is published that contains links to the key news, events and information. Below the edition date is a link to read the full newsletter. That takes you to a menu page where you can navigate to the sections that interest you.

The best way to read the newsletter and to ensure you don’t miss important content, is to start with the Foundation Principal's and Headmaster’s Messages and then just use the next button to quickly run through the content, stopping to read relevant articles along the way.

Moving around the newsletter is easy, just use the menu button (three horizontal lines) to access the menu, select a section and then scroll down to choose an article to read. From this same menu button, you can also access previous editions of the newsletter and see any key dates. There is also an index which lists all of the content in one place, it can be found on the menu button or through the link at the top right of the main newsletter home page.

You can read the newsletter on your laptop if you prefer, with the menu button working in just the same way.

The Chronicle is one of the school's main communication tools and is always a good first place to look for information and news. Bookmarking https://chronicle.crackleyhall.co.uk/ will allow you to get to the newsletter quickly.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

A brilliant beginning for Junior 6! This week our Junior 6 pupils have made a fantastic start to a very special year; their last year at Crackley Hall. The children have settled in well to their classes and subject groups. There has been plenty of cheerful chatter amongst the pupils about their summer holidays and they have also enjoyed getting to know their new teachers. The wet weather meant that PE could not take place on the field on Wednesday, but instead the Games staff led a variety of lively multi-sports activities in the hall which was met with great enthusiasm.

The Junior 6 classrooms are buzzing with energy and an eagerness to learn. We are all excited about the year ahead and the memories we will make together. Go Junior 6!

Junior 5

Junior 5 have made a fantastic start to the academic year. Some have created wonderful pieces of work over the summer, showcasing their skills, and all children have settled in splendidly, adapting quickly and calmly to new routines. The children have shown their enthusiasm in all classes; displaying their mathematic knowledge, literacy skills and much more. In French, Junior 5 worked collaboratively, using new words to ask each other how they were feeling. The Junior 5 team are looking forward to teaching them and seeing them grow and flourish over this year.

Junior 4

This week, our pupils have shown great enthusiasm and maturity as they settled into new routines and embraced their new classrooms. Their responsible attitude has set a brilliant tone for the term ahead, and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they’ll achieve. We’ve been busy with a variety of collaborative activities - working in teams and with learning partners - which have helped us earn some well-deserved stars on our Crackley Compass charts. It’s been lovely to see such positive teamwork and determination. In Art, excitement was high as we began designing our Christmas cards, and we loved sharing our summer holiday experiences in our English lessons.  A very warm welcome to our new classmates, Aden and Musa. We’re delighted to have them join our Junior 4 family, and they’ve already begun forming lovely new friendships.

Featured Image

Junior 3

Junior 3 have made a fabulous start to their new school year with tremendous enthusiasm and happiness that has filled the classroom with positive energy. As an introduction to their Science lesson with Mr Vaughan, they demonstrated excellent skills by sorting various foods into their respective groups - fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy products. The children showed impressive curiosity as they discovered the essential nutrients that different foods provide, including carbohydrates for energy, proteins for growth and repair, and vitamins and minerals for body functions. Building on this knowledge, they were able to clearly explain the basic things that both animals and humans need to survive and stay healthy.  Well done, Junior 3!

Featured Image

Junior 2

Júnior 2 children have had a great start to the week learning about representing numbers using a variety of resources. Working in pairs, the children challenged each other and shared ideas. Lots of lively discussions with plenty of smiles showed how engaged and ready to learn they all are. In addition, we have been familiarising ourselves with our new classroom, and who we can go to if we ever feel worried or anxious. A super first week, Junior 2!

Featured Image

Junior 1

Junior 1 have had a lovely start to the year and have settled into their new classes with enthusiasm and confidence. The children are already embracing life in Junior 1, showing great curiosity and a positive attitude towards learning. In History, they have begun exploring the topic of homes in the past, comparing them to those we live in today. In Geography, they have been learning about where our school is located in the world, helping them develop a sense of place and belonging. In Science, the children have enjoyed identifying and naming parts of the body, building their knowledge through fun and interactive activities. It's been a fantastic start, and we’re excited for the term ahead!

Reception

This week marked a wonderful start to the Reception year, with the children settling in beautifully to their new environment. They have been busy making new friends, exploring the classroom, and becoming familiar with daily routines. The children enthusiastically joined in with counting songs, shared stories together, and proudly presented their 'All About Me' posters, helping everyone learn more about each other. A highlight of the week was their first Forest School session, where they enjoyed outdoor learning and exploration. It’s been a joyful and successful beginning, with everyone settling in well and showing great curiosity and enthusiasm.

Sport Kicked Off At Crackley With Pre-Season Rugby

We had a wonderful morning last Saturday with our pre-season rugby event, welcoming pupils from Years 4 to 6 for a lively start to the term.  The children threw themselves into drills and tag rugby games with great enthusiasm, showing real promise and plenty of team spirit.

A highlight was the ever-popular tug of war - parents vs pupils!  There was no shortage of determination on either side, and plenty of laughter too. Welly football rounded off the morning with muddy mayhem and flying boots, much to everyone’s delight.

Thank you to all the families who came along to support - it was a brilliant way to kick off the season. We’re looking forward to all that’s to come!

A Week In Dormice

We have had a joyful start to the new term!

This week in Dormice, we’ve had a wonderful start to the new academic year, welcoming back familiar faces and embracing new starters into our nurturing nursery environment. The children have settled in beautifully, diving into a week full of exploration, creativity, and connection.

As part of our EYFS curriculum, we will be supporting the children’s personal, social and emotional development by encouraging them to explore their surroundings and build relationships. From discovering the cosy corners of the Dormice room to adventuring in the Early Years playground and Forest School, every moment has been an opportunity to spark curiosity and foster independence.

We’ve also introduced exciting enrichment activities including Mandarin, French and Music, these sessions have been a great success, with children enthusiastically joining in songs, rhythms and new words.

To help children feel a sense of belonging, we’ve created beautiful birthday flowers for our celebration board, crafted clouds filled with 'All About Me' information and added handprints to our growing nursery family tree. These activities not only support fine motor skills and creativity but also help children express their individuality and feel part of our Dormice community.

It’s been a joyful and enriching start and we’re excited for all the learning and laughter ahead!

A Week In Badgers And Hedgehogs

What a lovely week we have shared together in Nursery.

The children have been gently finding their feet as they get accustomed to our new routines and expectations. They have been utterly delightful.

Badgers and Hedgehogs have been introduced to a daily circle time ‘Talk to Teddy’, listening carefully to each other and taking turns to speak. We have chatted about such things as our favourite foods and colours, our night-time snuggle toys, and who are our special people at home.

They are learning to work in pairs and to leave a work-station ready for the next friend, once they have accessed it.

We have begun to share our daily prayers here

We have also been reminding children how to keep themselves safe by washing hands carefully and we have practised moving around school in a quiet line, holding a partner’s hand.

A fabulous start to the new academic year, so well done everyone!

A Week In Nursery

Our Dormice embarked on a thrilling journey exploring the world of transport this week.

In the water, children transformed into little sailors, splashing about in boats. This activity was a refreshing escape, especially on warmer days, and a fantastic way to discover the magic of floating and sinking.

To boost their gross motor skills, the children became artists, using large sheets of paper and chunky crayons. They stretched across the table, creating vibrant marks that helped strengthen their arm and shoulder muscles. This activity was a wonderful blend of creativity and coordination.

Matching shapes with different modes of transport turned into an exciting puzzle adventure. Some shapes were easy to identify, while others presented a fun challenge, requiring a bit of help from the adults. This activity was perfect for enhancing shape recognition and cognitive skills.

In preparation for their upcoming Sports Day, the children are training to be little athletes during their PE sessions. More details about the Sports Day will be shared soon, but parents are encouraged to save the date: Tuesday 10 June, 9:30-10:00am - come and cheer the children on as they showcase their skills!

Our Badgers and Hedgehogs have feted the sizzling May sunshine in traditional style, by dancing round the Maypole. First, we clapped along to the catchy Folk music whilst we watched some clips of other people weaving in and out, holding streams of brightly coloured ribbons.

Then, children took turns with a partner, using just two ribbons and trying to coordinate a skip, which is quite tricky. So, some of us managed a loppity gallop around the classroom Maypole instead. Then we took the dancing outside to bravely attempt a group of four dancers around the tree, which was joyful to watch.

This week, we have been keeping Pope Leo in our prayers as he begins his very important job, as God’s special helper. The children voted on their favourite photo of the Pontif, for our prayer table. We think Robert Prevost has a kind smile and will be very good at looking after us all. Our Little Crackers are pretty good at sharing God’s love, with lots of children spotted showing care for each other and for our classroom, this week.

We had a kind donation of comic books this week, which gave the children an opportunity to chat about the different cartoon characters as they cut out some of the illustrations.

In the craft corner, Louise tickled the children’s toes with a paint roller as they prepared a footprint for a very special event in the ‘not too distant’ future…

Warwickshire Police - Parking Notice

Dear Parents

The school has been contacted by Warwickshire Police and the road safety education team, regarding unsafe and inconsiderate parking at school drop off and collection particularly when there is an event on at the school.

We would like to remind all parents of Crackley Hall School that the parking restrictions outside of the school are there to help keep you and your child/ren safe.

Yellow Zig Zag Markings

The School Keep Clear Markings outside of your child’s school create areas that must be kept clear so that children and young people can see clearly when crossing the road.

These markings indicate the part of the road where drivers should not wait, stop, or park their vehicle.

Vehicles must not be parked, even for a few minutes, on the School Keep Clear/Yellow Zig Zag markings.

Junctions

Vehicles must not be parked within ten metres (25 feet) of a junction.

White Zig Zag lines

Vehicles that park on WHITE ZIG ZAG lines are liable to get a fine of £100 and three points.

Park and Stride – The Field

The school is lucky to have use of the Field as an overflow car park as a park and stride location when events are held at the school.

Please do use this car park and help make the area near and around the school a safer place for your child/ren.

To help keep your children safe, the police will be conducting patrols around the school sites focusing on parking. They can issue tickets for parking which causes an obstruction to other drivers or pedestrians.

Let us all work together to keep our children safe.

A Great Trip for Junior 6 Historians

During the Summer holidays, Ms Holmes and Mrs Hardwick had a fabulous trip to the ‘Back to Backs’ in Birmingham.

For pupils in Junior 6 this is a wonderful opportunity to see how the Victorian working class lived from 1837 onwards.

It’s quite small venue, so not feasible for all the pupils to visit in one go. However, as a half term family visit, it is a wonderful opportunity to see life as it was and consolidate learning.

You would need to book – visitors are shown round by a guide (1.5 hrs), enjoy!

Book Recommendation

With her love of great books and Library Head on, Ms Holmes recommends this wonderful book, which has been turned into a stage show and is showing at the Belgrade. Suitable for 7+ (although ideally Junior 5 and Junior 6).

Booking details on the Belgrade, Coventry website.

Enjoy!
