Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

It’s been another action-packed week at Crackley Hall, full of achievements, adventures, and joyful moments.

Huge congratulations to Isabel (J5L) and Fred (J4A) who represented Crackley Hall at the ISA National Finals this week. Isabel won two silver medals in sprint heats and Fred, just missed out finishing fourth in his sprint heat. Their dedication and sportsmanship were truly inspiring, and we are so proud of their achievements on the national stage. Well done!

Reception’s Trip to the National Space Centre also took place on Monday where they had a stellar time exploring the wonders of the universe at the National Space Centre. From rockets to planets, the children were captivated by the interactive exhibits and returned full of excitement and curiosity. Thanks to all the accompanying staff who led this exciting day, linking into their curriculum well.

Well done to all our pupils who took part in the London College of Music examinations. Their hard work and practice have paid off, and we look forward to celebrating their results soon. Thanks to Mrs Olden for the organising and planning of these.

Little Crackers held a Teddy Bears’ Picnic this week. Our youngest pupils enjoyed a magical Stay ‘n’ Play session in Forest School, complete with a teddy bears’ picnic! It was a delightful morning of storytelling, nature play, and cuddly companions. Thanks to Mrs Vaughan, our Registrar who attends every session and is on hand to answer any admissions questions that guests may have.

A heartfelt congratulations to our Nursery leavers who celebrated their graduation this week. It was a special occasion filled with smiles, songs, and proud moments as they prepare to take their next big step into Reception. I have been informed that you all looked so smart in your graduation gowns, and the cake was delicious!

Led by Mrs Olden, our music concert showcased the musical talents of pupils across the school. From solo performances to ensemble pieces, it was a joyful celebration of music and creativity. The pupils were outstanding, I am told. Well done to those who performed and thank you to parents who came to watch, as your support is always appreciated. I am sorry that I was not able to join everyone at this event.

Junior 6 is currently on the return journey from their residential trip, and enjoyed a memorable trip to France, where they explored the WWII landing beaches, visited historical  buildings, including churches, and attended Mass, amongst other exciting activities. The BBQ’d snails were a new experience for some, but were received rather well!

Our celebration assembly opened with a wonderful group of Cornet musicians - Gabriella, Emily, Vincent, Will and Oscar, our Junior 5 pupils who played `Cheesy Feet` so well. Congratulations to you all!  Congratulations also to this week’s Stars of the Week: Nursery – William; Rec – Arthur and Kit; J1 – Darcey and Henry; J2 – Bracken and Eli; J3 – Oscar and George; J4 – Fred and Sloane; J5 – William and Thomas. Well done to all those who received Crackley Compass stars and Da Vinci certificates. It was also fantastic to be able to hand out so many ‘out of school’ awards and acknowledge the super achievements of so many of our pupils. Well done to all of you.

As we approach the end of term, we would like to inform you of some upcoming staff changes. Please read my additional piece in this week’s newsletter for full information.

I would like to wish everyone a happy and restful weekend.

God bless

Upcoming Staff Changes

Dear Parents

I am writing to inform our school community of some exciting news about our Deputy Head, Ms Sharon McAloon. After successfully progressing through several challenging interviews, Ms McAloon has recently been appointed to the role of Head of Primary at the Nord Anglia School Jakarta. We offer her our sincere congratulations.

I am delighted for Ms McAloon, who has made such a positive difference to Crackley Hall over the past four years, initially as Assistant Head: Academic and then as Deputy Head. I am absolutely certain that she will continue to enjoy much success in her exciting new role. We, as a school, are equally proud of the part we have played in her development as an educator, senior leader and future Head of School.

Crackley Hall is blessed to have a very strong leadership team and teaching staff and are in a position to promote excellent staff from within the current leadership structure and teaching team. As such, the Trustees have agreed to allow Ms McAloon to start in her new post from the beginning of the Michaelmas Term. This also allows Crackley Hall to have their new Deputy Head in place at the start of a school year.

I would like to congratulate Mrs Sorcha Horan, Assistant Head: Ethos and RE on her appointment to the position of Deputy Head. Mrs Horan impressed the interview panel with her understanding of the school and its values and on her ability and drive to maintain and improve academic standards, communications and the outstanding all-round educational offering for our pupils. She will be taking up post from 1 September 2025. Mrs Horan has worked at Crackley Hall for 11 years, in various capacities, including Head of English and Assistant Head.

This promotion has created the opportunity on the leadership team for an Assistant Head: Academic. I am equally delighted to inform the school community that Mrs Anna Van Zyl, current Head of EYFS and KS1, will be our new academic lead from 1 September 2025. Mrs Van Zyl has also worked at Crackley Hall for 11 years and is an exceptional teacher, committed to modelling and ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning will be maintained and further developed in the future. I would also like to offer my congratulations to Mrs Van Zyl on her appointment.

I would like to thank all the senior leaders at Crackley Hall for their outstanding contribution to ensuring the growing success of our school and am excited at the opportunity that has arisen for Mrs Horan and Mrs Van Zyl to assume their new positions.

Yours sincerely

Rob Duigan

Junior Da Vinci Programme

May's Junior da Vinci Challenge

The Crackley Hall Junior Da Vinci programme encourages all pupils to be inspired to be the best that they can be. The Junior Da Vinci programme embraces three adapted principles - Creativity, Practice and Mastery - that the children demonstrate in their learning.

This year we are ensuring that all pupils in the school have opportunities to achieve Junior Da Vinci awards. The Da Vinci leaflet gives more information about this programme.

We have moved away from termly and half termly JDV challenges and are using a monthly theme to suggest activities to challenge and interest pupils. Each month different activities will be suggested. Pupils do not have to complete all, or any of these activities. They are available to all pupils in all years, so pupils can choose to investigate something that they are interested in. Bring any examples of activities that have been completed to Mrs Cowlishaw to share with the whole school.

Please see here for June's challenge.

Look out for news of the children achieving Junior Da Vinci's in the Awards section of the Chronicle over the year.

Pre-School Group Graduates From Nursery

Our Little Crackers Nursery team organised a very special ‘Graduation Ceremony’ to celebrate the pre-school group ‘moving on’ to big school. The ceremony took place on Thursday 19 June, in front of their families and the children were each presented with a little scroll by Nursery Manager, Clare Bird.

Our Badgers had practised special songs for the occasion and sang them perfectly, they also performed an amusing sketch, helpfully reminding them all what they need to take to school. There was even a special cake for everyone to enjoy.

Mrs Bird said, “It was wonderful to mark this important moment for our Little Crackers. We are all sorry to see this fantastic group of children move on, but we wave goodbye with a smile and plenty of good wishes for exciting times ahead.”

Magical Morning At The Teddy Bears' Picnic!

Thank you to everyone who joined our final Stay 'n' Play session this year. We had a morning out in the forest filled with stories, laughter and teddy bear adventures! The woods came alive as little explorers and their cuddly companions roamed the trails, uncovering hidden treasures and enjoying the fresh forest air.

The teddy bear hunt was a huge hit - so many bears were found tucked away in trees and bushes, waiting to be discovered. Story time brought everyone together under the colourful bunting and each child went home with a delicious gingerbread man gift!

Stay 'n' Play returns in the Autumn on Wednesday 10 September. Keep an eye on our website for a full programme of activities www.littlecrackers.co.uk/staynplay

Angelica Wows At Leamington Festival

Last weekend, Junior 5 pupil, Angelica, who first started learning the cello here at Crackley Hall, entered two cello classes at the Leamington Festival String competition.

In the Grade 3 and Grade 4 trophy class, she performed Bourrée by G.F. Handel against two other children and was delighted to win first place, taking home the trophy.

The Under 11 trophy class was more challenging, with seven competitors including four at Grade 6 or 7 level. Despite feeling intimidated by the standard of her competition, Angelica performed Latin Nights with determination and earned joint second place alongside a Grade 7 cellist.

 Well done, Angelica!

Learning In Action

Junior 6

Junior 6 have had a fabulous week in France! On Monday they explored the D-Day Landing beaches at Arromanches, ordered ice creams and visited the 360 cinema. After braving the French supermarket on Tuesday morning, the children travelled to Lisieux. They had a tour of the beautiful basilica built in honour of St Thérèse and attended Mass. On Wednesday the pupils met some amazing animals at Cerza Safari Park! In true Crackley style, the children performed brilliantly at their talent show in the evening! They also ate a delicious BBQ at the gîte. On Thursday the group prepared for a busy day in Bayeux. They saw the cathedral, a World War Two Cemetery and the Bayeux Tapestry.
The children are going to arrive home on Friday night with some very happy memories of their Normandy adventures in the beautiful French sunshine.
Vous êtes formidables Junior 6!

Junior 5

This week, Junior 5 enjoyed learning about the final stage of the human lifecycle – old age. They then enthusiastically engaged in an investigative lesson about average life expectancy, researching and comparing statistics around the world, as well as discussing reasons why life expectancy differs so drastically depending on where you live. All of the children completed excellent investigative work and all contributed to an interesting and thought-provoking discussion.

Featured Image

Junior 4

This week, Junior 4 have been channelling their inner poets during English lessons, diving into the world of rhyme and rhythm. Inspired by a variety of rhyming patterns, the children set to work crafting their own Viking-themed poems. With plenty of laughter and imagination, they produced some wonderfully witty verses!

Over in Maths, the class have been exploring turns, 2D shapes and angles. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving challenges, they’ve strengthened their understanding of geometry in a fun and practical way.

Well done, Junior 4, for another week of brilliant learning and boundless creativity!

Featured Image

Junior 3

Junior 3 have become very enthusiastic green activists this week through their cross-curricular work around biomes and The Great Kapok Tree. In Geography they learnt about the different biomes around the world and were amazed to see how so many countries had such a variety of biomes, particularly Australia. In English they used The Great Kapok Tree  text to explore the perils of chopping down trees in the Amazon rainforest. The children learnt about the language features of persuasive texts and used them to help them prepare to write letters to the rulers of the world, persuading them to stop chopping down trees. We have been thrilled with the children's engagement and passion about this topic. Let’s make a difference, Junior 3!

Featured Image

Junior 2

This week in Junior 2 has been full of creativity, curiosity and hands-on learning! The children thoroughly enjoyed sewing their very own bookmarks, developing fine motor skills and expressing their individuality through colourful designs. In Maths, the focus was on statistics, where pupils explored data collection, tally charts and bar graphs with great enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see every child engaged and excited about learning, making it a truly memorable and enjoyable week for all.

Junior 1

What a beautiful sunny week we have had! The children have loved playing in the sun and cooling off in the shade at break times. This, of course, didn't stop them from working hard in class developing their non-fiction writing skills in English, while creating fact files about different animals or creatures. They have also been looking at turning, positioning and directional language in Maths which, when you added in clockwise and anti-clockwise, made everyone really stop and focus. In Art this week, we managed to finish our Under The Sea work that we started a week or so ago. After waiting for the backgrounds to be dry we could add on the foregrounds of different sea creatures which were made by either using oil pastels, pencil crayons or collage and they are wonderfully colourful and charming to look at.

Reception

We started the week in Reception with an 'out of this world' trip to the Space Centre in Leicester.  The children all enjoyed our adventure and were full of beans, even after climbing to the very top of the rocket tower! They saw rockets, found out what the cockpit was like and even mixed oxygen with fuel to make rockets shoot up high. They found out about many of the planets and lay back in comfy chairs to look at the stars and experience being up in space in the amazing planetarium. It was a busy day, with buttons to press, wheels to turn, robots to control and fantastic sights to see - the children had so much fun and it really kick started their writing for the rest of the week.

Monday Mission Assembly

Ms McAloon led Monday's assembly with a lovely reflection on our school ethos, where we love, learn and grow together as a school family. She then taught us about the Feast of Corpus Christi, which means 'Body of Christ'.

When Ms McAloon asked what the word 'feast' means, the children shared that it's about celebrating something special. The Feast of Corpus Christi is exactly that - a special Catholic celebration that happens every year.

Ms McAloon then told the children an interesting story behind this feast day. It all started with a Belgian nun called Juliana who had a dream about a full moon with a black spot on it. She told her bishop about the dream and he was so impressed that he started a festival in their local area. Word spread about this new celebration and eventually Pope Urban IV decided to make it a festival for the whole Catholic Church. Then in 1311, Pope Clement V made it official by announcing that Corpus Christi would be a feast day that all Catholics should celebrate.

The feast happens on the first Thursday after Trinity Sunday, which is 60 days after Easter Sunday each year.

Little Crackers

A Week In Dormice

We started off the week by getting creative with sensory play - crushing cereals and mixing them with blue bubble foam to make our own pretend ice creams. Outdoors, we practised our climbing skills and explored the woodland area, which offered a refreshing break from the heat.

Rolling tyres back and forth with friends and adults brought lots of giggles and we even took some adventurous steps by climbing on them together - great for building confidence and teamwork!

Our story this week was The Stone Boy and the Little Girl. The children loved using stones and shells to recreate their own stone boy and they were fascinated by the idea of hearing the sea in the shells.

To wrap up the week, we got crafty by making lighthouses using two different coloured sheets of paper. We added a special touch by using a shaving brush dipped in brown paint to create rocky textures at the base.

A Week In Badgers And Hedgehogs

How wonderful to reflect upon all the joy and learning over the past year, as Badgers prepared to celebrate their Graduation from Nursery into ‘Big School’.

We looked at all the special uniform and everyday essentials which the children will need to prepare for Reception, and we shared these items as the basis for our wonderful celebration with Parents on Thursday afternoon.

Over the year, children have learned to quickly pick up songs when we have an audience to impress, and on this occasion, to thank. It is one of the many signs that our Badgers are now ‘Reception-ready’.

Plenty of scrumptious cake, lots of clapping and not a dry eye in the house – a perfect afternoon!

This week, Hedgehogs and Badgers have made the most of the glorious weather and spent a goodly portion of the week’s playtimes climbing trees, in the cool shade of the Outside Classroom.

During PE, Mr Vaughan blew his sports whistle as he refereed a grand Football match on the astro turf, with several balls on the pitch and Louise in goal. The children raced up and down until they were completely puffed out, so they enjoyed fabulous aerobic exercise during the session.
