Dear Parents

Our school was transformed into a breathtaking Winter Wonderland last Saturday, adorned with twinkling lights, vibrant decorations, and the sound of festive music. The annual Christmas Fair was a joyful occasion that brought together families and friends to revel in the magical atmosphere. Children were immersed in the array of games and crafts on offer, while traditional tombolas and stalls were brimming with goodies.  I would like to convey my deepest appreciation to the incredible PTA (particularly Mrs Gordon and her small team of willing helpers) and everyone who lent a hand or participated in the event. Witnessing so many people enjoying the festive mood and creating unforgettable memories was a heartwarming experience. 
 
The Stay 'n' Play Christmas Party was a wonderful representation of the season. The children had a fantastic time participating in seasonal crafts and play activities. The delicious party food and mince pies further added to the joyous atmosphere. The most exciting moment of the day was undoubtedly the arrival of Santa Claus himself, spreading happiness and warmth to all. 
 
The excitement was palpable in the Junior 1 classes as they welcomed their elf visitors. With Christmas just around the corner, the children were eager to show their gratitude and wrote letters to their elf and to Father Christmas. During their science lesson, they had the opportunity to make a Christingle, a powerful symbol of hope and love. The orange, candle, red ribbon, and sweets/fruit all came together to represent God's creations in the four seasons, Jesus bringing light and hope to people on earth, and God's love and sacrifice for humanity. It was a heartwarming reminder of the true spirit of Christmas. 
 
The Advent Service, delivered by J5 and J6, was both prayerful and joyous. It was heartening to see so many parents and family members attending, all eager to witness the fantastic performances of our talented pupils. Our pupils delivered a performance of the highest order and reverently portrayed the meaning of Advent, with an early glimpse of Christmas. Before the performance, the guests enjoyed a warm welcome and delicious refreshments, which added to the festive mood. The catering staff did an excellent job and the Estates and Office teams ensured that the venue was in top-notch condition. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Olden, Mrs Wildey and Mrs Paphitis for their exceptional efforts in organising this event, ably supported by the J5 and J6 classroom staff. 
 
On Thursday, Junior 4 presented an inspiring class assembly on the theme of Advent. Through their lovely performance, they celebrated the spirit of hope, peace, joy, and love that permeates this special season. The pupils shared their understanding of Advent and how John the Baptist encouraged people to prepare the way for the Lord. They also explored how various cultures around the world celebrate Christmas and talked about the positive impact of Operation Christmas Child. Junior 4's performance left everyone filled with hope and with a deeper appreciation of the Year for Prayer that we are now in. The pupils also lifted everyone's spirits through their singing of Away in a Manger and Feliz Navidad with such enthusiasm and joy.

This coming Wednesday we have a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference to those in need. We will be donning our Christmas jumpers to show our support for children who face serious challenges such as war, hunger, and poverty. By participating in Christmas Jumper Day and donating £2.00 to the Save the Children charity, we can help make a significant impact on the lives of many other children. Let's come together this year to make a real difference and create a brighter future for those less fortunate than ourselves. 
 
It was inspiring to see the generosity of Junior 5 and Junior 6 pupils, who will have made a significant impact on others through their contributions to the Foodbank. Their actions embody the essence of kindness and serve as a reminder to us that we need to join together to support those in need. I am sincerely grateful for their support to those less fortunate in the local community. 
 
Due to the recent inclement weather, along with major after-school events this week, we made the difficult decision to cancel some outdoor clubs this week. We remain committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all our pupils, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. On a positive note, I eagerly anticipate hearing about the success of our talented musicians after their music exams today.

We are experiencing an increase in ‘last-minute’ requests for Aftercare places. Whilst we will always do our utmost to accommodate emergency requests, please could I ask that, effective immediately, everyone try to adhere to the strict deadline of 1 pm for booking Aftercare services. We need to adhere to staffing ratios and allow our catering team enough time to prepare food for them. If you have already booked the service for the term but cannot collect your child on a specific day, please inform the office as soon as possible. This way, we can offer the spot to another child. We highly appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

As we approach Advent, we help the children to understand that it is a time for preparing for Christmas, both practically and spiritually. During our RE lessons, drama and assemblies we think about the true message of Christmas.

This year we have decided as a school, to take part in a Reverse Advent Calendar. This is when the pupils and staff each pick a number from 1 to 18 out of a hat. On that day they then bring in either an item of food, a toiletry product or a small toy.

The donations will be collected by the class teachers who will put them in a box in the classroom. They will be displayed at the Advent Mass and the final assembly of the year.

All the donations will be collected and taken to Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick Food Banks to help communities in need. Please check out www.warwickdistrict.foodbank.org.uk to find out more.

Our Stars of the Week this week are:

Congratulations to them all!

As part of the school’s sustainability activities, this year, Crackley Hall School has introduced an Eco Club. The club was initially offered just to Key Stage 1 children and has provided like-minded pupils the opportunity to talk, learn about and get involved with eco activities.

Mrs Van Zyl and her team of young eco warriors have been meeting after school every Tuesday and club members have worked on lots of different eco projects. They have built hedgehog houses and bird feeders to encourage and sustain wildlife, undertaken local litter picking to improve their environment and even made fruity kebabs while thinking about food miles and sustainable production. In the next few weeks they will be working on being a bit more eco-friendly over Christmas. They will be making eco decorations for the Christmas tree and potato printing their own recycled wrapping paper.

It's been a small start but now the club is up and running Mrs Van Zyl is looking at ways to expand it, to engage with and include the older years. Our hope is that Eco Club will help empower our pupils to explore environmental concepts beyond the confines of the curriculum.

Last Saturday, our lovely school was transformed into a 'Winter Wonderland' for the annual PTA Christmas Fair. Families and friends joined us for lots of festive fun, with games and craft on offer for the children as well as traditional tombolas and stalls galore.

Huge thanks to our wonderful PTA and to everyone who helped out or who came along to support us on the day. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves and getting in the festive spirit.

Festive feelings were in abundance on Wednesday at the Stay 'n' Play Christmas Party. There were seasonal crafts and play areas for little ones to enjoy as well as some yummy party food and mince pies.

There was even a special visit from the big man himself, what better way to finish off the party.

Stay 'n' Play returns in the New Year on Wednesday 10 January 2024 - keep an eye out for an email with details on dates for special sessions.

On Wednesday evening, Junior 5 and Junior 6 led our traditional Key Stage 2 Christmas Advent Service. Parents, grandparents and friends were welcomed to Crackley Hall before the service opened with the atmospheric traditional solo verse of Once in Royal David's City.

This cornerstone of Crackley Hall’s festive calendar did not disappoint. Much loved music and prayer, alongside carols, poems and readings, brought families together to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas period.

We were delighted with the generosity and kindness shown by Junior 5 and Junior 6 in their contributions to the Foodbank. It is such a privilege to work together to provide for those in need in our community and to live out our ethos. Thank you for your donations and continued support. Warwick District Foodbank has collected all the donations.

All are welcome to the Princethorpe College PTA Christmas Fair which takes place on Sunday 10 December 2023 - a fun, festive event for all ages including:

Our Christmas Jumper Day this year will be on Wednesday 13 December 2023. On that day, children should wear normal school uniform, but instead of their green jumper, they can wear a Christmas jumper, if they wish. Pupils and staff will also enjoy a Christmas lunch on this day.

Children in Junior 3, 4 and 6 normally wear sports kit on Wednesday, but are welcome to wear their Christmas Jumper instead of their sports fleece - just remember to pack the fleece in their bags for their sports lesson!

A volunteer from Save the Children will be visiting Crackley Hall to speak to the children on this day.

All children from Reception up to Year 6 will hear about the invaluable work that this charity does around the world.

We ask that children bring in a donation of £2 to go towards this charity.

It's time to put on our Christmas jumpers and help children in the UK and around the world get the best future ever. There's more to Christmas Jumper Day than wearing a fun jumper. You'll be helping children facing serious issues like war, hunger and poverty. And this year, with so many children having a really tough time, getting involved matters more than ever.

Our popular Farmers' Networking Supper is returning to Princethorpe College next year on Friday 23 February 2024.

Offering past and present Foundation families who work in or are connected to the farming and agribusiness sector the chance to meet up, foster new connections, exchange ideas and build relationships.

We love to celebrate our pupils' talents, so every week in Celebration Assembly we hear of the childrens' successes and achievements and we watch performances by some of our pupils. Here are photos from this morning.

A huge well done to all!

In their most recent Science topic, Junior 6 have been exploring the effect of exercise on the body. What is our heart rate, and how does it change when we exercise? Junior 6 set out to answer these questions by performing their own experiment. After a short burst of high intensity exercise, we took our heart rate at regular intervals and recorded our results. We then plotted these results into a graph to visualize our findings. Well done Junior 6 - you all thought like super scientists! An extra congratulations for Wednesday evening, you all sang and spoke beautifully.

This week, Junior 5 have continued to work incredibly well, which has included demonstrating brilliant adaptability. As we get closer to Christmas, the children have to adapt to changing timetables and extra school events, yet each and every one one of them take it in their stride, maintaining admirable resilience. In Science this week, pupils learnt about the word absorbency and used scientific equipment to determine which paper towel absorbs the most water. Early reports suggest that the most absorbent paper towel is officially Blitz; there are other kitchen rolls available. Well done to all of the children for yet another amazing week.

After the excitement of performing their year assembly on Thursday - read more about this in the Spiritual section - Junior 4 then had their Roman day. Children came into school dressed in togas and participated in a variety of activities. These included making their own laurel wreaths, designing and planning a year group mosaic wall, and crafting a lunula or bulla. They also made their very own Roman shields during their Art lesson, which were crafted with lightning bolts to signify Jupiter, the king of the Roman gods, and adourned in the red symbol of Mars, the Roman god of war. In Drama we worked together in tribes and acted out the beginnings of the Roman conquest of Britain, debating whether we should surrender or fight the Romans. Well done, Junior 4 - what a busy week we have all had!

Junior 3 have been making the most of our wonderfully refurbished school library. Every Monday we visit the library in groups with Miss Broadbent, clutching the well-thumbed books that we have read that week and are keen to exchange for another one! So many of us have now got into this rhythm of borrowing a book for the week, reading it as an enriching reading experience, then bringing it back to school again every Monday. We are very keen to explore the vast array of books on offer: picture books, chapter books, fiction and non-fiction to suit every reading taste. We have learnt how to behave and conduct ourselves quietly and calmly when in a library, so it remains a peaceful space for others to read and explore books without distraction. We feel very lucky to enjoy this weekly special privilege and it has certainly helped us to further foster a love of books. Thank you to Mrs Steeples for running this wonderful resource.

This week Junior 2 have taken part in their House Unihoc matches. Children showed great camaraderie showcasing intense competition. This brought children together working as a team and fostering a sense of unity and pride in their House. Great job! In addition, Junior 2 have been using their hand-eye skills to create amazing puppets. The children were shown how to use a variety of stitches and created such lovely art work. They are very excited to bring these home as soon as they are finished. 

The elves have arrived in Junior 1! There was huge excitement this week as each Junior 1 class had an elf visitor, keeping an eye on them during this busy time in the run up to Christmas and reporting what they see and hear back to Father Christmas. After they had been named, the classes received a gift from their elf of some candy canes, so they decided to write a letter to say thank you during their English lesson. This led on to writing letters to Father Christmas, asking how he was doing, if he’s ready for Christmas and finally asking for something special from him. Science was also Christmas themed, with every child having the opportunity to make a Christingle. The orange represents the world, the candle is Jesus bringing light and hope to people on earth, the red ribbon is for God’s love and Jesus’ blood when he died for us, and the sweets/fruit represent God’s creations in the four seasons.

This week, Reception are in full swing of Nativity rehearsals! The children have been practising their singing for weeks, singing at the top of their lungs with amazing actions! We have been in the hall to rehearse on the big stage for the first time with Junior 1 and wowed everyone with how grown-up and sensible they were. We can’t wait for everyone to see the show next week!

Another busy week whizzes past in Nursery!

A big hit with all the children has been our activity to make tinkly reindeer rattles out of recycled milk bottle tops. The idea is that the children ring the rattle at bedtime each night, so that by the time we reach Christmas Eve, the reindeer can follow the sound directly down from the night sky.

There are elf and Santa outfits in the home corner, as well as lots of beautiful baubles to hang on the tree, so the children have been making the most of this seasonal joy.

As we continue our Advent journey, we have been reinforcing the fact that even though Santa’s sleigh and a sparkling Christmas tree are great fun at Christmas time, the most important thing about Christmas Day is to remember and to celebrate that baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem 2,023 years ago.

Our set traditional tale during Twinkl Phonic sessions has been the Enormous Turnip, which has provided an ideal opportunity to explore some comparative weight during Mathematics: heavy/heaviest and light/lightest.

On Thursday, Junior 4 performed their class assembly to the school and parents. The theme was Advent and Junior 4 helped to celebrate the spirit of hope, peace, joy and love as we began our journey through this special season. We talked about the meaning of Advent, and how John the Baptist called people to prepare the way for the Lord. We also looked at how different cultures celebrate Christmas throughout the world, and we talked about Operation Christmas Child. Junior 4 shared their hopes for the future and also explained the Year for Prayer which we are now in. We even managed to sing Away In A Manger and Feliz Navidad!

After learning about the special people who lived during Jesus' lifetime, Junior 2 have been talking about Saints in RE - the special people who lived after Jesus' death. We learnt a lot about different Saints and how they are excellent role models at teaching people to live lives of goodness. Each group chose a Saint, shared their Saint's prayer and told us facts about the life of their Saint. They included St Therese de Lisieux, St Bernadette, St George, St Patrick, St Mary and St Nicholas. Needless to say, Saint Nicholas was a very popular choice!

During the Monday Mission assembly, Mr Duigan introduced the first candle on the Advent wreath. Togeter with pupils in Junior 6, he talked about the season of Advent being a time of preparing ourselves for the anniversary of the birth of Jesus. Pupils suggested this could also mean a time of being organised, of thinking ahead and of being ready. The shape of the wreath was also explained as being a circle to represent God's love for us, which will never end, and the green leaves representing life everlasting. As the Hope candle was lit, we celebrated the Hope we have in Jesus. 

Mr Duigan then explained that in preparation for the 2025 'Pilgrims of Hope' Jubilee, Pope Francis has designated 2024 as a Year for Prayer, which started at the beginning of Advent. During this year, we are encouraged to deepen our commitment to prayer and to accompany others in their own prayer life, as well as going back to basics to reflect on how and why we pray.

Please note, Wednesday 13 December will be the last swimming lesson this term for Junior 3 and 4.

Swimming sessions for Junior 3 and 4 will begin again next term on Wednesday 10 January 2024.

A group of Junior 3 girls spent last Thursday afternoon at a hockey festival at Warwick Prep School. They were due to play outdoors on the astroturf but due to the freezing cold weather conditions, the tournament was played indoors.

The team played four games that were only six minutes each way so they had to make sure they were completely focused on the task in hand right from the first whistle!

Their first match was against Cardus School. Poppy immediately applied pressure to their defence and the team swiftly scored their first goal! The goals came thick and fast from Charley, Fiorella and Xanthe. Crackley won 5-0.

The second match against King Henry’s was more closely matched. After some excellent link up play by Sloane and Ashleigh, the girls managed to score a goal. On the final whistle King Henry’s scored a somewhat dubious goal with their foot which wasn’t recorded so the final result was a 1-0 win.

Their third match was against an all-boys team from Arnold Lodge. Despite some crunching tackles, our girls kept up their winning streak and beat Arnold Lodge 2-0.

The last match was against Kingsley. The girls dominated the game from start to finish, scoring six goals in total. Harriet and Laura did a fantastic job of protecting our goal which resulted in yet another clean sheet. The final score was 6-0.

Not only did the girls play some excellent hockey, but they demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship. They were true representatives of Crackley Hall School. Well done U8s!

'Tis the season to Lego build and what a season it has been in Lego Club! With Christmas just around the corner, the excitement of what Lego we would be building on Christmas Day was exhilarating to say the least! We were full of Christmas cheer, especially when we had an unexpected visit from Santa on his Lego sleigh with reindeer figures helping to speed up Santa with hasty acceleration! Loaded with gifts galore including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and Vet City, we excelled in opening up the remainder of our Advent calendar.  Remember, the closing date for the Lego Sleigh competition is Thursday 14 December!  Happy Lego designing and building everyone!

Reminder - due to the nights drawing in, and with the safety of the children in mind, the following after school Sports Clubs now finish at 16:15.

Could we please request that children are collected promptly at 16:15. If you require Aftercare from 16:15, please notify the school office no later than lunchtime on that day.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Thank you so much to everybody who came to our wonderful Christmas Fair on Saturday, so many happy smiling faces were wonderful to see. Lots of festive games went down well, as did the mulled wine and mince pies! We were delighted to see faces full of wonder in the grotto and really appreciate all of your positive feedback.

Huge thanks to everyone who donated raffle prizes and the grotto tree and last but not least, their time. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We think we have made the best part of £2,000 towards the new climbing wall on the playground - great news!

The Crackley Hall Junior Da Vinci programme encourages all pupils to be inspired to be the best that they can be. The Junior Da Vinci programme embraces three adapted principles - Creativity, Practice and Mastery - that the children demonstrate in their learning.

This year we are ensuring that all pupils in the school have opportunities to achieve Junior Da Vinci awards. The attached leaflet gives more information about this programme.

If you require either permanent or occassional Aftercare for the new Term you will need to book in your intentions by emailing aftercare@crackleyhall.co.uk or receptionist@crackleyhall.co.uk with as much notice as possible to ensure the children attending receive tea.

If you have booked an Aftercare session, it would also be helpful to let your child know.

Please also note that permanent bookings are only valid for the term, due to club and activity changes.

Any children who are not collected from carline, for example if parents are stuck in traffic, will be taken to Aftercare at 4:15pm, when carline finishes and charged accordingly.

Aftercare runs from 3:45pm until 6:00pm, with charges being £5.00 per hour or part thereof.

Childcare vouchers can be used as payment or part payment for Aftercare.

The school office closes at 4:30pm, please call Aftercare directly on 07732 036625 if you need the staff after this time.

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally. 

When collecting in the afternoon, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, please ensure you have notified the School Office by email/telephone no later than lunchtime that day. If you would like alternative collection arrangements to be permanent, please can you notify the School Office by email.

Could you please regularly check all uniform and sports kits at home– if it does not belong to your child, please return them to the School Office as soon as possible.
