Welcome to The Chronicle, Crackley Hall School's e-newsletter.

What excitement we had today when Reception welcomed important visitors all the way from the North Pole and in all the other classes who have special seasonal guests too!

In school it has been as busy as always, with Junior 6 very much enjoying their enrichment activities, so do read on to find out what the children have been up to.

Tomorrow, we have the PTA Christmas Fair to enjoy and we look forward to seeing you there.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

The sight of the school building and its grounds after the early frost on Monday was simply breathtaking and the children luck enough to use the forest school area were thrilled to have the chance to explore the frosty wonderland outdoors.

It was super to see so many parents and staff members supporting Mrs Olden and the Crackley Choir at the Christmas light switch on in Kenilworth old town last Friday. The performance was appreciated by so many people, not only during the evening but also over the weekend, with numerous compliments pouring in. It fills me with immense pride when our pupils perform, and it is truly inspiring when others, unconnected with the school, recognize their talents. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Olden for her exceptional efforts in preparing the children for the light switch on and for her unwavering commitment in helping them prepare for their music exams this week. She is an excellent music teacher and dedicated to the music profession.

In the Monday Mission assembly, Mrs McAloon reminded us of our unique talents and the importance of letting them shine bright. She drew inspiration from the teachings of Jesus, , the Light of the World and that we should never hide our own light away. From Nursery to Junior 6, each student shared their talents and how they could use them to brighten the world around them. By using the Crackley Compass and living by our school Ethos, we can all let our light shine even brighter. So, let's embrace our talents and shine our light wherever we go, especially for the good of others.

The Junior 6 pupils recently completed their post-examination curriculum enrichment week with great enthusiasm and enjoyment. They participated in a variety of exciting activities to celebrate their hard work, including the much-awaited annual Junior 6 'bake off' competition. The students displayed their creativity, turning it into a rather sticky affair. The winners, Seb R, Finley and Jamie, along with the runners-up, Seb B, Josh, Fergus and Ted, are deserving of all the accolades they received. The school applauds all of our Junior 6 pupils for their dedicated involvement. Congratulations to all of them!

All families of the J6 children who took the Princethorpe entrance examination may have received their results this week. It's time to celebrate their efforts and hard work and let go of any nervousness or pressure that they may have felt along the way. Congratulations to everyone for giving their best and striving towards their goals.

Our phenomenal PTA has been working tirelessly this week to make the School Christmas Fair a day to remember. With something for everyone to enjoy, we can't wait to see you there and share in the festive spirit. To help make the day as pleasant as possible, please park on the school field. This not only reduces congestion in the residential area but also ensures an easier arrival and departure. We are truly grateful for the hard work and dedication of Mrs Gordon and her team, including staff, in bringing this joyful celebration to life.

As we enter a season that often sees many colds, bugs, and illnesses, it's important for us to remember that we're all in this together and that we can work together to keep our children and staff healthy. If your child has recently been sick (nausea/diarrhoea), we ask that you keep them home for 48 hours after the last episode before returning them to school. By doing so, we reduce the risk of spreading illness to others and protect the well-being of our entire community. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe and healthy environment for everyone.

Christmas is a special time at Crackley Hall School, and we're excited to announce that our Christmas Post Box is now available. We love receiving Christmas cards, but to ensure that all of them are delivered to the intended recipient, please put them in our special Christmas post box. You'll find the post box at the Gables entrance from Monday 4th December. All cards must be submitted before Friday 15th December. The Junior 6 elves will sort the cards and hand them out to pupils before the end of term. Please write the full name of the child and their form on the envelope to avoid any confusion. Thank you.

As we enter the season of Advent, we strive to instil in our children the true meaning of Christmas - a time of spiritual and practical preparation. Through RE lessons, assemblies, and drama performances, we inspire them to reflect on the joy of giving and the importance of kindness. This year, our school is taking part in a Reverse Advent Calendar, encouraging pupils and staff to share the spirit of generosity by offering food, toiletries, and toys. These contributions will be collected and displayed at the Advent Mass, and then donated to local food banks to help those in need. By coming together in this way, we hope to spread the warmth and love of the holiday season to all.  For more information, please use the following link www.warwickdistrict.foodbank.org.uk

Please continue to help the school concerning parking in the vicinity of the school, or on site; also, with regards to the approach to School and in helping to ensure the smooth flow of our car lines. Together, we can promote a peaceful and harmonious environment for all parents, staff, and residents. I’d like to kindly remind everyone that our accessible parking space is reserved for permit holders. There may be exceptions, but these would not be for regular use, other than permit holders. For more details on collection and drop-off, please refer to the piece later in The Chronicle.

We were treated to an array of talented musicians and singers at this morning’s assembly – congratulations to the Orchestra and to Dia; all were fantastic!  Well done to our Stars of the week: William and Mikaeel – Nursery; Alexander and Sophie – Reception;  Marie and Harper - J1;  Grace and Basile - J2; Theo and Joshua - J3; Thomas and Una - J4; Evie and Gwen - J5;  William and Josh - J6. Congratulations and please keep up the efforts and enthusiasm.

Well done to all our pupils for their hard work this past week! We are proud of your dedication and commitment to excellence. We also want to express our appreciation to our staff for their hard work and commitment to a busy term, and to our parents for their ongoing support and understanding.

As mentioned, we have many exciting events, activities, and surprises planned, thanks to the hard work and planning of our parents and staff. We are grateful to everyone involved for their dedication and effort in making our school a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Our sports teams have done exceptionally well over the past couple of weeks, and it was lovely hearing pupils and staff report back on their achievements this morning.

Don't miss the chance to be a part of tomorrow's Christmas Fair. It's not just about having fun; it's about coming together as a community. Let's make this event a memorable one by showing our support. I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Enjoy a weekend full of happiness and relaxation.

God bless
Rob Duigan

Important Information

Reverse Advent Calender

As we approach Advent, we help the children to understand that it is a time for preparing for Christmas, both practically and spiritually. During our RE lessons, drama and assemblies we think about the true message of Christmas.

This year we have decided as a school, to take part in a Reverse Advent Calendar. This is when the pupils and staff each pick a number from 1 to 18 out of a hat. On that day they then bring in either an item of food, a toiletry product or a small toy.

The donations will be collected by the class teachers who will put them in a box in the classroom.  They will be displayed at the Advent Mass and the final assembly of the year.

All the donations will be collected and taken to Kenilworth, Leamington and Warwick Food Banks to help communities in need. Please check out www.warwickdistrict.foodbank.org.uk to find out more.

Donations particularly in need are:

Long Life UHT Milk
Washing up liquid
Male & female deodorants
Shower gel
Packets of instant mash
Tinned vegetables
Jam
Toothpaste

Please do not send in these items if at all possible:

Dried pasta
Baked beans
Soup
Tea

Thank you for your support.

Christmas Post Box 2023

We love sharing Christmas cards here at Crackley Hall School but we ask that all cards are put in our special Christmas postbox which we will situated in the Gables entrance from Monday 4 December.

All cards must be in before Friday 15 December so they can be sorted by the Year 6 elves and handed out to pupils before the end of term.

Please remember to include the full name of the child and form on the envelope.

Thank you

Christmas Jumper Day

Wednesday 13 December 2023

Our Christmas Jumper Day this year will be on Wednesday 13 December 2023. On that day, children should wear normal school uniform, but instead of their green jumper, they can wear a Christmas jumper, if they wish. Pupils and staff will also enjoy a Christmas lunch on this day.

Junior 6 Enrich Their Science Studies With Dissection

During Activities Week Junior 6 enjoyed enriching their Science learning with a little dissection. In groups they examined hearts and whilst there was some initial revulsion, that was rapidly replaced with fascination as the children got hands on exploring the ventricles and valves. It was really interesting for them to see the organs in real life after studying them in their lessons and they were able to link their theoretical studies to the reality of how the organs work. It was a great reinforcement for their learning. They were all so engaged. Well done, Junior 6.

Christmas Tree Festival At St Nicholas

The 14th annual St Nicholas Christmas Tree Festival took place last weekend and Crackley Hall once again entered a tree, with this year's theme on sustainability, a topic close to our school's heart. Children sent in their homemade decorations and Head of RE, Mrs Forino, took the tree over on Thursday last week. There were a whole array of designs, from simple to elaborate, traditional and creative.

We hope you had the chance to go and visit and enjoy all the trees. All proceeds from this years’ festival will be given to Flourish - a Christian based charity who support girls aged 11 – 18 years, nurturing self-esteem and mental wellbeing within Warwickshire.

Crackley's Carols Entertain At Kenilworth's Light Switch On

Crackley Hall's Choir and Choral Group came together last Friday evening to deliver a marvellous medley of magical Christmas carols and seasonal favourites to help celebrate Kenilworth Old Town's Lights switch on.

Happily, the weather stayed dry, and the children galloped through their set list to the crowd's obvious pleasure. A polished performance and rousing finish was capped by the traditional countdown.

Said a delighted Mrs Olden, “It was so good to see pupils and families enjoying the music and this is always such a great way to start the Christmas preparations.”

A big thank you to Mrs Olden and her team for creating such a heart-warming start to advent.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

This week Junior 6 have been off timetable doing all sorts of exciting things as part of their Activity Week. It hasn’t just been fun and games though, the children have worked so hard trying a variety of new skills such as baking. The children even got to experience a dissected heart up close and some were even brave enough to hold an eyeball! Well done Junior 6, you showed great resilience and worked so well together throughout this week.

Junior 5

This month, Junior 5 have been supporting our local community through bringing in donations for the Food Bank. They have brought in a variety of items such as: pasta, chocolate, tinned vegetables, soups and more. We are all proud of Junior 5L for their generosity and willingness to give. Fantastic efforts have been made to support our community. Well done to all who have brought items in.

Junior 4

This half-term Junior 4 have been investigating the various characteristics that living things have as they have been learning about how to classify using a scientific method.  First they had a go at identifying the animal which was being described. They worked with a partner to try and identify the animal - was it a vertibrate, a carnivore, a mammal, warm-blooded? They used these yes or no questions to classify the animals to create a classification key, which led to having one living thing in each group.

Junior 3

This week Junior 3 have been mastering the terrific three times table. We have built arrays, spotted patterns, sang songs, and made up three times tables number stories. All our hard work culminated in working together across both classes to create a 3x table Array City. Each building was numbered with a multiple of 3, and the windows formed an array to match. We think our city looks fantastic and it certainly helps us to visualise our three times tables facts.

We have also continued loving learning about Kenya and even did some dressing up in Kenyan cloth and Maasai beads while thinking about the Kenyan character Lila in our story. We are looking forward to writing our character descriptions later this week.

This week, children have been busy practising for the nativity; what a showcase it will be! In Science, we have been finishing off our module on squash, twist, bend and stretch and no better way to showcase these skills than by designing a helmet for an egg! We thought carefully about the materials that we would use and what shape it needed to be. It was so much fun testing out our helmets. In English, we looked at the different features of a letter before writing our very own letter to Father Christmas. We loved reading their kind words and how grateful they are for any gifts that they might receive. Well done, Junior 2.

Junior 1

Now that we have all eaten our magic chocolate coins from Jack’s mother, we decided to write our own version of this well-known tale. The children loved thinking about alternative characters, what there could be instead of magic beans and what could grow instead of a beanstalk. We had some fun new ideas, and everyone enjoyed sharing their stories with their classmates. In Science, we looked at different sources of light to decide whether they were natural or manmade, lots of discussion ensued about whether fire was natural or manmade? There were surprising results when we looked it up! Our Maths lessons this week have been all about exploring tens and ones. Recognising that a group of ten is just one ten and using this knowledge to write ‘teen’ numbers. It is a harder concept than you may think. Thank you to everyone who has brought their Nativity costume into school, the excitement is beginning to appear!

Reception

As we rapidly approach Christmas, Reception children have been learning all about the season of preparation, Advent, in their RE lessons. This week they made a beautiful Advent Wreath together and the children learnt all about the four candles, and what they represent: Hope, Love, Joy and Peace.  It was lovely to listen to them chat about how they are all preparing at home for Christmas, getting decorations ready, eagerly waiting for Day 1 of the Advent Calendar, and making plans to see friends and family. As we get the Elf out, and decorate the tree in our classrooms, we will also be thinking about the true meaning of Christmas, and how many people are not as fortunate as we are and we are truly appreciative of your support with the Reverse Advent Calendar. We are of course looking forward to the best start to Christmas of all and to seeing you at the PTA Christmas Fair on Saturday!

Nursery

This week in phonics the children have been learning the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have provided lots of opportunities to retell the story and to act it out with their friends, both inside the classroom with little characters in the Small World tray, and in the outside area, using masks and building materials.

The children have collaborated with a partner to fashion piggy houses from straw, sticks and wooden blocks (in the absence of bricks).

As December tiptoes in, we have also begun to make some Christmas crafts and seasonal surprises with which to treat you.

The stage for the school Christmas performances has now been installed in the Hall, so next week we are hoping to practise our Little Nativity in situ, which will be very exciting for the children. Thank you to all those who have already sent in their child’s costume in named bag.

Spiritual

Monday Mission Assembly

Ms McAloon led the Monday Mission assembly and spoke about using our gifts and talents which God has given to us and letting them shine out for all to see. Ms McAloon talked about when Jesus was explaining about all of us being the light of the world and if you light a lamp, it is to find our way through darkness.  In the same way, we should let our light shine. Examples were given from each year group of their talents from Nursery through to Year 6. We can also let our light shine through using the Crackley Compass and by living out our school Ethos. Pupils were asked how they would let their light shine even more brightly this coming week.

Reception Learn Aabout Advent

In RE Reception have been finding out about Advent.

They learnt that the period of Advent was all about waiting, and getting ready for Christmas and we looked at Advent wreaths, before cutting and sticking our own Advent wreaths into our books.

Cross Country Club

Wednesday was a beautiful afternoon for cross-country club. We were a few regulars down but that meant these five worked extra hard, all of them completed two laps, with some doing three and Arthur in Junior 6 running a record four laps, which is roughly 4km!

They certainly make an impressive line up for the upcoming cross country season!

Junior 3 Try Out Tag Rugby

Junior 3 pupils took part in a Tag Rugby Festival this week against lots of other local schools. The tournament took place at Kenilworth Rugby Club on Tuesday 28 November.

Both boys and girls played a high standard of tag rugby with plenty of confident running and passing and lots of unbridled enthusiasm. Despite the cold weather, a fun time was had by all, the smiles of the children showing just how much they were enjoying taking part. It was fabulous to see all five of their matches played in the true spirit of the game of rugby.

Crackley had lots of success, with both the teams winning their respective finals clearly demonstrating the ever improving tagging and defensive line, and their running angles and support in attack.

Congratulations children – you did Crackley proud!

Lego Club

Lego Club were bringing some festive cheer this week as we eagerly prepared for Santa Claus coming to town in his very own Santa’s sleigh in readiness for our Lego Club Sleigh competition. Whilst we were busy tweaking our designs, we also wanted to celebrate Walt Disney’s 50th anniversary as we created Cinderella’s Castle, complete with pearlised golden tower tops, opalescent blue rooftop cones and a vintage-style Mickey Mouse minifigure. We even had DISNEY expertly crafted out of Lego bricks! Top all this with a raffle prize of a Lego Advent minifigure, we were already absorbed into the Christmas spirit in preparation for our Christmas Fayre!

School Drop Off And Collection Arrangements

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally.

When collecting in the afternoon, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, please ensure you have notified the School Office by email/telephone no later than lunchtime that day. If you would like alternative collection arrangements to be permanent, please can you notify the School Office by email.

If you are unsure or wish to clarify any points, please call the School Office.
