Helping our NHS Heroes

Crackley Hall staff and pupils have recently been working hard to help support NHS workers by making use of their crafting skills.

Lorraine Dyer, Headmaster’s PA, joined a Facebook Group established by local midwives to make items such as scrub bags and ear protector headbands. The group based in Solihull began with just a few members but has now grown to over 1,000. Other similar groups have now been set up across the country.

Isabella Downes-Black, a Junior 4 pupil at Crackley, has been cared for in school over the Easter holidays as her mum is a critical worker and whilst in school has also helped to cut fabric for the bags.

Lorraine told us, “Staff have been very kindly donating fabric to help us with our efforts. I dropped off 32 bags yesterday and have another 40 cut and ready to sew. I’m also making headbands so that their ears get a break from the masks.”

Also using her sewing skills to help frontline workers is Old Princethorpian, Kellie Sweeney (1988-1990). Kellie is a member of another Facebook group called Warwickshire Scrubbers, which was set up two weeks ago to create mainly scrubs, bags and caps for local hospitals. Kellie has been working hard producing colourful headbands and scrubs mainly for Warwick Hospital. The group continues to look for resources such as local sewing help and fabric.

A big well done to everyone involved. These simple items help to make a very difficult job a little bit more comfortable.

If you would like to get involved, links to both groups can be found on Facebook.

Easter Bonnet Parade

We wanted to share this charming video created by Reception parent, Mrs Mauxion, of children from our two Reception classes taking part in their very own Easter Bonnet Parade.

We’re sure you’ll agree that they have all created a stunning range of seasonal headgear that makes us feel like spring has really sprung!! Mrs Glen-Roots and Mrs Convey are both super impressed!!

Bilton Silver Band Entertain Us With Do-Re-Mi

We just had to share this joyful video rendition of Do-Re-Mi from the Sound of Music by the fab Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band, put together by Princethorpe and Crackley peripatetic brass teacher and Old Princethorpian Jodie Fisher.

With social distancing putting paid to their normal rehearsals they came up with this imaginative way of bringing them all together to make their fantastic music and everyone smile.

The video also features Jodie’s mum and fellow brass teacher Di Fisher, who teaches at the Crescent and you might be able to spot a few more familiar Foundation faces too.

We think you’ll have to agree they are brilliant and make a cracking sound!!

@Parenting@Princethorpe Twitter Feed Reminder

The Foundation’s senior school Princethorpe College has set up a Twitter account to provide helpful advice and guidance to parents of pupils at the school.  Much of the advice is not specific to secondary aged children so we are inviting all members of our wider school community to follow the account.

Run by Princethorpe College’s Deputy Head Pastoral, Mrs Beth Sharpe, it is sharing information and links from a variety of official sources and includes useful learning resources as well as advice to keep us all mentally well and safe.

Search for @Parenting@Princethorpe to follow the Twitter account.
