The Chronicle

Welcome to The Chronicle, Crackley Hall School's electronic newsletter.

What a beautiful sunny week it has been. It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying lessons outside and having fun in the sunshine at break and lunch time.

Thank you to all who supported the Skipathon, we look forward to seeing how much the children manage to raise.

Our cover photo this week is from the Easter Production - well done to all involved.

Have a lovely weekend.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

How lovely this week has been with the sun shining! In this penultimate week before we break up for a well-earned holiday, we have enjoyed the usual high level of activity taking place in school.

We invited Junior 5 parents and guardians into school on Monday to discuss options for the next stage of their education. It is important that everyone is aware of the available options open to them. Thank you to everyone who attended; please do feel that you are able to approach me, or any of the relevant staff should you have any further questions. I would be only too pleased to help you if I am able. Thank you to both Mrs Lammas and Mrs Vaughan for the work they have done prior to, and after, the meeting.

Junior 3 enjoyed a superb day at PGL Boreatton Park on Monday. The day begun as very misty but soon turned into a lovely dry, sunny day. The pupils loved the activities on offer and gained so much from their experience. My thanks go to all staff who accompanied the trip, Mrs Copland, Mrs Wildey, Mrs Hill and Ms Osborn.

Our First Holy Communicants received the Sacrament of First Reconciliation on Tuesday, which is a special moment on their spiritual journey. They will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion in a couple of months’ time. Please keep them in their prayers on their journey of faith. Thank you very much to the teachers who are helping to prepare the children, including Mrs Forino and Mr M Duigan. My sincere gratitude is also extended to Fr Kevin for his support and guidance throughout. It was wonderful that family members and classmates were able to be there on Tuesday to support the pupils.

The annual Interschool’s Cross-Country event was attended by no less than 10 local primary schools this Wednesday. The afternoon was a mixture of shorter relays and the 1500m course, which included a few obstacles – just to add to the fun. The Junior 5 and 6 children performed to the best of their ability; well done to all involved and participated and congratulations to Leo for winning his race. Thank you to all the staff who helped in any way and, in particular, Mr Vaughan for his organisation of the event. I would like to extend my thanks to the members of Kenilworth Runners who volunteered to help on the day, as well as to our PTA members. I am sorry that I was unable to attend due to a meeting.

Juniors 3 and 4 were on stage, giving an outstanding performance in their Easter Production on Thursday. It was wonderful to see the acting, singing and full engagement with enthusiasm and passion, you were all amazing. Thank you to Commodore Warner, one of our Trustees, who came to watch the show and who thoroughly enjoyed himself. Undertaking a show like this takes a lot of time effort from the pupils, who were the definite stars of the show, but for the staff who are devoted and are always driving up standards and levels of enjoyment in this area of school life. Thank you to all staff, but especially Mrs Olden and Mrs Wildey.

The week ended with the Grand Final of the Key Stage 2 Crackley Connect House Quiz. Well done to Mars House, who came out Champions, and to all the contestants who made it through the two rounds to the final. My thanks are extended to the staff who helped and, in particular, to Mr M Duigan for initiating, planning and organising the quiz.

Congratulations to this week’s Stars of the Week: Nursery – Emelia; Rec – Freya and Hendrix; J1 – Bandile and Henry; J2 – Otto and Orla; J3 – Dottie and Elliot; J4 – Charlie R and Laura; J5 – Hugo and Alfie; J6 – Leo and Diya. Well done to all those who received Lamda and music certificates, to those who were awarded Crackley Compass stars and those who received their Da Vinci certificates.

Please refer to the articles regarding non-uniform day next week. I wish our Junior 5 children and staff an enjoyable time at their residential from Monday to Thursday.  My thoughts and prayers remain with our families who are recognising Ramadan and Lent.

I wish everyone a happy and restful weekend.

God bless,
Rob Duigan

Junior 3 Had A Great Time At PGL Boreatton Park

Junior 3 had a super time at PGL Boreatton Park. Our young adventurers enjoying plenty of challenges as they took part in exciting activities at their rural centre located in Shropshire. They had a great day building their problem solving and team working skills, taking on challenges that required planning, good communication and quick decision making.

They all enjoyed the Sensory Trail where they negotiated a series of obstacles blindfolded with other members of their group for guidance. Then, the Giant Swing proved the ultimate test of nerve. Harnessed into a swing, the other members of their group hauled them up to 10 metres into the air, before a pull on the ripcord sent them plummeting earthward.

Well done everyone you were amazing and many thanks to the staff who supported the day.

Pupils Make Their First Reconciliation

On Tuesday, the eight children making their First Holy Communion attended St Augustine's Church in Kenilworth for their First Reconciliation.

The service coincided with the Feast Day of the Solemnity of the Lord, a day that commemorates Mary's faithful 'Yes' to God, and Fr Kevin, who led the service, reminded the pupils that they could look to Mary for guidance to remind them of this special occasion.

Parents, grandparents and Junior 3 watched as Edward, Grace, Lucas, Matteo, Mikaela, Orla, Oscar and Vincent took this important step in their spiritual development.

The service concluded with Fr Kevin presenting each of the candidates with a crucifix, a symbolic gift meant to remind them of the spiritual journey they have begun.

Crackley Hall’s Junior Schools’ Cross Country Challenge

Crackley Hall was excited to welcome Year 5 and Year 6 pupils from local primary and independent schools on Wednesday 26 March for a Junior Schools' Cross-Country Challenge. The event took place on a beautiful spring day out on the sports field at Crackley Hall School.

The children were all keen to compete and ran with plenty of energy and enthusiasm, demonstrating determination and perseverance as they wound their way over the obstacles and round the 1500m course.

The U10 Girls’ race was the first to get going and it was a close matched affair. Dixie Grammar took overall first place, with Park Hill Juniors second and Twycross House third.

The U11 Boys were next, with pupils giving their all and showing fabulous team spirit. Harry was second across the line to take individual second but the whole Crackley team ran well and secured team first place. Dixie Grammar placed team second and Park Hill Juniors third.

The U11 Girls showed grit and determination. Fantastic running from Scarlett saw her finish second overall, Park Hill were team first, Clinton second and Twycross third.

Finally, in the U11 Boys’ race the runners set off at a fast pace. Leo and Ryan ran a determined race, and their perseverance helped them claim individual first and second place respectively. They helped Crackley Hall to team second place with Clinton finishing first overall and Twycross third.

All the individual races were followed by the Relay Race, a fun participation focused event where teams of four competitors ran a shorter course.

Crackley Hall’s teams all ran well with pupils claiming second place in both the Girls’ and Boys’ race. The House results were announced in assembly.

We were delighted to welcome British Olympic and Commonwealth athlete, Jo Wise, to kindly present the certificates at the end of the afternoon’s fun.

A huge well done to everyone who took part we are very proud of you all, not only for your resilient running but also for your support of one another cheering and encouraging all the runners along.

Many thanks to Princethorpe’s young sports leaders who attended the event, running as hare to guide the competitors, directing the runners on course and manning the finish line.

It was a super afternoon of cross-country fun.

Take a look at our socials here for clips of the event.

Pupils Deliver A Moving Retelling Of The Easter Story

Pupils in Junior 4 and Junior 3 took to the stage yesterday evening to perform Hosanna, a simple but dramatic mini-musical that portrayed the intrigue and emotions of the Easter story. Junior 4 performed on stage with Junior 3 provided the supporting chorus and it was wonderful to see the children throwing their hearts into the performance and bringing the story to life. From Palm Sunday, through the Last Supper and the betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane, to the trial and crucifixion and finally the resurrection, pupils carried the narrative with emotion and passion.

Together they delivered a moving production, full of expectation, disappointment and ultimately joy, messages well worth reflecting on as we approach the Easter break.

Congratulations to all the pupils on a brilliant performance and thank you to the staff for all their hard work putting the show together.

We hope you enjoy these photos from the dress rehearsal earlier in the day.

PTA Non-Uniform Day

There will be a non-uniform day on Thursday 3 April.

There will be a non-uniform day on Thursday 3 April with a donation of £2 being added to the school invoice for next term, this donation will be split with £1 going to the PTA and £1 to the charity chosen by the School Council.

Crackley Hall has a long-standing tradition of raising money for various charities each academic year. One of the ways we do this is by holding non-uniform days once a term, where pupils may donate £2 for the privilege of not wearing school uniform that day.

Pupils are not compelled to participate in non-uniform days and may choose to wear normal school uniform if they wish. Pupils who do wear non-uniform will be expected to make a £2 donation for this privilege.

Note that pupils who are marked as absent from school on this date will not have the cost added to next term’s bill.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Wednesday 9 April - 2.30pm and 4.00pm and Thursday 10 April - 2.30pm and  4.00pm

As part of the Foundation's drive to increase non-fee income, our Commercial Enterprise Team are delighted to be hosting LOL Theatre Company's lovingly adapted production of The Tale of Peter Rabbit in The Clarkson Theatre in the run up to Easter.

When young Peter Rabbit disobeys his mother and enters the forbidden garden belonging to Mr McGreggor, he indulges himself with lettuce, green beans and radishes, however he soon starts to feel sick and goes in search of some parsley to soothe his stomach ache. Who does he encounter when he ventures further into the vegetable patch? None other than Mr McGreggor himself! After a frantic chase, he loses his clothes and his sense of direction. Will Peter Rabbit escape Mr McGreggor's clutches and return home unharmed? More importantly, will he learn his lesson and listen to his mother's warnings next time? Let's hope so!

This 45-minute family friendly production is based on the classic short story by Beatrix Potter and teaches about the importance of listening to warnings, doing the right thing and facing the consequences of your actions. Recommended for ages 4 and above.

This enchanting theatre show brings Beatrix Potter’s beloved characters to life! This is a public performance and all are welcome.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

Our Junior 6 scientists have swapped Kenilworth for the Galápagos Islands this week as they investigated Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. They learnt that he explored thediversity of finches on the Galápagos Islands. Darwin’s theory proposed that these finches, though sharing a common ancestor, had evolved diverse beak shapes and sizes in response to the different food sources available on the various islands. Junior 6 donned their investigative hats and researched this subject. They then were given the choice of producing a fact file, a podcast or a vlog sharing their findings. As usual, the children rose to the challenge and created some amazing work.

Junior 5

Junior 5S had a very productive couple of lessons in their Art topic of The Tudors this week. We have been thinking about how the Tudors came to power in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth when Henry Tudor defeated the much-maligned King Richard III. Henry married Richard’s niece, uniting the white rose emblem of York with the red rose emblem of the Lancastrians forming the great Tudor Rose. Pupils learnt the art of printing using this design, carefully pressing into the block so as to be deep enough to make an impression, but not too deep that they punctured it! We hope you like the finished results as much as we did!

A wonderful Easter holiday visit to the Richard III visitor centre in Leicester is a MUST!

Featured Image

Junior 4

Junior 4 has successfully completed their exciting topic on Electricity! As part of their learning, they engaged in a hands-on practical activity where they designed and created their own switches for simple electrical circuits. Working in small groups, the children experimented with various materials to determine which ones made the most effective switches.

In addition to this, they have been diligently rehearsing for their Easter production. We hope you enjoyed their superb performance on Thursday evening.

Junior 3

Junior 3 had such a wonderful day at PGL Boreatton Park on Monday, that they couldn’t wait to discuss their experiences back in the classroom. We talked about the journey there and back, the activities at the Centre and, of course, lunch! We put these parts of the day into chronological order to help us structure a recount of the trip. Before we started to write, the children shared their knowledge of the features of a good written recount so that they all knew what to include in their writing. The children quickly got to work and wrote their recounts of the trip in their neatest, joined up handwriting. At the end of the lesson, the children had opportunities to edit their work, then mark it against a copy of the success criteria in their books. The best part was swapping books and marking each others’ as they love playing at being teacher!

Junior 2

Junior 2 have been learning all about measures in their Maths lessons this half-term. We have measured length, mass and capacity and have had great fun learning to use all the different measuring apparatus. We know the difference between centimetres and metres, grams and kilograms and millilitres and litres. It has been so much fun exploring measures and thinking about how these skills help us in our everyday lives.

This week, we also took a virtual trip to Shanghai, meeting Zhe Wen and finding out all about her daily life in China. We were amazed at how many different activities she did from learning to play cello, to making model airplanes, and even learning how to write in calligraphy. We had a go with some digital calligraphy, and it was really tricky. We wrote ‘Fu’ which is the Chinese character for ‘Good Luck’. We are lucky enough to have children in our class who have travelled to, and lived in China, and it is wonderful to hear their stories too. We also wrote Happy Mother's Day in Mandarin for our precious mummies for Sunday, and we hope you all enjoy your special day.

Junior 1

As we come to the end of the Lent term, Junior 1 have been working hard in English to explore different adjectives to help add detail to their sentences and to use this to help retell the story of Where The Wild Things Are. In Computing, they have also been writing sentences, this time they were trying to use their touch-typing skills! After typing out some sentences using a capital letter and full stop, they then had the opportunity to change the font, size and colour of the words. To help finish off our topic on the United Kingdom, in Geography, everyone was given a map of the UK and they had to work out, using a compass, which direction they would travel in if they went from one city to another. While in History, after comparing ways in which we travel nowadays to the past, they all had the chance to draw what they think transport will look like in the future. Junior 1 would like to thank a parent for their generous donation of sports bibs and paint pallets.

Reception

This week, Reception have been busy learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They had a go at writing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, remembering the order of everything the caterpillar ate. We have been most impressed with the quantity of writing they are now able to produce with very little support.  In Maths, the children have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes, sorting, describing, and creating their own pictures and models with them.  On Wednesday the children had great fun jumping, hopping and skipping to help raise sponsorship money for Mary's Meals. The children have also been busy working on some special surprises for their Mothers on Sunday. Mum's you are in for a treat!

Little Crackers

A Week In Nursery

This week, our Dormice have been busy developing their fine motor skills through a variety of fun and educational activities. One of the highlights was sorting cotton buds into cardboard tubes based on their colours. This activity not only helped the children practise their colour recognition but also improved their hand-eye coordination and precision. Additionally, they used tweezers to transfer pom poms from a tray to a bowl, which further enhanced their dexterity and control.

In our PE sessions with Mr. Vaughan, the focus was on developing gross motor skills. The children engaged in a range of movements including walking, marching, jogging, and running. They also had a great time jumping around and in hoops, which helped improve their balance and coordination. Outside, they enjoyed rolling tyres and jumping off crates, which added an element of adventure and excitement to their physical activities.

On Tuesday afternoon, we had a special celebration for Mother's Day. We invited all the mothers to join us for an afternoon filled with fun activities and delicious cake. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to show their appreciation for their mothers and spend some quality time together.

Badgers and Hedgehogs welcomed our beloved visitors by singing two Mother’s Day songs and then we gave a big ‘shout-out and wave’ to those working mums who had kindly sent in their photographs, so that they could be ‘included in spirit’ for our celebration.

The children led their own mum or grandma from table to table, sharing craft activities with the special ladies in their life. They made ‘Queen for the Day’ crowns sprinkled with glitter; they crafted daffodil flowers; they made a Mother’s Day card or bookmark. Some children took their mums on an adventure to show off their individual pieces of work on display, as well as to share how they are now able to organise themselves independently each day via peg, drawer, water bottle station, and self-registration board.

The Badgers and Hedgehogs had undertaken a mammoth Bakeathon session to produce enough iced muffins and syrupy flapjacks for every parent and every child in Nursery. Phew! All washed down with a nice cup of tea or coffee.

Following refreshments, the children gathered together once again and mummies arranged themselves around the viewing gallery, to listen as the children performed their very own ‘Daffodil Song’. Each verse was suggested by the children themselves, as a direct result of their careful observations of the plants during our recent Science and Art lessons.

Finally, each Badger and Hedgehog presented their mummy with a real daffodil and a handprint bouquet to take away.

It was such a joyous afternoon, as our classroom was filled with the tinkling tones of happy chatter and heartfelt smiles. We extend our best wishes to you and to your families over the coming Mother’s Day weekend.

Trinity Term - Summer Uniform

When we return to school after the Easter Holidays, all children are to wear their summer uniform.

Please see below for details of this.

General Uniform

As previously communicated, from September 2024 the current boys' and girls' uniform was replaced with two uniform options, simply named 'Uniform Option 1' and 'Uniform Option 2'. The two lists contain the same uniform items as they previously did. Children and families can choose which of the two options is right for them.

These changes brought us in line with the other schools in the Foundation, as well as many other schools around the country who have adopted a similar approach.

One possible outcome of this change, was that girls may wear trousers rather than the skirt or pinafore.

Summer Uniform - Option 1

Black school trousers or knee length school shorts (NOT cargo style) with standard white white shirt and tie, black school socks, jumper and blazer.

Summer Uniform - Option 2

Reception to Junior 4 - summer dress, white school socks, jumper and blazer.

Junior 5 - either summer dress and white school socks or tartan skirt with white revere collar blouse (no tie), black school socks, jumper and blazer.

Junior 6 - tartan skirt with white revere collar blouse (no tie), black school socks, jumper and blazer.

Hair

Hairstyles and colours must be suitable for school and natural in colour. All long hair must be tied back using suitable hair accessories in burgundy or black. Hair accessories can be purchased from the Uniform Shop and the School Office.

Make Up and Nail Varnish

Make up and nail varnish must not be worn.

Earrings and Jewellery

Earrings and jewellery must not be worn.

Foundation Uniform Shop

The Foundation Uniform Shop is open from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, Monday to Wednesday during term time, and by appointment only during the school holidays.

Please call directly on 01926 634272 to make an appointment or alternatively email uniform@princethorpe.co.uk

The Crackley Hall Junior Da Vinci programme encourages all pupils to be inspired to be the best that they can be. The Junior Da Vinci programme embraces three adapted principles - Creativity, Practice and Mastery - that the children demonstrate in their learning.

This year we are ensuring that all pupils in the school have opportunities to achieve Junior Da Vinci awards. The Da Vinci leaflet gives more information about this programme.

We have moved away from termly and half termly JDV challenges and are using a monthly theme to suggest activities to challenge and interest pupils. Each month different activities will be suggested. Pupils do not have to complete all, or any of these activities. They are available to all pupils in all years, so pupils can choose to investigate something that they are interested in. Bring any examples of activities that have been completed to Mrs Cowlishaw to share with the whole school.

Please see here for March's challenge.

Look out for news of the children achieving Junior Da Vinci's in the Awards section of the Chronicle over the year.

Warwickshire Police - Parking Notice - Reminder

Dear Parents

The school has been contacted by Warwickshire Police and the road safety education team, regarding unsafe and inconsiderate parking at school drop off and collection particularly when there is an event on at the school.

We would like to remind all parents of Crackley Hall School that the parking restrictions outside of the school are there to help keep you and your child/ren safe.

Yellow Zig Zag Markings

The School Keep Clear Markings outside of your child’s school create areas that must be kept clear so that children and young people can see clearly when crossing the road.

These markings indicate the part of the road where drivers should not wait, stop, or park their vehicle.

Vehicles must not be parked, even for a few minutes, on the School Keep Clear/Yellow Zig Zag markings.

Junctions

Vehicles must not be parked within ten metres (25 feet) of a junction.

White Zig Zag lines

Vehicles that park on WHITE ZIG ZAG lines are liable to get a fine of £100 and three points.

Park and Stride – The Field

The school is lucky to have use of the Field as an overflow car park as a park and stride location when events are held at the school.

Please do use this car park and help make the area near and around the school a safer place for your child/ren.

To help keep your children safe, the police will be conducting patrols around the school sites focusing on parking. They can issue tickets for parking which causes an obstruction to other drivers or pedestrians.

Let us all work together to keep our children safe. Thank you.
