Dear Parents 

The weather had a notable impact on our sports fixtures this week, making challenging to complete all our fixtures. The temperature dropped significantly compared to the previous week. However, despite the cold weather, the week was filled with lots of exciting moments and memorable experiences that made it all worth it. 

I am deeply saddened to share with you the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our former pupils, Viranchi. I understand that many of you are already aware of this tragic news, and my heart goes out to all of you who have been affected by this loss. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mrs Hill and Mrs Duigan for representing the school and me at Viranchi's funeral and memorial service yesterday. It was heartening to see some of Viranchi's former classmates from Crackley Hall also present to pay their respects to this wonderful young man. Viranchi's parents are understandably devastated, and we cannot begin to fathom the pain they are going through right now, especially since Viranchi left them at such a tender age. We all remember Viranchi fondly, with his school, sports, and violin bags, and a huge smile on his face. He was a kind, compassionate, and ambitious young man who dreamed of becoming a better cricketer, which he accomplished with some very good scores for his local club. It's a sad time for everyone who knew him, and we will always remember him with love and fondness. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with Viranchi's family and all of you during this difficult time.  

It was lovely to witness that Junior 2 children have revelled in the wonders of Forest School this week, they have immersed themselves in an enriching learning environment. Surrounded by the rustling leaves, towering trees, and the symphony of nature, their curiosity has come alive. Many have used their skills to build shelters, some made ‘chocolate drinks’ using the mud kitchen, some just exploring the natural world, the joy on their faces is unmistakable. In this open-air classroom, they not only have gained knowledge but also developed resilience, teamwork, and a profound appreciation for the beauty that unfolds in the heart of the forest. 

During this period of Lent, let us take time to reflect on the love that God has for us and how we can spread that love to others. It is a time for us to come together and lend a helping hand to those in need. Hence, we kindly request the pupils in Junior 3 and 4 contribute to our local food bank by donating some items. The list of items requested is available in the Chronicle. Let us make a difference in the lives of others and bring a smile to their faces. We would appreciate it if pupils could bring the donated items in by Friday, March 22nd. 

I hope to see many of you next Tuesday and Thursday at the parent-teacher consultation evenings.  However, I kindly request that you park your car in a considerate manner when attending any event at the school. We have received several complaints from the residents about cars obstructing driveways and paths, which is causing inconvenience to them.  

On Thursday, March 7th, we will celebrate World Book Day. We invite everyone to dress up as your favourite book character and participate in fun activities throughout the day. You will also receive a book voucher to use at a bookstore! 

On Saturday, March 9th, we will be hosting our Nursery and School Open Morning. This is a chance for prospective parents to visit Crackley Hall School, which has been rated 'Excellent' in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. Thank you to all pupils who have offered to help on the day. 

On Tuesday, March 12th, we will be holding our annual Skipathon. This is a great opportunity for all students to hop, jump, or skip for charity and raise funds for the Air Ambulance. You will receive sponsorship forms to collect money, which should be returned either on the day of the Skipathon or by Friday, March 15th. Bring your own skipping rope to school on Tuesday, March 12th and let's make a difference together! 

As School will be very busy during the next few weeks and I would encourage you to read the full newsletter every week to ensure you are aware of events. As we approach a busy period in the school calendar, it is important that you stay informed about the various events and activities that will be taking place. Our newsletter provides a comprehensive overview of upcoming events, including important dates, deadlines, and any relevant details you need to know.

Congratulations to them all!

It’s the Save the Children Spring Fayre on Saturday 9 March and Crackley Hall’s School Council will be having a stall. The children will be selling the perfect Mother’s Day present – beautiful spring flowers potted carefully into a mug.

Today at lunchtime, the school council welcomed Monique, a Save the Children volunteer, into school to help prepare the plants to sell. They carefully filled mugs full of compost before planting them with spring flowers. The older children helping the younger ones with the task. The mugs all looked so beautiful we are sure they will fly off the stall.

The fayre is a lovely event, with lots of super stalls and coffee and cake too. So why not support the school council by popping along to St Francis of Assisi Parish Centre next Saturday 9 March from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Pupils from Princethorpe visited Crackley Hall School on Friday 1 March to complete a biodiversity survey with Eco Club. The visit was part of a project to collect biodiversity data at all three of the Foundation school sites to support our commitment to improve sustainability.

The visitors included members of the Princethorpe Planet team as well as Sixth Form Biology students. They worked with Eco Club pupils using square frame quadrats to record species. They surveyed a number of different areas within the school grounds and recorded the data. The plan is for the survey to be repeated at regular intervals to allow the schools to understand and track biodiversity.

It was especially lovely to be able to welcome back some former Crackley Hall pupils!

We are sorry to share the sad news that former pupil, Viranchi, who completed Junior 6 here in July 2014, very sadly recently passed away.  Viranchi was a wonderfully kind pupil whilst at Crackley Hall, and was Venus House Captain. 

His parents are, naturally, devastated and we cannot imagine what pain they are going through at this time of immense loss, particularly with Viranchi leaving them at such a young age. We all remember Viranchi so fondly, lugging his school bag, sports bag and violin case around school, always with a huge smile on his face. He was never unkind to anyone.

He dreamed of being a better cricketer, and certainly achieved this, with some good scores for his local club.

It is such a sad time for everyone who knew him and we remember him most fondly. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The British Science Week 2024 poster competition is open now!

The theme this year is ‘Time’, and there are loats of STEM topics pupils can explore! Students could create a poster showing how a certain type of technology has changed over time, or even the advancement of time-telling technology itself. Budding poster makers could also go futuristic and show us how they think the world might look in years to come, or perhaps look at nature – lifecycles, lifespans, evolution and hibernation – nature is full of timely topics.

British Science Week 2024 marks the Week’s 30th anniversary, with the inaugural celebration happening in 1994. Students could think about scientific innovations since then, or explore 1994 itself – what was life like 30 years ago?

Judges will be looking for:

• Creativity in approach – Innovative angle on the content or creative interpretation of the theme – don’t be afraid to think outside the box
• Content – Clear, accurate and informative about a STEM topic
• Effective communication – presented and communicated in an engaging way

Members of the British Science Association will shortlist entries, and a panel of judges will select a winner in each category. 

All entries to Mrs Roberts - posters should have a name, age and our school neatly written at the back of them.

Entries to be handed to Mrs Roberts by Monday 25 March.

Now in its sixth year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–19 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7 March. Children and staff will be dressing up as their favourite character from a book. There will be lots of fun activities on the day and the children will all receive a book voucher to redeem at a bookshop. Please put the date in your diaries.

We are holding a Nursery and whole school Open Morning on Saturday 9 March. Come and find out why Crackley Hall School has been judged 'Excellent' in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. It's a great opportunity for prospective families considering Crackley Hall School or Little Crackers Nursery to come and have a look around and get a feel for the Nursery and school. There will be opportunities for visitors to speak to pupils, key members of staff and to meet Mr Duigan, Headmaster.

On the morning of Tuesday 12 March, all children in school will be taking part in our annual Skipathon.

We love to celebrate our pupils' talents, so every week in Celebration Assembly we hear of the childrens' successes and achievements and we watch performances by some of our pupils. Here are some photos from this morning.

A huge well done to all!

In English this week, the children began looking at The Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. During their first investigation into Pullman’s fantasy novel, the children began to discover all about Lyra’s strange world and the Daemons that exist in it. We looked at how, in our own work, we can use sophisticated linguistic techniques, such as expanded noun phrases to add pertinent and precise to elevate our writing. Well done Junior 6 - you approached this new topic with enthusiasm and curiosity. We can’t wait to hear about your own daemons next week! Keep up the hard work!

This week, amongst the onslaught of rain, Junior 5 enjoyed learning about the lifecycle of a plant. To support their learning, they dissected a flower and learned the names for the key parts of the reproduction process. Once again, they continue to work like bees, buzzing from topic to topic and engaging positively with every lesson. They have much to be proud of and we have been very impressed!

Continuing with Junior 4's Anglo Saxon theme, in Art the pupils have been working on designing and making their own Anglo Saxon jewellery. The Anglo Saxons wore jewellery, including amulets, talismans, brooches, beaded necklaces and bracelets, made from gold, silver, bronze and copper and they were worn to show their wealth and rank. The pupils made their own authentic piece of jewellery, first out of clay complete with decorations and gems and, further into the term, they will be using pewter. 

On Friday, Junior 3 took part in a creative carousel of hands-on learning through practical activities all about Ancient Egypt. From making their own shaduf, used to irrigate crops from the River Nile, to writing their names in hieroglyphics on real papyrus, to making their own Lego, and then paper pyramids, the children were very busy! The children recorded their learning by photographing each creation, and then creating a mini-report using the microphone or video tool in Seesaw on Ipads. It was a very exciting history lesson!

We started a new book in English this week – Where The Wild Things Are. What a fabulous book it is! We retold it with actions, created a story-map and wrote a letter to Max asking him questions about his adventure to help us practise using question marks and setting a letter out correctly. Geography was a hit too as we looked at all things English. After having ‘Afternoon Tea’ with tea and scones, we found out that St. George is the patron saint of England, our flag is a red cross on a white background and when King Charles is staying at Buckingham Palace he flies the flag to let us know. Maths was equally interesting as we learnt how to use a ruler to measure and draw lines in centimetres, while over in Science we learnt about minibeasts and how to classify them using a key.

This week in Reception we talked about Nocturnal animals… and how they come out at night when we go to sleep. Our story was The Owl Babies and we really enjoyed retelling the story with puppets, and then sequencing pictures and writing sentences in our books. Our Art lessons were ‘owly’ too – we created some fabulous collage pictures of owls after choosing and using lots of different media. Our other job this week has been getting ready for our Mother’s Day Assembly, we can’t wait to share everything with you – and look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday morning.

Our Dormice have been exploring colours this week, using different objects and puzzles to explore and learn. The egg sorter was a favourite amongst the children, pracitising good hand-eye co-ordination and colour identifying, introducing 'light' and 'dark' shades of blue. Wooden puzzles were also available to assist those early skills in recognising shapes, which help children when they start learning to read.

In Badgers and Hedgehogs we focused on Rainforest creatures, going on a Grand Tiger Hunt during Forest School. The vertical stripes camouflaged those prowling tigers very well between the trees and branches, so most of us would have quickly become a tiger’s dinner for sure!

In the Outside Learning Area the children practised making dens and hides to observe the jungle animals and all the colourful birds.

Our small world tray also transformed into a mini rainforest, complete with giant spiders, slithering snakes and a plethora of wildlife.

During Music, the children joined in with a drum concert, which was great fun and got everyone’s hearts racing.

PE involved a carousel of apparatus. Hedgehogs and Badgers were introduced to new pieces of apparatus called wobble boards, which really tested their balance.

Elena Fernandez-Lee, the Education Manager for the Fairtrade Foundation, led the Monday Mission Assembly online for the whole school.  She talked about Fairtrade supporting farmers for the last 30 years in Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. Fairtrade is about better prices, safe working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. Mention was made of climate change having an effect on the availability of bananas, chocolate and coffee due to natural disasters such as floods, land slides and droughts. 

We can all help by choosing Fairtrade products whenever we can and telling others about Fairtrade. When we shop, just look for the Fairtrade Mark as there are over 6,000 Fairtrade products available to choose from.  We wouldn't work for £1 a day - so why should these farmers and workers?

We are mega excited to get this going after the success of the Kenilworth Town Juniors Lionesses Cup in December (played by Year 5 & Year 6 primary schools).

KTJ is a true community club and we welcome girls to come along, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to play football (and netball!) in a super fun and safe environment, with top quality coaching!

Forest School Club for Years 3 and 4 takes place on Tuesday lunchtimes providing a natural, active, outdoor experience that supports children's wellbeing and independence. Pupils enjoy being creative and imaginative in our very own Windmill Wood. This week, they were building dens and an outdoor kitchen and using their imaginations to re-create fictional stories.

For the First Time in Forever, we decided to Let it Go and build our own castles in Lego Club, and with the weather becoming colder, we decided to set the scene for Disney’s Frozen by recreating moments from this epic film. With our imaginations spiralling into frozen fractals, we thought about the grand ice palace having a sliding bridge, a snow fort, a revolving staircase and an outdoor playground for our very cold pets who wanted to Build a Snowman! With our beloved minifigures watching in dreaded anticipation on the sidelines, wondering if Love is an Open Door, we tried to turn our favourites of Captain America, Harry Potter, Batman and Darth Vader into Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Marshmellow, which went down like a  thunderous snowstorm, with Batman, in particular, kicking off about becoming Olaf! Not discouraged by this impetuous outburst, we managed to add even more sparkle and Let it Go with an array of robots, spaceships, missiles and Batmobiles soaring into battle with Elsa and Anna. Thankfully, with magic in her hands, Queen Elsa saved the day with her mystical powers by turning our exasperated Batman into a playful reindeer. Lovely! Hope you managed to spot the songs?!!

200 Club

However, we understand that sometimes one accessible parking space may not be enough on event days. If you require an additional accessible parking area, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Any children not collected from the carline, for example, if parents are stuck in traffic, will be taken to Aftercare at 4:15 pm, when carline finishes and charged accordingly.

Aftercare runs from 3:15 pm until 6:00 pm, with charges being £5.00 per hour or part thereof.

Childcare vouchers can be used as payment or part payment for Aftercare.

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally. 

When collecting in the afternoon, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, please ensure you have notified the School Office by email/telephone no later than lunchtime that day. If you would like alternative collection arrangements to be permanent, please can you notify the School Office by email.
