Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

Another busy week has flown by and, even in the midst of the chilly weather, the children have been able to appreciate the beauty of the stunning skies during the morning and evening hours (and some blue skies during the day). It is wonderful to see them admiring the natural beauty around us.

Some major roadworks will be taking place from 12 February to 1 March. These works may affect your daily commute to and from school. Dalehouse Lane, between Common Lane and Stoneleigh Road, will be closed during this period. You can find a detailed map of the road closure, along with the signed diversion route, in the Chronicle.

The school was full of excitement on Monday after the incredible performances at the annual Young Voices event on Friday. The pupils put in a lot of hard work and dedication to prepare for this event and showcased their talent through songs such as "In the Mood", "The Moment", a medley from "Matilda" and a mash-up from "Moana" among others. On the night of the event, they were treated to outstanding performances from renowned drummer and international celebrity Nandi Bushell, soul singer/songwriter Natalie Williams, and Jacob Mitchell, also known as MC Grammar - a multi-award-winning teacher turned rapper. It was an unforgettable event for everyone involved and a celebration of all sorts of music that will stay with them for a lifetime. Thank you to Mrs Olden and all the staff who accompanied the pupils.

On Tuesday, the whole school came together for Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. Led by Father Kevin and Junior 6V, we were reminded of the gift of life and the world around us. It was a beautiful and inspiring Mass and I’d like to thank Fr Kevin, Mrs Olden, Mrs Paphitis, Mrs Forino, the J6V pupils and all other staff members who helped in preparation or during Mass.

In some of our drama classes this week, the pupils of Junior 4 delved into the work of Christian Aid, exploring the organisation's efforts in helping individuals impacted by climate change worldwide. They uncovered the impacts of climate change on people and skilfully crafted a story through mime. Starting with the problem, they progressed to the cause, effect, solution, and concluded with an ideal world. Witnessing these young pupils’ profound understanding of climate change and their ability to apply it in an academic setting was impressive.  Well done, J4!

Imagine landing the lead role in a pantomime! That's exactly what Felix Hughes achieved this week. Felix secured the principal role of Wishee Washee in Theatre Parade's production of Aladdin. Congratulations to Felix for this incredible achievement!  The show promises to be a fabulous family performance, and we urge everyone to come out and support Felix as he takes centre stage on Saturday 3 February at The Bridge House Theatre, in Warwick.

Jo Merrick, Projects Operation Manager from Helping Hands (Charity), visited Crackley Hall on Thursday to discuss an issue that affects our community – one of homelessness. During her visit, Jo shared the incredible work that Helping Hands is doing to tackle homelessness. Their approach involves providing a "hand-up" rather than a "hand-out," which means empowering individuals to take control of their lives and build a better future for themselves. It's inspiring to know that even small contributions can make a difference in breaking the cycle of homelessness. Jo's visit served as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, kindness, and community. This highlights how we can all make a positive impact, no matter how small, and that together, we can create a better future for everyone. Let's work together to make a positive impact in someone's life by supporting a deserving charity. We are encouraging our pupils to fill two socks with basic necessities, such as shampoo, toothpaste and hand warmers, and contribute to this noble cause. Your small contribution can bring a smile to someone's face and make this world a better place. Let's join hands to make a difference!

Always remember to stay informed and connected with the PTA messages. The PTA Headmaster’s Quiz may have been rescheduled, but don't let that discourage you from participating in this fun event. The Chronicle contains all the details you need to know. The Crackley Hall staff won last year’s quiz and I am certain that our parents won’t want this to happen two years in a row!

Congratulations to our Stars of Week. They are: Nursery - Arjan and Oliver; Rec – Emma and Isher; J1 – Clement and Henry; J2 – Dottie and Lucas; J3 – Sloane and Xanthe; J4 – Alfie and Joshua; J5 – Eleanor and Amelie; J6 Jamie and Elsie.   We were treated to two superb musical performances at assembly – Sherry played ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’ extremely well and Molly’s version of ‘Do Re Mi’ was simply exceptional. Well done to both girls.

Congratulations to our sports teams this week. Do look out for the reports on matches played. I would like to wish everyone a restful and happy weekend.

God bless

Rob Duigan

Helping Hands Community Homelessness Project

Jo Merrick, the Projects Operation Manager from Helping Hands, visited Crackley Hall on Thursday 18 January to talk about homelessness in our community. The charity provides a 'hand-up' not just a 'hand-out' approach, offering a warm meal and someone to talk to, with the aim of helping break the cycle of homelessness.

To contribute to this deserving charity, we kindly ask for children to fill a sock (or a pair of socks) with essential items and toiletries, and bring it to school by Friday 2 February.

Helping Hands Community Project will return to collect the items, which will then be distributed locally to those in need. It is important to note that the essential items can be for either adults or children.

We kindly ask for items such as shower gel, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, small packets of tissues and roll-on deodorant (no aerosols please).

There will be a box in the foyer where children can place their socks.

Thank you in advance for your support in helping this amazing local charity. We believe we can all make a difference.

Two New Faces In The Nursery Team

Nursery parents and children will recognise these two lovely ladies who have slotted in perfectly to our dedicated nursery staff team. Tamika (left) and Charlotte (right) joined us back in December and have been enjoying getting to know all our lovely Little Crackers. They both love life in nursery and especially supporting and encouraging the children with their learning.

A very warm welcome to them both, it's lovely to have them in our nursery team.

Pupils Celebrate Music Exam Success

In last Friday’s Celebration Assembly, the school celebrated another successful round of music examinations and Director of Music, Mrs Olden, and Headmaster, Mr Dugan were delighted to present pupils with their certificates.

Crackley Hall offers peripatetic music lessons on a wide range of instruments and in Singing and Musical Theatre too. This latest set of examinations took place in school in early December with pupils taking Musical Theatre, Piano, Classical Guitar and Cello exams from Step entry level up to Grade 5. 100% of pupils passed with everyone achieving the top grades of Merit or Distinction.

A huge well done to everyone for all your hard work.

Junior 6 Leads Epiphany Mass

Father Kevin joined the school community in celebrating mass on Tuesday for the Feast of the Epiphany - the special day when we think about the visit of the Wise Men to the Son of God. We also thought about our own enlightenment and greater understanding of the gift of life and the world around us. The mass was led by Junior 6V.

During the Homily Fr Kevin reflected on the message of Christmas, which started with three people - Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. We remembered our own families and how we are reminded to always be grateful for the love and care our families give to us. We remembered the Shepherds, who represented God's ancient people, and how ordinary people are important in God's plan, as what we do is precious to God. Finally, we remembered the three Wise Men who came from all different backgrounds and who represented the message of Jesus extending to the whole world.

Father Kevin then invited each of us to think of a gift we could bring to Jesus which would show our love for one another and which would make a difference to ourselves and to the people we meet.

Robotics Lesson Sparks Pupils' Passion for Computing

Our Junior 6 pioneers have been using their Lego and programming skills to build robots in Computing this week. Some pupils finished in record time and started to programme their robots to move and sense the environment around them.

These kits are just some of the recent investments we are making in Departments across the school, to aid pupils' learning with cutting edge technology.

Our Key Stage 1 pupils can look forward to using the equipment to build Lego houses and then use Scratch to programme the rooms inside.

It is all very exciting!

Pupils Help To Raise The Roof At Young Voices

On Friday 12 January, pupils from Juniors 4, 5 and 6 joined thousands of other local school children to sing their hearts out at the annual Young Voices concert at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham.

Pupils had been practising songs in preparation for this amazing annual event, including In the Mood, The Moment, a Matilda medley and a Moana mash-up and many more. On the night they enjoyed watching performances from drummer and international celebrity Nandi Bushell, soul singer/song writer Natalie Williams and Jacob Mitchell, aka MC Grammar, a multi-award-winning teacher turned rapper.

We are so proud of the children's performance and of their parents for cheering them on! For everyone involved it was an unforgettable event, a fabulous spectacle, a celebration of all sorts of music, an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Stay 'n' Play Enjoys Forest Fun

It was wonderful to welcome everyone to our Stay ‘n’ Play Forest Fun session on Wednesday 17 January. It was a bit chilly, but that didn’t stop the youngsters having lots of fun.

Whether exploring amongst the trees, playing in the mud kitchen, on the hammocks, the rope swings or the slide, everyone kept busy to keep their fingers and toes warm.

Forest Fun took place in Crackley Hall’s wood, which is situated behind the school. It was led by our Forest School Practitioners Mrs Clark and Mrs Whitehurst, supported by Mrs O'Brien from our regular Stay 'n' Play team.

Don't forget our next special activity is on Wednesday 31 January when Stay ‘n’ Play will be visiting Little Crackers Nursery.

All mums and tots are most welcome to join us every Wednesday morning from 10.30am to 11.45am. For more information, contact Mrs Jenny Vaughan on 01926 514410 or email staynplay@littlecrackers.co.uk.

Learning In Action

Junior 6

This week in English, Junior 6 have begun their investigation into the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. Written in 1906, The Highwayman is a romantic ballad that tells the tragic story of an unnamed highwayman and his lover Bess. The children read and watched multiple interpretations of the story, paying particular attention to the vocabulary. We thought about how certain unusual, or archaic, words have fallen out of common use in the English language and what new words have been created to replace them. Super work this week Junior 6, well done!

Junior 5

This week, Junior 5 enjoyed immersing themselves in Tudor life at Tudor World learning about Kings, Queens and a particular famous playwright. They even had the opportunity to sniff what the plague smelt like, although we don’t think they’ll be quick to do that again! It was a wonderful experience for all of the children, who have all gained a wealth of Tudor knowledge and, importantly, curiosity to learn more. Tudor World were hugely impressed with the behaviour of all of the children and even more entralled with their knowledge. Well done to everyone!

Junior 4

In Drama this week, Junior 4 have been finding out about how Christian Aid helps people across the world affected by natural disasters due to climate change. We have been exploring climate change through group work as we each told a story in mime about the effects climate change has on people throughout the world.  We started the problem and moved onto the cause, effect, solution and concluded with the ideal world.

Junior 3

This week Junior 3 have been putting their improved knowledge of times tables to good use as we begin to explore multiplication of 2-digit numbers. We are all fantastic at spotting multiples of ten and multiplying any 2-digit number by a multipe of ten, using our known facts. We used place value counters to build arrays and enjoyed capturing our understanding on the ipads, using Seesaw. In our Science lessons, we have been exploring a new topic of ‘Light’ and on Wednesday we completed an exciting investigation to see which materials reflect light well. We really impressed Mrs van Zyl with our use of scientific vocabulary, as well as our teamwork when testing the materials. When we ‘reflect’ on our learning this week, we should all be very proud of how hard we have worked.

Junior 2

Junior 2 have been so excited about our new topic; China. We have introduced a new story which tells a tale about a young Chinese girl who draws beautiful food to help feed the poor. This has encouraged the children to embrace the art of storytelling through their unique depictions of Chinese landscapes. With colourful brushes in hand, they have painted scenes of tranquil blossom trees and ancient mist covered mountains. Through their collective creativity these children have forged a tapestry of wonder, blending reality with fantasy celebrating the rich cultural heritage embedded in China’s landscape.

Junior 1

Our new story Mrs Armitage on Wheels has really caught the children’s imagination this week. We have taken full advantage of the repeating text to enable the children to recall and begin to write sentences independently. Everyone has been super proud of the writing which has been produced! We have also been active ‘Beezley the Bees’ in our Maths lessons with the challenge this week being to relate addition and subtraction number problems; it was very tricky! In our History lessons, we travelled back in time to the Viking period to find out how and why people in the past travelled across the oceans, before making our own Viking long boats. We then ‘flew off’ to Antarctica for Science, to learn about penguins. Did you know penguins also live in burrows in the warmth of the Galápagos Islands? This is just a taste of the busy, hardworking week we have had in Junior 1!

Reception

This week in Reception the children have been exploring 1 more and 1 less in their maths.  We had lots of fun playing a dice game in the classroom, then got our coats on to head outside for a quick game of hopscotch. We noticed that the numbers got bigger when we added 1 more, and we hopped forwards… when we worked out 1 less, the numbers got smaller, and we had to hop back. Luckily all the hopping and jumping kept us toasty warm on such a chilly morning!

Nursery

The Crackley Police Station has been a hive of activity this week, with lots of burglars caught by our budding police constables. Details were logged at the custody desk and the accused were offered time out in the tyre-jails for all volunteer thieves. Our outside area also lent itself to police chases and treasure hunts.

Inside Nursery we have continued our police theme during Maths sessions with lots of subtraction practice: how many jewels have been taken away? Childrren are using some lovely scientific vocabulary - ‘floating and sinking’ arose during this week’s water play, when police divers had to retrieve stolen objects that had been thrown into the river. In our art and craft finger gym, the children were invited to record their fingerprints and practiced scissor skills by cutting out their burglar photofits and then reassembling the pieces onto a ‘wanted’ poster.

Our theme of Baptism has continued during RE and we are all looking forward to the Baptism of one of our own Little Crackers in a few weeks’ time, which is very exciting. So we talked about the fact that the Sacrament of Baptism can also happen at any age and we shared examples of familiar members of school staff who have themselves converted as adults, or whose children were baptised at Nursery age.

In Dormice, continuing with our transport theme, we had immense fun painting with cars and trains, creating track and tyre prints across the tables. It is a wonderfully creative way to help our two-year-olds develop fine motor skills skills and gain a knowledge of the world around them. We also explored parking options with the garage and created tunnels for seeing which cars went down the fastest. We also discovered the tractor was too big to fit down!

Monday Mission Assembly

Mr Cottrill led Monday's Mission Assembly on our reactions when we meet famous and special people for the first time. Some pupils said they would ask for an autograph, and perhaps follow them. This was linked to how John the Baptist was excited about meeting Jesus and how he wanted everyone to know about Jesus and to spread His message throughout the world. The disciples - which means learners - followed Jesus because they were curious and wanted to know more about Him so they could share the news with others. The disciples demonstrated the values of the Crackley Compass because they were curious about Jesus' life on earth and they were enthusiastic and active in telling others about Jesus also.

Lego Club

With the largest children's choir in the world still fresh in our minds, it was showtime in Lego Club this week as we were all immersed in capturing the music again from Young Voices! Are you ready for this? Let’s take it to the street and make a big noise! We made a drum set for our good friend Nandi Bushell, a keyboard, two large amps, mini stage lights to capture the moves of popular rapper MC Grammar, spotlights, a guitar stand and different rotating stages, speakers galore which twisted to reveal gigantic screens. We even developed a cell phone to play music as a backdrop for the star guests, including singer Natalie Williams. With mini-Lego figures queuing up for last-minute tickets, we had standing room only for Darth Vader, Batman and Iron Man – with Where's Wally making a brief appearance on stage and having a bit of a sing song too whilst the crowd were in exuberant mood! School Drop Off And Collection Arrangements

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally.

When collecting in the afternoon, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, please ensure you have notified the School Office by email/telephone no later than lunchtime that day. If you would like alternative collection arrangements to be permanent, please can you notify the School Office by email.

If you are unsure or wish to clarify any points, please call the School Office.
