Dear Parents

As we draw to the end of this school week, I have had a brief opportunity to reflect on the events that have taken place over the last 5 days and this week has been an exceptionally busy one for all staff and pupils at Crackley Hall.

Mr Joe Thackway, the Headmaster of Crescent School, visited Crackley Hall today and enjoyed his time speaking to staff and pupils. It was a pleasure to be able to show him around the school; he was most complimentary.

On Tuesday, Junior 5 and 6 pupils from our Chamber Choir hosted pupils from Crescent School. The day was filled with music and song and the pupils from both schools worked together beautifully, rehearsing, performing, and improvising a mix of vocal pieces. Under the guidance of the Directors of Music, Susan Olden and Julie Barnes, they created something truly special. It was a fantastic day that left everyone feeling inspired and motivated, culminating in a wonderful concert for parents. To watch clips of the children singing some of the songs please click here. It brings me great joy to see the positive response to our previous request for donations for our local Food Bank. It is so important that we support the marginalised in our local community, and we plan to continue doing so through the work of the Food Bank this academic year.  For the month of November, we are asking Junior 5 and 6 pupils to bring in their foodbank contributions. This is an excellent opportunity to show love in action. Kindly bring in your donations during the month of November, and we will bundle together all contributions for delivery on Friday, 8th December. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity.

The Little Crackers children have been learning about kindness and empathy towards others. Their discussions about what it means to be a true friend have been truly inspiring, and we are so impressed at their ability to show so much compassion at such a young age.

Witnessing the pure excitement and enthusiasm of the children in KS1 as they rehearse for the upcoming nativity is also truly inspiring. The joyful echoes of their rehearsed songs fill the air and lift our spirits during this festive period. It’s heartwarming to see the children's dedication and passion as they learn their lines, reminding us all to approach every task with the same level of energy and excitement.

The Crackley Hall Christmas Card design competition is a celebration of creativity, imagination, and the festive spirit. This year's winner, Alex from J5S, captured the magic of the season with a stunning stained-glass representation of the nativity. His design will adorn every card during advent, spreading joy to all who receive it. Alex's talent and vision shone through in a field of high-quality entries that showcased the artistic skills and aspirations of our students. I am proud of all the children who participated in the competition and whose creativity enriched our school community. The Crackley Hall Christmas Card is more than a piece of paper; it reflects the hopes, dreams, and values that we cherish as a community. We want to congratulate not only Alex but also our runners-up Liana (J3W), Isher (RecO), Imogen (J1G) and Tazio (J1G), whose designs will grace the reverse cover of the card. We thank everyone who submitted entries for the CISC Christmas card competition and hope that this experience has inspired them to continue exploring their creativity and making a positive impact in the world.

Yesterday, the Crackley Hall gymnasts showed exceptional talent and dedication at the Midlands ISA Gymnastics competition. They performed two vaults and a set floor routine, impressing everyone with their skills. The Under 11 Girls' Junior 6 Team earned a well-deserved Silver Medal, while the Under 11 Boys' Team brought home the Bronze Medal. Felix H in Junior 5 achieved the Individual Bronze Medal, which was a remarkable accomplishment. Elora H's 9.45 score on the floor was outstanding and she achieved an overall 4th place in the Individual Under 11 Girls' competition. Congratulations to all the children who participated in the competition. Their hard work and determination have made us all proud! Thank you to Miss Whitley for coaching them and to Mrs Ellis for supporting and coaching on the day.

I am thrilled to share the news that Avni D, in Junior 1, has received a Highly Commended award in the Independent Schools Association’s (ISA) National Art Competition which placed her in the top three entrants in the country. This recognition is a testament to the remarkable creative talent of Avni and many of our other pupils, who continue to inspire us every day. We are so proud of Avni for her hard work and dedication, which has resulted in this wonderful achievement. Congratulations, Avni, for your outstanding accomplishment!

Our neighbours have expressed concerns about traffic congestion created by parents who do not vacate the lower car park after dropping off their children. Our goal is to build a safe and welcoming environment for our pupils and parents. By doing so, we demonstrate our commitment to safety, as well as respect for our neighbours and set a positive example for our children. Any interactions with neighbours should, please, always be courteous, even when faced with unpleasantness.

If you are accompanying your child into school, please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. On Assembly Days, please avoid parking your car in the lower playground after drop-off to prevent congestion in the Carline drop-off area. We need this area and space for other families who are dropping off their children. I appreciate your cooperation and good humour and thank you for your continued support in ensuring a safe and welcoming school environment for everyone.

There have been a few recent changes to the Extra-curricular clubs, please ensure you check the Chronicle regularly, so you do not miss out on any changes.

Next week will see preparations increase in pace, ready for the Christmas Fayre and I know that the PTA will appreciate your help with donations to the various collections.  May I remind you that there is a non-uniform day on Friday 1st December and, in return, children should bring in their donations to the fayre. 

If your child is attending the switching on of the Kenilworth High Street lights this evening, please ensure they arrive in full school uniform, ready to start singing at 17:30. Everyone is welcome to attend to support them; and to sing along as well.  The Kenilworth High Street is a spectacle of Christmas stalls, pork batches (and other food) stands and a festive family atmosphere for everyone and I look forward to watching our pupils perform.

Casper (J4) sung so well at assembly this morning and provided inspiration for our younger pupils; many congratulations to him! Well done to all the pupils who were awarded Stars or Da Vinci today – all thoroughly deserved.

I would like to draw your attention to forthcoming events information so that you do not miss any notices that may affect your child. We have so many events at school over the next few weeks.

I really felt for the Indian cricket team who, in my opinion, were the best team at the Men’s Cricket World Cup. They played such good cricket over the whole tournament but were beaten in the final by Australia, who often seem to rise to the big occasion. Well done to them!

This half term, Ms Holmes has set a new art challenge for you to get your creative juices flowing! The theme for this half-term is ‘GIFT’.

You can work in any medium you like (pencil, pen, paint, crayon, pastel, junk box, paper, charcoal) – it’s up to you. It could be 2D or 3D but work should be no larger than A3.

Work should be your own, completed and handed in with your name, year group and most importantly your House, before the closing date.

You can choose what sort of gift it might be. Could be a thing, a person, a pet or something with a religious significance? You choose.

Please deliver any entries to Ms Holmes by no later than Friday 15 December.

Judging will take place during the Christmas holidays and the winners announced in the first assembly back. 25 house points awarded for first, 20 for second and 10 for third place and if you drop us an entry you gain 5 points for your house.

We have received so many lovely decorations for our entry to the Christmas Tree Festival.  Pupils have repurposed items from their recycling and created some amazing decorations.  Please do visit St Nicholas Church in Kenilworth this weekend and vote for our tree!

St Nicholas Church will be open on Friday 24 November until 8:00pm, on Saturday 24 November from 10:00am to 4:30pm and on Sunday 26 November from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Avni, who is now in Junior 1, has been awarded a Highly Commended in the Independent Schools Association’s (ISA) National Art Competition.

Every year the ISA hold an Art competition and Crackley Hall always takes part. It is a great way to celebrate the outstanding artwork produced by pupils across the school. This year, the school had a number of pupils receive recognition in the Regional Final with two, Avni and Amaya, winning their classes and going forward to the National event.

Judging took place in early November and Avni’s striking Barn Owl pastel was awarded a Highly Commended in the Art 2D Individual EYFS class.

Avni was presented with her certificate by Headmaster, Mr Duigan, in Assembly this morning.

This year's winning Crackley Hall Christmas Card design is by Alex from J5S. His stunning drawing captures the spirit of the season through a stained-glass vision of the nativity. The design will feature on the front of every card sent out by the Headmaster this advent.

Mr Duigan commented, "Alex’s design was a clear winner, with strength in its simplicity, but the standard overall was high. I was delighted to see so many entries, well done to everybody who took part."

There was an exceptionally strong field to choose from this year, so our congratulations also go to the children whose designs will feature as cameos on the reverse of the card. Well done to Key Stage 1 winner Liana (J3W) and runners up Isher (RO), Imogen (J1G) and Tazio (J1G).

Thank you to all the children who entered the CISC Christmas card competition, the entries have been submitted to CISC and everyone who entered has received housepoints.

Children from Reception up to Junior 6 have all been taking part in Road Safety Week.

In partnership with Warwickshire Safe and Active Travel, children have learnt age appropriate content, from the Road Safety Code in Reception, to visiting the Scooter Safety Circus in J2 or J5 who were invited to deepen their understanding of distractions and how they can affect our ability to be safe when we are out and about.

On Tuesday 21 November, Juniors 5 and 6 welcomed Years 4, 5 and 6 from Crescent School for a fantastic, full day of uplifting and inspiring music. The pupils from both schools worked together under the guidance of Directors of Music, Susan Olden and Julie Barnes, rehearsing, performing, and improvising a mix of vocal pieces.

It was a very successful day, with everyone really enjoying working together. During the day, pupils worked on songs that included Grow As We Grow, There’s A Power In The Music, In The Mood and Arirang a Korean folk song. They also had great fun singing Naughty from Matilda.

In the afternoon, the pupils put on a concert for their parents. As well as the shared works the concert included a number of individual school pieces and pupil solos. The audience were most impressed with the children’s enthusiastic performance.

Susan Olden, Director of Music, said “Both schools have such a strong musical tradition, and the children really rise to the occasion, it is always good to work together.”

The Junior Schools Music Workshops are just one of the many performance opportunities that pupils at both the schools take part in.

We love to celebrate our pupils' talents, so every week in Celebration Assembly we hear of the childrens' successes and achievements and we watch performances by some of our pupils. Here are photos from this morning.

A huge well done to all!

In our current DT topic, we have been practising our sewing skills. Linking to our history topic, we thought about who in Victorian society would be sewing regularly and what their sewing would be used for. We then set about creating our own sewing samplers showing off our various sewing patterns. Using our binka and embroidery thread, we used a running, cross and half cross stitch along with many other sewing styles. It was brilliant to see the children using all their focus and determination to master these patterns. These skills will be of great use to any children who are interested in becoming tailors or doctors. Well done, Junior 6!

Junior 5 continue to impress us with their growing maturity, responsibility and their excellent attitude towards learning. This week, they have continued to immerse themselves in our new history topic, The Aztecs, learning about Aztec religion and the many Gods and Goddesses that they worshipped. The children then enthusiastically created their own Aztec God or Goddess, using a self-made Pokemon card template. We had Gods of animals, geography, light and even a rather gruesome God of Death, all of whom had their own Aztec style name and appearance, such as Sotatoa and Bitzlepochtli! All of the children have been amazing and should be very proud of themselves.

Junior 4 have been learning about Mount Vesuvius as part of both our English and Geography work. So we decided to make our very own outdoor volcanoes. We dug deep into the soil and placed rocks and leaves around our volcanoes. By mixing together bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, and adding red food colouring, we created a frothy chemical reaction, which erupted and frothed, and we all watched with tremendous excitement!

As part of Road Safety Week, Junior 3 have been learning how to cross a road safely, and just what an important life skill it is! First we watched a video by the Warwickshire Road Safety Education team, showing us how to cross a road safely, particularly between parked cars and junctions, which can be especially dangerous. In particular, we found out that if a motorist waves us across a road, we must wave them on until the road is clear and it is safe to cross. Finally we worked in pairs, sorting pictures and behaviours about crossing roads into ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’. It taught us some clear messages about how to THINK, STOP, LOOK and LISTEN and CROSS SAFELY.

Children in Junior 2 are excelling in rugby where they have demonstrated not only physical skills, but commendable grasp of teamwork and strategic thinking. As they navigate the sports field, these young athletes have showcased their ability to collaborate with their teammates, communicate effectively and make split second decisions which contribute to their success on the pitch. This is an essential skill as we prepare ourselves for KS2.

During English, they have been exploring the realm of poetry to help us with their creative skills and imagination, children have been exposed to a variety of poets and have shown an appreciation of the beauty in words.

They are also bursting with excitement as Mrs Rod and Mrs Olden have started our rehearsals for our upcoming nativity. It is so joyful to see the children learning their lines with such enthusiasm. The echoes of rehearsed songs really lifts our spirits during this festive period.

Junior 1 were very excited to receive some letters form Jack’s mum this week in English. She had been worried about where Jack had gone and Junior 1 wrote back to reassure her that Jack was quite safe, but up a beanstalk! In History we compared how the Victorians took a bath and how often, with our own experiences. There were a few who agreed that once a week would be enough but they didn’t like the idea of being the last in the bath with the cold water. Geography saw us look at how wheat in the field is used to feed us by being turned into flour and then made into food such as bread. This was a lovely link back to the Little Red Hen and everyone remembered all the steps of how flour is made. Lastly, in Maths we finished our topic of shape, creating repeating patterns and predicting what shape would come next.

This week Reception have been finding out about the celebration of Thanksgiving! We travelled to the USA on our maps and thought about how children’s lives there are similar or different to their own. We discovered the story of the First Thanksgiving and talked about how important it still is to be kind to people who are different to us and accept one another. The children wrote some simple sentences about what they are thankful for in their own lives.

This week the children have been learning the story of the Gingerbread Man. They have enjoyed using masks to retell the story outside, and chasing the gingerbread man around the playground. They all got a chance to bake and decorate their own delicious gingerbread men.

In RE this week the children have been learning how they can show love and care towards others. The children have been talking about what a kind friend looks like.

Dormice have been focusing on their Christmas crafts this week, ready to send home. They have also enjoyed joining Badgers and Hedgehogs, practising their nativity songs in the Hall with Mrs Olden. They have all embraced the outdoors and enjoyed clambering over our climbing frame! 

Junior 1 have been thinking about how we celebrate different occasions, at home, in school and in church; with our friends our families and with the wider community.

This week, we thought about how we celebrate ‘Mass’ in a Christian church. We researched the different parts of the outside of a church such as the steeple, the cross, stained-glass windows and the surrounding areas. Children illustrated their findings with a picture of a church thinking about the building materials, colours and textures. Ms Holmes chose a piece that demonstrated the wonderful talent of artistic creativity that God has given.

Mrs Van Zyl led Monday's Mission assembly on the parable of the Lost Sheep.  With a focus on the gospel of St John Chapter 10: "I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."  The special message of the parable was explored and pupils agreed that sheep recognise the important people in their lives and follow them - they would want to follow a Good Shepherd. It was discovered that sheep express their feelings and emotions by using their ears; they have best friends and form close bonds with other sheep in their flock, and they don't always get things right and sometimes they do go astray. Even when a sheep goes missing, a Good Shepherd will look for the missing sheep and love it just as much as he would the rest of the flock. Mrs Van Zyl then introduced Patrick from Junior 4, who lives on a farm and tends to the sheep, and pupils asked Patrick various questions about keeping sheep safe and what does he feed his sheep to keep them healthy. To conclude, the message which we listened to is that God, the Good Shepherd, is trying to tell us that we are all special and that He cares and loves everyone, and if one person strays from the right path, God will always forgive us and welcome us back. God wants us to show kindness and compassion to everyone.

We were delighted with the response to our previous request for donations for our local Food Bank.

We wish to continue to support our local community through the work of the Food Bank during this academic year. Each month a different class will be asked to bring donations for the foodbank. This month, November, we would like to ask Junior 5 and 6 pupils to bring in their foodbank contributions. This is an excellent opportunity to put love in to action.

Weekly Mission

On Thursday 23 November, three teams from Crackley Hall School travelled to Adcote School in Shrewsbury for the Midlands ISA Gymnastics competition. Taking part were over 200 boys and girls competing in the U9, U11 and Over 11 competitions. All the children performed two vaults and a set floor routine.

Crackley Hall’s gymnasts had worked extremely hard to prepare for the competition and performed really well on the day. The U11 Girls Junior 6 Team were amazing and finished in second place overall, bringing home the Silver Medal, while the U11 Boys Team did nearly as well claiming the team Bronze Medal. Felix in Junior 5 was awarded an Individual Bronze, a fabulous achievement, and Elora’s 9.45 score on the floor should be applauded, as it helped her finish 4th overall in the Individual U11 Girls' competition. 

Well done to all the children who took part in the competition - we are so proud of you!

Last Saturday, Crackley Hall's U11 Football Team travelled to Repton Prep for their annual Football Festival. From the first whistle to the last, the children played with admiral determination and excellent teamwork, playing some of the best team football Mr Stedeford has ever seen them play. Their attitude within each match was exemplary – and we were very impressed and proud of all of them!

Why not start the festive countdown by building your very own Lego Advent Calendar?

That’s exactly what we did in Lego Club this week! Packed with inspirational thinking, excitement and wonderful surprises, we decided to base our Calendar on a Star Wars theme. We built a stormtrooper, a Tusken Raider, a starfighter plane with blaster powers, and a festive looking Darth Vader looking less mean than usual dressed up as Santa Claus. Who said Advent Calendars were just made of chocolate?! Some of us were busy at work designing a sleigh for the forthcoming Christmas Sleigh Lego Challenge competition, which we are already looking forward to!

Still going strong on a Wednesday lunchtime! We have had new pupil requests this half-term for mermaids, dinosaurs, a unicorn and Batman!

Please note - due to the nights drawing in, and with the safety of the children in mind, the following after school Sports Clubs now finish at 16:15.

Could we please request that children are collected promptly at 16:15. If you require Aftercare from 16:15, please notify the school office no later than lunchtime on that day.

Please also note, Hockey Club on Monday will continue to run from 16:00 - 17:00 (Collection will be at 17:00 from North Leamington School or at 17:30 from Crackley Hall).

Raffle tickets came home this week. From Lego to experience vouchers, there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs. Please fill in the stubs and return them to school with the requisite money in a sealed and named envelope so they can be entered into the draw. If you have any spare raffle tickets please return these to the school office.

Friday 1 December will be a non uniform day. In exchange for non-uniform please send your child with either chocolate or a bottle (depending on year group) for our very popular chocolate and bottle tombola.

Soft Toys: we are happy to rehome teddies and other cuddly friends for our teddy tombola. Please place these in a bag and leave in the reception foyer for PTA collection.

Unwanted and unused gifts: We hope to run a ‘secret’ parent gift stall where children can shop for parent presents and have us wrap it for them. For this we need any unwanted and unused gifts you may have. For example unopened soaps, toiletries, good quality ornaments etc.

Finally, if there are any bakers out there, we would very much welcome any home made (nut free) cakes/cookies/mince pies. Your home-made goods will be gladly received on Friday 1 December non-uniform day prior to the fair.

Parent Stall volunteering - we are delighted to say that we have a fabulous band of merry parent helpers running the class stalls and the children are very excited in anticipation of our Christmas event built around them. Thank you so much for your support to make it a lovely afternoon for everyone,

If you require either permanent or occassional Aftercare for the new Term you will need to book in your intentions by emailing aftercare@crackleyhall.co.uk or receptionist@crackleyhall.co.uk with as much notice as possible to ensure the children attending receive tea.

If you have booked an Aftercare session, it would also be helpful to let your child know.

Please also note that permanent bookings are only valid for the term, due to club and activity changes.

Any children who are not collected from carline, for example if parents are stuck in traffic, will be taken to Aftercare at 4.15pm, when carline finishes and charged accordingly.

Aftercare runs from 3.45pm until 6:00pm, with charges being £5.00 per hour or part thereof.

Childcare vouchers can be used as payment or part payment for Aftercare.

The office closes at 4.30pm, please call Aftercare directly on 07732 036625 if you need the staff after this time.

When dropping off in the morning, if you are using carline, please move round the roundabout before dropping off and do not leave your car unattended. Carline can cause traffic issues on the Kenilworth Road, so please be mindful.

If you are dropping off and wish to walk your child up to the school or are coming into school please use the Lower Playground or the Sports Field. Please remember to park considerately as parking is at a premium.

We would ask that if you use the lower playground at morning drop off, that you leave the school site promptly, as parking is at a premium, and it has been causing traffic congestion.

Please do not park on the Grasscrete Parking area or on the left hand side when you enter the school main carline, as these are both staff parking areas.

Where possible, please avoid parking on the local residential roads, and if you do, please park considerately and legally. 

When collecting in the evening, please adhere to the collection times, as if you arrive too early, this causes traffic congestion. If you are early, we would suggest parking on the Sports Field and walking up to school.

Please ensure that all items of school uniform and sports kits are named.

Could you please regularly check all uniform and sports kits at home – if it does not belong to your child, please return them to the School Office as soon as possible.
