Headmaster's Welcome
Dear Parents
It is with great sadness that I begin our first Chronicle of this year as we join with the rest of the UK, the Commonwealth and the world in mourning the death of Her Majesty The Queen. There has been, as expected, extensive media coverage but families will know intuitively what to share with their children. I was able to speak with the majority of children today in assembly and many parents and staff members were also present. Class teachers will be talking to children during the course of the national period of mourning to reassure them and help them understand what is being discussed around them.
We will share news of any planned commemorations or services that will take place in school and will deal with this sensitively but will also celebrate the legacy of an inspirational monarch and leader who dedicated her life of service to her country setting an example to us all. We send Her Majesty’s son, King Charles III, and his family, our condolences and our best wishes and prayers as he begins his reign.
A Foundation decision was taken not to send the usual Chronicle this week and stories of interest and any relevant news items will be carried over to next week.
I have enjoyed seeing the children return to school and settle in their new classes. Whilst I am not sharing the usual celebrations and news this week, I would like to emphasise the importance of some housekeeping matters.
- When collecting your child from school, please arrive at the correct time, in the allocated place to ensure that all children can leave school safely and in a timely manner. Failure to observe the arrangements will result in delays to children being collected, congestion on the Coventry Road and upsetting the local residents.
- Whilst we have mostly returned to a pre-covid school environment, we do have a member of staff who has a case of Covid in the family. She did not attend school today. If your child has any Covid symptoms, please try to help keep everyone safe and minimise the spread by keeping your at home whilst displaying symptoms, particularly if they have a temperature.
- Please would parents use the school fields for parking when attending meetings and assemblies during school hours.
I would like to congratulate our Stars of the Week, those who received Da Vinci awards and also those pupils who received Lamda or music certificates. I am delighted with how well you have all performed.
Special congratulations are offered to our new pupil leaders and Captains. A full report on this, along with names and photographs, will be published in next week’s Chronicle.
Thank you very much to all my staff for their fantastic efforts in helping the pupils settle in this week. I am also grateful to all our parents for their support and understanding as everyone familiarises themselves with new routines and expectations.
I wish you all a very peaceful and relaxing weekend with your families.
God bless
Mr Duigan
