Welcome to the final edition of The Chronicle this academic year.

What a busy end of term it has been for us all. We have especially enjoyed welcoming all the children back into school these last two weeks.

We wish Junior 6 the very best of luck as they move on to secondary school and hope that everyone has a happy and successful summer holiday.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Welcome

Dear Parents

This is the final Chronicle for this term.   It has been the most unusual term of my teaching career but even through this most difficult time, I have been astounded at the way that the children, parents and staff have managed to learn and love throughout.  I would like to thank so many today but it would be impossible to list you all individually so I will at least attempt to make a collective thank you.

Thank you to the children, who have been simply amazing and hardworking with their online learning and adapting to the ‘bubbles’ when they have been in school.  Thank you to parents, for continuing to support the learning and understanding the pressures we have faced during the term.  Thank you to my staff, the teachers, teaching assistants, office staff and caretaking staff have all played their part in ensuring that we can function and provide for the children as much as possible.  They are all in need of a much-needed break now so that they can return re-charged in September.

Sadly, we say goodbye to Mrs Tanya Hill, Mr Charles Lamprecht and Mrs Margaret Spillane and we wish them well for the future.  Mrs Malcolm will also be leaving us for a while as she begins her maternity leave.  We will of course keep you updated with regards to the exciting news of the arrival of baby Malcolm.   Thank you to our wonderful PTA who have supported us throughout the year.  We say a huge ‘thank you’ to Mrs Farquharson, Mrs Blenkinsop, Mrs Dhillon, Mrs Wasley, Mrs Hutton and Mrs Fox, all of whom have served on the PTA for a number of years and I am hugely grateful to their organisation of events, co-ordinating of fund raising and general support.  Hopefully we will be able to welcome some new members to the team in September.  Thank you to Mrs Lamb and her wonderful team for all that they have done.

There has been much to celebrate in school this week.  Move up morning was held on Wednesday and this was an opportunity for children to meet their new teacher, including Mrs Faye Burley, who will be teaching in Junior 4.  Junior 6 have enjoyed their last week at Crackley and although there were tears this afternoon, it reflects how important Crackley Hall has been, and will always be, to them.  The pupils have so many memories, even the children who have not been at Crackley for as long as others.  I hope that they enjoy looking through their yearbook, re-watching the videos and telling their families about everything that has been special to them during their time here.  If you would like to watch one of the fun highlights of the Junior 6 events this week, please see their page later in the Chronicle.  It has been my pleasure knowing every one of our leavers and I know that they will continue to flourish on their educational journey.  I ask that all Junior 6’s please keep in touch and I would love to hear how they enjoy Year 7.  Thank you to Mrs Horan and Mrs Vaughan, in particular, and Mrs Paphitis, Mr Vaughan and Mrs Bhogal for all the time spent with them.  Thank you to all the other staff members who worked in the various bubbles at different times over the past term.

You will have been sent several videos this morning including the Prize Giving, Celebration Assembly and the Leavers Service, all of which would have normally be held in school but I hope that you are able to enjoy these again in your own time.   Book prizes for Reception to Junior 5 will be sent home during the course of next week.  The final video will be one to enjoy when you have time to sit down with the family. It is a showcase of the music and drama talents combined into a Summer Concert video

The results of the Inter House Music competition have been decided these are detailed later in this edition.  Mrs Olden has announced that this will be an annual event as the number and standard of entries was very impressive indeed.  Well done to all who took part.  The results of the Inter House sports days are also available – thank you to the staff for organising these, particularly Mrs Vaughan, Mr Stedeford and Mr Vaughan.

In this morning’s assembly I announced the following Stars of the Week: Little Crackers Badgers, the whole of Reception, Joseph and Evie, all of Junior 2, David, Mitchell, George, Harry, Dexter, all of Junior 5, all of Junior 6.  Well done to the J1 pupils who were awarded their gold merit certificates (please refer to my assembly) and I also gave a Headteacher’s Award to Freddie in J5 for his positive approach to school life, always looking to give of his best whilst remaining cheerful at all times.

You will have by now received a letter regarding the proposed arrangements for September.  I appreciate there is a great deal of information contained within my communication but I wanted to reassure you that I will be considering every detail to ensure that children can return to school safely.  I will also contact you again prior to the start of term with further updates and an online calendar for Michaelmas term.  Reports will be available via My School Portal later in July and music reports will be sent separately.

For those parents who have booked holiday club, confirmation of arrangements will have been sent to you but if you have any questions please contact receptionist@crackleyhall.co.uk   I would like to remind you that we will be operating a strict opening time of 8:30am-4.00pm Monday to Thursday.  Children will be allocated bubbles for the duration of the time that they attend holiday club and reminded of the health and safety procedures in school.  They are welcome to bring their own electronic device into school but must please not bring in any soft toys; the same rules apply that were in force during the key worker school and other bubbles; washing hands, personal hygiene, washing of clothes before wearing them again and no sharing of equipment are most important.  The children must please bring in their own snacks, lunch and water bottles.

As the government is relaxing lockdown regulations, I would respectfully ask that all families who use the holiday club please bear in mind the safety of other families and of my staff.  If you are planning gatherings or are going out, please consider when it would be responsible to bring your child back into holiday club without putting others, who may still be shielding, at severe risk.  The virus is still very much amongst us and is growing again in certain areas not very far away from where we are.  A school in Nuneaton today announced two positive cases of Coronavirus amongst its staff.

I would like to say a special word of thanks to my senior leadership team of Mr Cottrill, Mrs Glen-Roots, Mr Lamprecht and Mrs Hill, along with my PA, Mrs Dyer and her team.  They have all helped to make such a difference during this challenging time.  I could continue with thanks and recounting memories of this year but I shall leave you to enjoy the start of the summer break and wish you and your families a wonderful time.  Thank you for all your support over the year.

Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing you again next term.

God bless,

Foundation Musicians And Vocalists Perform The Climb

Princethorpe College Director of Music, Gil Cowlishaw, and musicians from across the Foundation, including Crackley Hall School, have risen to the occasion with a fantastic finale to the end of the school year. In a third virtual concert, the Summer Sing And Play, the schools’ vocalists and musicians deliver an awe-inspiring performance of Miley Cyrus’ magical and moving ballard The Climb.

Together nearly 90 pupils and staff perform this beautiful song, the lyrics of which describe a difficult but rewarding journey, the challenge to keep the faith so appropriate for the term we have all just experienced.

I may not know it, but these are the moments that I'm going to remember most, just got to keep going.
And I’ve got to be strong, just keep pushing on!

There's always going be another mountain I'm always going to want to make it move,
Always going to be an uphill battle, sometimes I'm going to have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there, ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb!

We hope you agree that it just says it all. The wonder of virtually sharing music together has been an experience we will remember for years and years to come.

Gil Cowlishaw, explains, “Arranging the piece for the whole Foundation was a huge challenge, as I had to ensure that there were accessible parts for all the musicians across all three schools. The main body of the song has taken a lot more cobbling together, but it has definitely been worth the effort though, as the end result is, frankly, wonderful! There are pupils, from Reception right up to Upper Sixth, and staff representing all three schools including the Head of the Foundation, Ed Hester. The Climb will serve as a heart-warming and inspirational reminder of this singularly unusual term in the Foundation’s history.”

A huge thanks to Gil and the wonderful Foundation vocalists and musicians. What a wonderfully entertaining and inspirational end to the 2019-20 academic year!

Junior 6 Sports Afternoon

Junior 6 took part in a special Sports Day last Friday 26 June. The children spent the afternoon out on the sports field in glorious sunshine. Working in groups they threw themselves enthusiastically into the adapted races and had a whole lot of fun. They enjoyed a traditional sprint, long distance run and throw but also some different events such as the Quoit Race and Commando Crawl as well as individual challenges for Press Ups, Sit Ups and the Standing Long Jump.

All of the events were hotly contested and the final results are as follows:

House Results

  Girls Boys
1st Jupiter Jupiter
2nd Venus Saturn
3rd Saturn Mars
4th Mars Venus

Individual Results

  Girls Boys
1st Martha Summers Archie Robinson
2nd Emily Hutton Roshan Dougall
3rd Skye Rotherham Jimmy Loftus

At Crackley Hall sport is all about participation so everyone took, part in every event and everyone had fun.

A very special thanks to Mrs Vaughan and to all the staff and the grounds team, for organising and running the event.

It was a fabulous fun-filled sunny afternoon enjoyed by all!

A link to an album of photos from the event will be shared with parents.

Nursery News

Well, for many of us this is the end of term, and time for a rest and hopefully a bit of sun!  For others, it is the start of the summer nursery fun, where we get to explore other rooms, enjoy a quiet school, spend even more time outside, and make even more noise!  If you are in over the summer, keep an eye out for the painter – nursery is getting a bit of a face lift over the holiday, so that it looks all fresh and new for September.

Sadly we will lose all our lovely Badgers over the next few weeks, they will all start their new Reception classes in September, but we wish them well and hope they pop back to say hello maybe, to show off their lovely uniforms!  Do keep in touch, we hope you all have a great time with your new teachers.

If you are having a holiday, please stay safe, enjoy yourselves and we will be here when you come back.

Message from the Chair of the PTA

I would honestly like to say a huge thank you to each and everyone of you who has helped the PTA this last academic year, undeniably it has been one of the toughest years of our lives for many, however moving forward I sincerely hope that we can build on the strong foundation we already have and focus our mind sets onto a brighter, more positive future and bringing our wonderful school community back together in the Autumn.

Why not get involved, we have parents who work part-time or full-time. Any time you can give is welcome. Having a child at this school means you can join us. We can use any skills you have and you might learn new ones.

Hopefully, we will see many old and new faces at the AGM in September, so on behalf of the PTA I would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy summer.

Lucy x

And it’s goodbye from us……….

We are all very proud of our achievements within the Crackley Hall PTA over the past 14 years and can honestly say that it has been an honour to be part of such an amazing team effort.

We have been on an incredible journey of fun, laughter, camaraderie and friendship, whilst raising funds for our school community.   We cannot say it hasn’t been hard work too – catering, organising, printing, lifting, setting up, clearing down and everything in-between.  But it has been such a worthwhile thing to do.

Please do support your PTA at Crackley Hall during what will be a rather difficult year ahead in terms of holding social events and fundraising. We hope you have as much fun as we all have over the years and make some lifelong friends along the way.

With all best wishes

Sally, Wendy, Kara, Gill, Julie and Melissa.

Year 6 Leavers

For obvious reasons this year’s leaving festivities have been rather different for J6 but everyone has done their best to give them a good send off and for them to leave with some positive and happy memories. With this in mind Crackley Hall PTA has kindly donated funding for a leavers’ gift for all of J6. We hope their Crackley Hall water bottles will be a nice memento of their time at Crackley. One thing is for sure, 2020 will be a year they will never forget! The PTA would like to wish all of J6 the very best for their future as they go off to new pastures.

Although the J6 leavers’ celebrations were somewhat limited this year compared to other years, we couldn’t let them leave without a good send off. A huge thanks to Hayley from Private Party by Lilian Jay lillianivy.com for very kindly loaning us a red carpet to allow our superstars to leave the premises in style!

Fund Raising

During the summer holidays, please don’t forget that the PTA is registered with easyfundraising. So, although we’re unable to get together and hold fundraising events in person, we can continue to raise free funds, at no extra cost to you.

When you shop via the easyfundraising website or app, with over 4,100 of your favourite retailers, including John Lewis & Partners, eBay, Amazon and many more, you will raise FREE donations for the school.

If you’re already thinking about uniform for next term Nike and M&S are currently both offering 2% donations to the school when you purchase online. If you go walking or running and like listening to music, why not try listening to books using the Audible App.  Audible are currently giving a donation of £2 per each new account registered.

If you’re not already registered, please visit our easyfundraising page here:

This will really make a difference to our school! Thank you for your support.

Learning In Action

Online Learning Platforms

We have been delighted with the online learning platforms which have supported the children's learning during the Covid-19 crisis, and school closure. Thank you to all parents who have supported their child/ren in accessing all our online learning.

During the summer a significant level of maintenance is required in order to prepare online learning tools for the next academic year, many of which will be retained. Therefore please note the following:

Century Tech: Tasks will not be set by teaching staff, but pupils can continue to work through their recommended learning paths across the key subject areas of Maths and Science (J3 and J4) with the addition of English reading, SPAG, VR and Non-VR for pupils in J5 and J6.

Mathletics: Back end maintenance will be undertaken, but new classes and courses will not be allocated until staff return in September. This means pupils can continue to use Mathletics, if they so choose.

Cracking Comprehension: This is primarily an 'in school' teaching resource, so as such, should not be accessed during the summer holiday.

SeeSaw: All pupil accounts from this academic year will be archived early next week. New classes and journals will be set up at the start of the new academic year and parents will be advised when this is ready, and how the school will continue to use the platform once more normal routines return.

Lockdown Art

Mrs Holmes has been so impressed with the variety of art work and creativity of students during lockdown.  This video has been created showcasing some fantastic examples of art work by Juniors 2, 4 and 6.

So much fabulous creativity – from Native American Art to the 1930’s British artist LS Lowry plus, Junior 4 were challenged with making art out of unexpected, recycled treasures from the garage and the red bins! Amazing. Thank you to all the children who made a huge effort to keep their creative juices flowing.

We hope you enjoy the video:

House Music Competition

There are so many talented musicians at Crackley, so much so that we see and share their music every day. Lockdown, however, has prevented the children from sharing their music, so it was decided to have our first House Music and Drama competition. The response was overwhelming with over 70 music entries from children in Reception to J6.

The winners and runners up are listed below but everyone collected 3 house points for taking part. Trophies are in the process of being awarded to the winners and the competition will now become an annual event in school.

A varied selection of singers, musicians and performers have been chosen for our first Virtual Concert. Please do watch it as there are so many exciting and interesting performances.

Junior 6 Classes

We have had an amazing final week in Junior 6 and hopefully made lots of lasting memories!

Two bubbles had spent time in the Forest School area exploring the environment, building dens and making swings.  It was brilliant seeing the children problem solve, adjust their ideas when they didn’t work and working together as a team.  The woods came alive with laughter and the buzz of friendship!

It was with great excitement that the children received their Leavers’ Hoodies on Wednesday and within seconds the playground was filled with the brightly coloured garments adorned with some interesting nicknames!  Make sure you’ve found your name on the back!  We then recorded a version of our Leavers’ Assembly on the top lawn with some impromptu a Capella singing!  We will make sure that you all receive this – it is wonderful and bought a tear to some eyes!

Thursday saw us don our 70s gear for a disco themed party day.  We had sequins, wigs, sunglasses, flares, collars and much dancing and serious disco moves appearing!  Enjoy our rendition of Abba’s Dancing Queen and spot the disco divas!  The afternoon saw us eating pizza and cookies – thanks to all those involved in enabling this to happen. Dancing Queen

Junior 6, it is with real sadness that we say goodbye to you.  It has been a pleasure teaching you and watching you blossom into the wonderful individuals that we see before us today.  You have been a real part of history, as we have lived the challenges of recent months and your strength, resilience and good humour throughout are a true testament of your character and embodiment of our Crackley spirit.  Good luck in everything you do and keep making the most of each and every opportunity that comes your way!  We will miss you.

Junior 5 Classes

This week has been most exciting in Junior 5, as most of the children have been in school for the final two days of the year. It has been wonderful being with each other ‘in the flesh’, catching up with each other and generally just being smiley! It is something that we will treasure as we go into the summer holidays.

Wednesday morning was our virtual sports day and our J5s certainly gave it their all. Wednesday afternoon, the children got to meet their new Form teachers as they move into their final year at Crackley – they will be very well looked after by Mrs Horan and Mrs Vaughan. We warmly, welcome Rafferty to J6 too!

Congratulations to silver and gold award winners this week. Maria and Alyx received their silver awards and Anabel was awarded gold.

Thomas in J5R was again invited to represent Warwickshire as a member of their Junior’s chess team and took part in his first ever international chess tournament on Tuesday 23 June: The “Olympic Day Run Tournament Team Battle”.

The competition of 7 teams was exceptionally challenging and his team won a well-deserved 3rd place (243 points) against the Russian Saint Petersburg Izmailovsky Chess Club, 1st place (310 points), and the Latvian, LATVIA2020 team, 2nd place (247 points).

Thomas also took part in the The English Symphony Orchestra’s virtual concert recording of Hans Zimmer’s Earth that can be viewed on YouTube here  You Tube Link

We are both very much looking forward to teaching our new J5’s and it was fabulous to meet them and see how cheerful and enthusiastic they all are.

We would just like to say that we have thoroughly enjoyed our J5 children’s company this year – they have been awesome and have coped with the pressures of home schooling extremely well. We will miss them so much but feel privileged that we can be a part of their lives for a further year as they move up to Junior 6. We will also miss two of our J5 pupils who are leaving Crackley this year and wish them every happiness and success for their future.

Happy summer holiday to you all and stay safe!

Mrs Lammas, Mrs Roberts and Mr Vaughan.

Junior 4 Classes

During the PSHCE lesson in our final week, pupils in Junior 4 reflected on the year and along with all the difficulties and differences it was lovely to hear so many wonderful, positive comments. Many recalled the exciting trip to Kingswood and sharing dorms or whizzing down the Wire! Others remembered sporting fixtures and particularly hard matches they had eventually won! Pupils in Junior 4 are extremely creative and love to doodle, make models and build. At home they cooked exciting recipes for their families, made houses, theatres and shops out of cardboard boxes and even made movies. They have continued to keep busy and it has been lovely to share this with you all.

Junior 4 have been making a Squirrel Challenge in Science. The mischievous squirrels at Crackley Hall are always raiding our bins so Mrs Vaughan challenged us to come up with a better idea for them to find their nourishment. We had to think of a suitable location in the school grounds, design an obstacle course that could actually be built and think of what the construction challenges may be too. Take a look at our designs!

Junior 4 have been making their own board games based on their favourite book! There has been a lot of planning involved, first finding out about positive and negative events that happened to the hero or heroine of their book. Then the children have had to draw or find pictures for their games. Some are now finished. Please take a look!

Congratulations to Alex, Sid, Isabella, Dillon and Harry who all received their Silver Award.

Junior 3 Classes

What a week to remember Junior 3. We were so happy to see so many of you in school earlier this week and to be reunited with our classmates after such a long time. Well done for all your efforts with social distancing whilst in school – it is tricky to get used to a new way of doing things and you coped beautifully. Superb efforts on Wednesday and we are now all looking forward to finding out the winners of the first ever virtual sports day!

You have all done so well on your home-learning journey and we are immensely proud of each and every one of you.

Have a wonderful summer.

Highlights from 3V:

Seeing you all in school! Our time in the forest school area was particularly enjoyable and we were blessed not to have rain. A huge thank you for the carline surprise on Tuesday and what a treat to be able to see Mrs Blyth too.

Highlights from J3S:

It was so lovely to see you all back at school, where you should be. Forest school was super fun and you were then given a surprise, when we bumped into Mrs Duigan having a picnic on the sports field! On Thursday, you woke up Mr Stedeford, after he turned up to form time and English, in his pyjamas; Grace proving the most effective alarm clock! Lots of you came dressed up in wonderful outfits from superheroes, to cool dudes and football fans. Thank you for making our last week in J3 so much fun, full of giggles and memories we will all cherish for a very long time.

Mathletes for J3 are:

 Junior 3V: The whole class.

Junior 3S: The whole class.

Junior 2 Classes

Junior 2 have been working really hard this week and not only with the academics but with sporting activities as well. Boiled eggs tumbled, brooms were jumped over, legs, arms and bodies flew over lawns, paths and gardens as the children enjoyed our first virtual sports day. Great fun had by all thank you to Mr Stedeford for a really inventive programme.

In the virtual classroom we were so excited to meet our new teachers for next year and spent time getting to know them a little as well as letting them know a little about us. Can it be that time already?

Academic work continued with pupils reminding themselves about symmetry and shape. Quizzes were completed, mini autobiographies created and there was even a whistle-stop tour around Asia!

Our teachers would like to say thank you for all the hard work we have done and all the fun times we have had. Happy holidays everyone, whatever that may look like. See you in Junior 3.

Matheletes of the week are Issey and Ellie

Junior 1 Class

In the last week of term Junior 1 have been as busy as ever.

They have looked closely at mini beasts in both science and English, recording facts about them, learning how they are similar and different and what they really look like.

In geography we finished the year off by matching suitcases to their destinations and dressing up in hot or cold weather clothes to show how to dress appropriately depending on the weather.

History saw us finish our Toys topic, showing what we have learned about old toys and how they have changed over time.

We also had time for some races in school and held a mini house competition with different activities to complete to help celebrate the end of the year.

It’s been a fantastic year in Junior 1 and after a lovely summer holiday they will be raring to go in Junior 2!

Mathlete of the week was Josh

Gold Awards were presented to Harrision, Lexi Jean, Mahnoor, Shuvan, Jude, Charlie and Jacob.

Reception Classes

Our final week in Reception has been another busy and productive one for the children at school and the home learners. The children embraced the topic of ‘Pets’ and discovered that looking after a pet, whether it’s a gerbil, rabbit, cat, dog, budgie or even an iguana, takes a lot of commitment! Exercise, daily food and fresh water are only a few of the things that many pets need – and of course, plenty of love.

Maths saw us investigating ordinal numbers and putting a set of objects into positions such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd - all the way up to 10th position. We realised that ordinal numbers are everywhere, from the date we write in our books, to the positions in a race! Can you spot any ordinal numbers around you?

We can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by, especially over the past few months. Well done Reception, you have worked so hard and we can’t wait to see you continue to shine in J1!

Silver certificates have been awarded to Thea, Sophia and Oscar.  Well done to you!

Little Crackers

Little Crackers Sporting Fun

There was plenty of excitement at Little Crackers Nursery on Tuesday as the children and staff all enjoyed some socially distanced sporting fun.

The pre-school children took part in lots of different races specially adapted for all our little ones. They included a bat and beanbag challenge and a balance a beanbag on your head race, as well as everyone's favourite the ready steady go running race.

The event was held outside and the children ran in their groups to ensure everyone remained safe. The staff all looked the part too, wearing their bright and colourful new Little Crackers T-shirts.

Early Years Teacher, Lisa O’Carroll Bailey said, “The children were excited and all enjoyed racing around the playground. We were delighted with their enthusiasm and I would like to say a huge well done to them all.”
